Nightlight

You put your head down as you lay alone in your bed, sleeping soundly.

I wish to be a nightlight to watch over you, staring at you quietly from the corner.

My little glow illuminating as much as it can, trying to reach you.

But I admire the darkness, and desire to be it, more than the light.

To be one with the darkness, the darkness would be fused with my body.

And to be it, is allowing my body to descend upon yours.

Then to embrace you gently, and sleep along with you through the night,

Until sunrise comes.

I fade away into the shadows, only catching a final glimpse of you before I vanish,

But to watch you smile when I disappear, is to know, I’ve done my job.

The tragedy of being the darkness, is to extinguish with the break of daylight

Till another nightfall, Where I’m able to come out once again.

But envying the darkness I still wish to remain the nightlight.

That way, I will never lose sight of you.
