I have to say that your view would be good if you lived completely off the grid with no need of others to help you. If you have or ever will need another to help you live in some way then you need altruism. You need to be able to humble yourself if not in mind then in action. The act of asking for help is an act of humility. Admitting not just to one's self that you can not do it on your own but to others as well. That is not weak it is strength, for there is strength in numbers and without compromise you will eventually end up with no one to turn to when you are in need. Morality is a common set of ideals that it is best to emulate, for the sake of getting along with your fellow man. This set of morals is subject to change as the minds of the majority do. Honor is given to those that defend, uphold, and/or represent these ideals, and usually under great opposition.
