I read much of this in your portfolio, but I like the presentation here just as much. Now I'm wondering what MY kids would do in a cemetar...
very cool
Kewl I have some great pics from New Ortleans and Chicago I have to get online too...
unfortunately as our 'family graveyard' (I should pick out a plot when I visit somewhere in a dark lil courner under a tree) is in scotland I don't really get to visit my ancestors ;)
hopeing that will change this year.. trying to plan for a trip..fortunately I don't think I'll need to worry about paying for a hotel.. family is good for something after all *dose the happy exploitation dance*
..oh.. I should add the australians (in some areas) have taken to basically bury the dead standing up to take up less space and allow more plots to be used in a graveyard
Great photo's and article. ~10~
interesting...i hate this time of the year, but then again,i hate every time of the year..:))
good pice.
Fantastic read! I'll probably end up reading it again on halloween. I'm one f those that take fansy to such elaborate gravestones and statues.
very nice i love cemetaries so much i feel at home when im in one.
I wonder if there's any correlation between taphophiles and necrophiles.
Seriously though, is philia really the word people should be using for this propensity? The way you described it is having an affinity for the dead and their accoutrements. Psychologically, the philia denotes neurotic behavior generally with some erotic fixation. I don't know much about vulgar diction, but I don't believe you had in mind that technical implication. I suppose it's another example of how scientific cant becomes generalized in meaning when widely adopted. Of course, the scientific meaning was selected from the broader Greek words taphos and philos (grave and love), so it certainly is included in the meaning of the etymology. By the same token a pedophile is also not necessarily a pervert. Interesting connotations. Anway, enough of my philosophical/linguistic ravings.
