I haven't been back to Boston since...
I brought my sister here in what?
2016? Seven years?
Shortly after her dad, my step dad, died. It was a brief there and home to Texas.
I honestly never really thought I would even venture back that way.
Yet, here I am. In just over a month.
It's going to be so much cooler there.
I'll be able to wear my hoodies again.
Positivity.
This year has been a doozy.
It's been determined that my youngest and I will be returning to Boston to care for my mother after her surgery in early October.
She's having spinal surgery.
She has the current diagnosis:
Myeloradiculopathy
Gait instability
Significant spinal stenosis at C3-4 & C5-6
Atrophy
Spinal cord signal changes behind C3-4
Multilevel foraminal stenosis from C3-7 bilaterally
Disc bulge and T2 STIR signal changes
Radiculopathy and neurological decline
Surgery is going to be at the anterior C3- C7 anterior cervical discectomy and fusion, as well as posterior decompression and fusion from C3-T1. They are also placing bone in her neck and back, in order to help fuse together what needs to be fused.
Her health isn't the best, having diabetes and asthma.
There isn't really anyone *there* that I/we can trust with aiding her in recovery. So we will be going to help her, while my husband and son stay behind (as he has school, football, band and my husband has work) and since my school work is online, I can do that there when they sleep.
I am around, but more just reclusive.
Lots going on, obviously.
Could be a month. Could be two. Dunno how long her recovery is.
COMMENTS
Her 'covery is going to take some time. It's gunna be a damn hard road, but you got this. 🖤
And why you are The Ducky, stronger then most. Cross my fingers this surgery goes well, and the recovery not too long.
Sending you positive thoughts and healing energy
You're really going to have your hands full. Please make sure to take care of yourself, as well.
You have those of us who love you, support you and will always be around when you need it. Even when you don't need it, I will be there. I will be shankin' the ones that need it for you. Because.. ride or die, bitch! That's what we wives do. 🖤

Hey, I have one black friend. I can't be racist.
.... BOB does not count.
Listen, it does. I call him J-ron. >:]
Funny I think you are ignorant for such opinions as I've lived in cells with minorities in prison because I wasn't racist and hooked up in a gang. You ever experience such trials? But I'm at peace with what I believe...for now. Probably be messed up in my next life till this balance is reached again.
Well, I think you're an asshole. So, I guess tomato-tomahto. Learn sarcasm.
Funny how you immediately took this entry as being towards you, when I hadn't mentioned one thing about you.
Nor did I mention anything regarding race. A joking comment was made to which I replied jokingly.
My, my... I wonder why you seem to think this entry was even pointed at your direction. Guilty conscience, much?
As for your prison time... Sure. Claim that's why you "lived in cells with minorities". Like you get a choice. 🙄
Take your shit elsewhere.
Guilty conscious** fucking autocorrect
O.o. well that fucking went off track.
Lmao to each there own keep going with being happy life is about happiness not bitterness.
So glad we have a new pest control company coming out today.
I'm tired of dealing with the paper wasps, mud daubers, carpenter bees, mosquitos, spiders, and the fire ants.
The weather has been insane down here in Satan's Loincloth, so the flying critters and the spiders are fucking thriving.
It seems no matter how often we are power cleaning the outside, there are so many spider webs and spiders now that it looks like a scene from the movie Arachnophobia.
For instance:
Yesterday we cleaned all the spider webs off the eaves of the house as well as the carport and the trees from where we could reach.
This morning they're not only back, but twice as many. Em yelled that the end was near this morning when leaving for school because he walked face first into a web on the porch and spazzed out because of it. (I don't blame him, I would have, too.)
Then the hornets and paper wasps ... They're everywhere. Fucking everywhere. I've knocked down and cleaned so many areas that had the beginning of their hives as well as used products to remove pheromones so they fuck off, but it's been worthless.
Then the carpenter bees. Sweet Jesus they're burrowing into wood wherever they can. No matter what we do, they keep coming back.
The fire ants are out of control in my front yard. We've done every single pest control we can from the stores to no avail.
The skeeters are also insane. Doesn't help that I think we have a neighbor who has standing water in his yard as they come back no matter what we do.
So the pest guys are coming this afternoon to try and help. They are also doing preventative rodent and termite treatments because there are three houses being built/renovated and we live by farm land and lakes so just in case ... Cause termites suck and while I haven't seen any rodents (yay for cats!) I'd rather be safe than sorry.
Cause FML I hate flying and sticky critters who are trying to overrun our property.
COMMENTS
Yes, I hate them too. We have TruGreen to do our lawn and pests, but I am not terribly happy with them. Plus, they are a freaking fortune. Do you have an overgrowth of Poison Ivy? It is insane here and my neighbors just ignore it. I spend half of my life trying to kill Poison Ivy on their property that grows through my fence. Ugh.
*adds to reasons to move out of TX*
Monday through Friday my alarms are set for 0500.
Without fail, and regardless of the time frame I do actually fall asleep at, my internal alarms wake me at 0440.
Lette napped a long time yesterday, which was expected as we did a lot of outdoor stuff as it was decent outside. She didn't actually fall asleep until about 0230 and I didn't fall asleep until about 0315.
Which means she will be up by 0900 if she decides to sleep in. That child rarely ever likes sleeping in and you can hear her across the house exclaiming "Good morning Mr. Sun! You up and I up too!". Heh. Kids. 🖤
Em wakes at 0600. Bus is at 0720. Class starts at 0755. He is the second to last stop on the bus before the school drop off, as we are the "farthest route" from the middle school.
Practice and football has been good for him. He's definitely sleeping better and is in better spirits. His friends group has also expanded and he's thriving. To think that just three years ago he was undergoing cancer treatments... feels like a decade ago. You can't even tell he had it. He's actually thriving. It takes a lot of stress off me seeing the turnaround in his emotional and mental state just one week into school.
This is great.
It's starting to help ease up on my own anxiety as my anxiety is centered around the kids mostly. Hell, I may even be able to drop the dosage of my anxiety meds over the next few months. I'll discuss all that with my doc at my next iron level checking appointment.
:)

Happy life is easing up on you.
im happy that anciety is starting to get better
Gonna go pick up my son's cleats and get my daughter a football because now she wants to be able to "practice" with him.
Heh.
At least at practice there are siblings her age she can toss the ball around with. They have practice every Monday through Friday and he's loving it. He's also finally sleeping so much better now that his iron is under control and he's more active. The insomnia isn't anywhere near where it has been over the years. That is a such a great thing.
He told me yesterday that he's finally feeling "normal" after chemotherapy. That he doesn't feel like the "sick kid" anymore.
That's small blessings there.

Thank you Jesus! Your boy so deserves to feel this way. His baby sister will "help" me lots! lol
Yeah!!! Two strong beautiful children. 😍

Hahaha... That is Nightgame, always with the happyness.
Way to go! Proud of him! And you best be ready to either freeze, or burn up watching those games.
I'm ready!!!
🏈🦁
WOOT WOOT! Congrats!
Congratulations!
LMFAO
You really are one dense individual.
And using dense is being kind.
But please, continue how you were wronged, when the whole reason (as literally spelled out below) was because you couldn't follow simple directions that you agreed to.
🤷🏼♀️
Then you had a meltdown over thinking I said something I didn't - again posted below for you to reread and perhaps comprehend- and went all ape shit with the entries.
But I'm the special snowflake and "psycho" (btw is how it is spelled).
Yeah.
Ok.
Whatevssss

I have many of those receipts as well. Things said are often captured before the inevitable purge.
I'm sorry it all went to shit the way it did. We had all hoped things would turn out differently, but here we are.

What did I possibly do? wrong here I was gone all night with my ex?
huh sorry was what was that I thought you said you could come along with the daughter,
Rather than waiting to directly talk to me, you went on a tirade. There was a reason you were blinded instead of kicked, as I mentioned in the response to your message.
But seeing as it always has to spiral with you two, I'll respond to both:
You agreed to cease with the drama in journals, as per my House rules- which is being sent to you in a message so you can see that you did, in fact, agree to that.
You, however did not do so.
So rather than kicking or outwardly trading you, I blinded you until you were online and we would talk about it.
But instead, you went to the journals and cried about it.
So now you're in Purgatory, too.
Zeta, this has nothing to do with you, so hush.
Damn it...only half the picture because other half deleted. But not my Ducky. She leaves her freaking footprint, and proud of it.

starts to fill one out but then...oh, yeah. :) First place I chewed a hole in when I came back.

Uhh.. that does NOT say anything close to 'Fuck you for leaving my House'. Wow. Just WOW!
Ahhhh hahahahah I know, you know, everyone but one person seems to know...
Wow. How long did it take her? I know she wasn't there that long.
Since July 18th. Lol
COMMENTS
It was a lack of respect. You made an arrangement and stuck your neck out. All it would have took was a simple message to let you know. It didn't happen.
Yep, and the inability to follow simple instructions. Oh well, lesson learned.
How hard is it to follow simple rules? It is not like you require a lot. *Shakes my head*
I can honestly say that today was a fucking doozy.
Never in a million years would I have thought I would need to sign consent forms for a middle schooler to have permission to be administered Narcan in the event of an accidental overdose. Then I looked into why and WTF.
Kids are sharing "spiked candies" and doing stupid shit like that. Sometimes without even telling the other party it's drugs. Not only is there an opioid crisis in this county but fucking meth and heroin busts are happening to high schoolers?! In fact a kid OD last year on the high school campus grounds from it. During school hours. DURING. How. The. Fuck...
I literally had a full blown panic attack from the amount of shit thrown in my direction today regarding the drug issues within this county. I knew it was an issue within the country as a whole. I grew up in Boston, opioids are one of the worst drugs people are strung out on up there next to heroin. Four years we've lived in this county and not once have I heard about this shit. But it makes sense now, they keep it out of the main news sources. They want to promote different aspects of the town not the problems.
Fuck that noise. Once my mortgage is paid in full, we are moving. Yeah, yeah I know that it's an issue everywhere. But holy shit... Twelve, thirteen, fourteen year olds?! That's fucking nuts to me.
This country is going to shit.

Agree. Kid's life is nothing like ours. The big scandal in my time in high school was a pregnancy.
Been a decade since I got to do that.

Thank you for getting me,

I got a member yesterday. Was going to ask if you wanted him, one of your students
You're welcome, @Slayer555. One of my AHM helped! ;)
Which member, Rat? I didn't think anyone else in my Mentorship was leveled yet.
Ohhh I figured out who ya meant.
He's welcomed to come over if he wants. :)
Nah, I will keep him unless he ask. I just didn't want him to be put someplace else. You know what I mean. :)
Wait.
Waitttttt.
Am I about to have two school aged children?!
Middle school and EE?
Why are they growing up so fast?!
When did this happen?
How the hell did the summer fly so quickly that I have less than a week left with them before they both venture off to academic adventures?!
I'm at a loss for words.
So much to write.
I took the day off the site yesterday. I ended up getting a bit sick from the heat and sun (damn sun allergy) to the point I just pretty much relaxed with the kiddos and made a list of different breads and cheeses we want to attempt to make from scratch. Going from El Paso which was dry heat, to Ruidoso, NM where it was cool, back to Northern Texas where there is an excessive heat warning and intense humidity definitely affected my reaction to how the sun and heat got to me.
I will be responding to messages and I will be updating who and what needs to be updated (IYKYK).
Message me if you need to, as always I'll respond when I get a chance.

Drags in a bag of ice, for your kiddy pool.
Hope you are feeling better.
Texas, get yer shit together.
I've had a personal relationship with death since an early age. As a toddler, we escaped a house fire (thanks to my loving dog Max, may you RIP you beautifully, golden and fluffy golden retriever, for saving my life and alerting the family to the danger), I witnessed a decapitation at the age of six during a really bad rain storm- The car in front of us was struck by downed electrical wires that were struck by lightening and the wires severed the head of the driver and the windshield of the car. I remember sitting in the back seat, in the middle, watching through the Volkswagen windshield as there was a bright blast, the car in front of us swerving all over, and then a horribly loud crashing sound and seeing something kind of bounce and roll around in the rain in front of the car, and my mom gasping and saying "is that a fucking head?!". I lost my beloved grandmother when I was nine, witnessed a neighbor be shot in the head when I was ten, stumbled across a fatal overdose when walking home from school when I was eleven... let's just say I had attended more funerals than birthday parties before I was even eighteen.
I have witnessed horrendous funerals- where the funeral directors butchered the process- making the deceased look worse than they did coming in there, or forgetting to do something as mandatory as a fucking embalming (that one is still recent so it still pisses me off), didn't follow the families wishes (to the best of their abilities), to seeing that they were more for the "profit" than the "service" of the job.
I want to be a mortician for the service of the job, not the monetary gain that can accompany it.
Morticians, Embalmers, Funeral Directors, and Undertakers are called "Last Responders". They respond at the last chapter of a person's life. They are never considered as essential as medical teams and EMS because those they serve are the deceased and the families they leave behind. They are the ones who care for the deceased. Cleansing them, dressing them, preparing them for the families to have their final goodbye with. In some instances, those who cross a Mortician's table have never known kindness or had suffered for a long time prior to their demise. The Mortician would be the last person to show great care and respect to the deceased. To honor them as they were and prepare them for their final resting place. To be the listening ear to a grieving family, the branch that connects them with help navigating the world without their beloved.
In the days of Socrates, Plato, and Alexander the Great, it was common for women to play a significant role in preparing a body for burial and this continued for centuries. Women were looked on to care for the deceased, as they were for newborns, as it is considered that women have the empathy and nurturing nature that (most) men do not possess in order to care for the deceased. Men only really dominated the field around the Civil War when it became profitable. Even to this day, according to the ABFSE (American Board of Funeral Service Education) show that statistically, over 72% of graduating students from FS are female.
Death doesn't scare me. I find a familiarity with it, a sense of finalization that accompanies the role of a mortician, and the compassion to the life that once was. It is a way to show honor to those who pass, giving acknowledgement to their presence that was in this world, and a thank you for their contribution to the world they depart from. It is the final touches on their legacies and the ability to aid those who are left behind in their wake, find a new path and/or purpose after they are gone.
I want to help families honor the legacies of their loved ones while ensuring that the deceased are treated with respect, care, and dignity and the families can grieve without fear of worry.
