Katherine von Drachenberg aka Kat Von D, born in March 1982, is an american tattoo artist (a freakin amazing artist may i add)
a model and a television personality, appareaing in the tv show LA ink and Miami ink. Her portrait work is phenominal.
She was born in Mexico, and has two siblings Karoline and Michael, who have both also appeared in the tv series LA ink, my favouritewas when they suprised michael, by tattooing his face onto Karolines arm.
Kat is classically trained in the piano. She begun this at the age of 4 years old.
She started off working at ink miami when the main artist broke his elbow and could not tattoo, so she helped out, before long she had her own show LA ink and her tattoo shop, high voltage tattoo in Hollywood CA.
She gained the guiness world record for a 24 hour straight tattooing session, in which she completed 400 tattoos, each tattoo was a logo, for the cityof LA in Kats own design, with its own unique number under (so she could also keep track on how many she had completed) Watching this episode was alsoalot of fun, her hand was acheing but she kept on going. She wanted more than anything self gratification that she could do something if she tried.All proceeds for this went to the childrens-blindness charity vitamin angels.
After 4 seasons of LA ink Kat decided he did not want to continune La Ink any longer so in september 2011 the show was finalised
.Her first book 'high voltage tattoo' a compliation of her artwork and tattooos went to number 6 on the top seller list for the new york times.She described the book as "not an autobiography, you know, 'cause I'm too young to do that. But this is just kind of like a picture-driven outline of my career as an artist. So, you see everything from my drawings when I was six to tattoos that have never before been seen."
Her second book 'The Tattoo Chronicles' is a illustrated diary following a year in the life of Kat, this went to number 3 in the new tork time
s.Kat has her own beautiful look when it comes to make up, her eye make up in particular is a talking point of Kat, so she created her own make up line for sephora, and also a fragrance line :).
Kat is the sole creator of the tattoo convention MusInk Tattoo Convention and Music Festival, which is an all ages tattoo, art and music festival in SC.
She opened up the art gallery Boutique Wonderland Next door to her tattoo shop high voltage tattoo. Which pushed her into launching her very own clothing lineKVD LA.
Kat married fellow tattoo artist Olver Peck in 2003, by august 2007 they were seperated and divorced the same year. She dated Nikki Sixx the bassist from Motley Crue, followed bywest coast choppers ceo and reality star Jesse James.They have a on and off engagement.
Kat has many band tattoos she tattooed emblems on herself of the bands, HIM, Misfits, Turbonegro, zz top, Guns n Roses, AC/DC, Slayer, Mike got spiked and Slutallica, a modified metallica logo.
Kat appeared in a couple of music videos, Hims killing loneliness and alkaline trios help me.
She is hugely inspired by a 50s tv horror hostess from the film plan 9 from outer space 'Vampira'
Shes tattooed hundreds of stars, but Kats favourite person to tattoo on, is her best friend Bam Magera.
