Lexington, KY - Drunk folks usually try to avoid entanglements with the police. But one Lexington man needed a little help from law enforcement when he got so drunk he couldn't get out of a bar.
Police say they received a 911 call around 4:30 p.m. Thursday. When officers arrived at Todd's Karaoke Bar on Lane Allen Road, they found Todd Fitzwater, 45, inside. The bar was closed at the time. Police say Fitzwater told them that he passed out there the night before, woke up sometime Thursday and continued to drink. He called 911 because he was too drunk to let himself out.
"Between our communications folks and us sat here tapping on the door we literally had to, by the sound of our tapping on the door, entice him to come to the door so he could let us in to help him," police Sgt. Dean Casey said.
Todd Johnson, the bar's owner, says Fitzwater is a regular customer who lives nearby. He says he stayed with Johnson until 7:30 a.m. Thursday and then left, assuming Fitzwater would let himself out and go home.
