My mother went today to get the stitches removed from the back of her hand. The cancer is out, and we move forward to the two other spots on her skin. One on her forehead, one at her elbow. We are looking at three more trips, two weeks apart.

Next is the face one, then back for those stitches to be removed at the same time of the elbow one. Then last visit for those stitches out.

While it might not be such a big issues- when you are 84, weak, and can't walk so you are in a wheelchair and it is a issue just getting you dress for these Dr. visits- it is hard on my mother.

But she has breast cancer, lost one to it, when she was in her 60's. I was in my 20's. She beat it then, and she will now.

THAT is what having cancer is like, and she is one of the lucky ones.

Today marks a new step in my life. For the last few weeks I have worked for someone other then myself, part time. I give a few hours a few nights a week, and try for one day on the weekend. Good thing is the person I am working for understands when I am unable to come play, try and teach him something.

Who am I talking about? Cat’s nephew is 7 years old and has autism. If you would of asked me, and still to this day, to work around kids- I would of said “Oh hell to the big No” I am not a fan of kids. And still not a fan.

But he is different. One- I love the family, been part of his life since he was born. Two- I want to help him. I want him to have as much of a normal life as he can and he is one smart boy.

His mother asked me if I would want to help with his care, to take on helping him learn a few things that the local government agency was willing to have someone come in and help him with. I would be working for him, he is my boss.

While I was kind of worried about if I would have the patience to deal with him, I have come to understand just how good a boy he is. Yes he still has a few yelling fits, not willing some night to do his lesson, but more often then not he is willing to learn, or at least try.

Make me feel good, knowing I am helping him. I always did try to listen, to play with him, willing to get him snacks and things. And they know I would never harm the child, so we both win. He gets a step toward being a normal child, we get to spend time together, and I still get my time with Cat and her family.

His mother told me tonight, as well as Cat, that the few days a week I spend with him on his lessons that they could tell the difference. That made feel proud, super glad I am helping this special little boy.

Today I got my first check and it was my first that did not have my own last name on it. 45 years- but I did it. *little dance* I am working for someone other then myself. :D

Even if the money went away, the program cut, I would still help him as much as I am now. It feels good to help someone, to see that your time and effort makes a difference in a life. Must be what Birdy feels in her job, what Joli writes of.

I am really honored that Cat and her family asked me, and that they put their trust in me to help.

:)

In the freaking middle of adding the totals up on the page, phone rings. I swear I will never get the taxes done... grrrr.

"muffle muffle...out of Ohio..muffle muffle"

"Sorry sir, we don't move across the state line anymore."

This is about the time he got the cob out of his mouth and spoke so I could understand him.

"Who said anything about the state line?"

"You said you had to move items out of Ohio, correct?"

"No. I said I was moving out of an old house."

O.o

Give him the local rate, he said thanks... and that is it.

Now to try and add this freaking column of numbers up for the fifth time.....

Home safe, storms made the trip fun. I got about a little over a hour sleep, seems the two hours I had half of it was spent waking up to make sure I didn't oversleep. lol

Got home around 7:40 am ... and too tried to sleep. So what do I do? Vac, dusted, cleaned both bathrooms and started the laundry, got the sheets and blanket off the bed to wash before the cold weather comes in.

As no jobs today, and I know my head is in no shape to do the taxes, I had planed with my sister for me to sleep in this morning. Guess I might as well go to work, got some bills to pay.

After food. Of course when my belly gets full, I might sleep. Hmmm.. there is a flaw there. lol

Tried to get as much as I could done today on the taxes. Got the Rentals, Moving all posted and ready to spend a few hours adding up, total out and balance. Even got a start on the 1099's, one call needed to the bank with a few questions.

Even got my personal information ready.

Got one or two phone calls to make, list and update the loans one company makes to another- get those balanced out, help my sister with getting the payroll taxes info in order.... another good two days of work and I will have it to the CPA. Just in time for him to file an extension.

:)

But I will have them off my hands as I hope we stay busy this year at work.

Now to try and get a nap in.

UPS man is so cute. He brought in my sister's new computer into the office. Her 'work' laptop is about ten years old and in bad shape. It goes blue screen more then not when I try to use it. She, herself, got a notebook. So small you can't even read it. But it was only like $300.00.

She has been wanting a new laptop for a few years, been looking around for one. This weekend QVC has a special value HP. She called Cat, who is the shopper in our group, and was told it was a good buy. So she purchased it, seeing as I have some money on the side coming in to help with the bills now. I should (*(the company)) be paying for it as she will use it for work some, but ... *sigh* She has to use mine at work, all we can do about it.

So the UPS man jokes with me after I told him she has been looking for it to come "Tell her I had it for a few days, just like making her wait." Joking, I picked up the phone and said I was going to call her right now, tell her. He laughed, saying "Noooo... she will egg me going out the drive way."

Haha.. he is so right. ;) Right after trashing the UPS race car driver and team.

Right after got a special visit from NCOIC Quality Assurance team with the goverment. O.o First for that. Seems the local base wanted to bring them out to the warehouses, meet some of the movers, talk about the problems we have been having.

"We" as in all movers.

I asked who else they visit and got a sly "You are the only one. The base seems to think you would express your concerns the best."

Oh you got that right... for the last half hour. Funny thing about not being paid by them anymore- not willing to bite my tongue as much.

So when they asked about why the the area had such demands for shuttles *from big trucks to smaller ones* and long carries, I explained they needed to go up into the eastern part of the state, into VA. Then ask that question again, why tractor trailers are unable to get into these places. See- they cut out the money to pay those extras, and are running into problems in some areas. Uh...duh.

The driver of the group, who is from my area, is going to take them back the 'old way' to the base, aka- the back roads. They will see what we are talking about then.

So that was ... interesting. When they asked how long we been in business I told them since 1953. And I have been doing it all my life. One of the men looked at me and said "Taking into account your age of...?" "What? You ain't going to guess?" That got a laugh. "I am married- I know better." So 45 year, started part time at 14, full time at 17. 28 years.

They listened, took notes on what I find as the flaws of the storage section of the new system. Then they thanked me and told me to have a good day.

At least I had my say. And I will never get these taxes done. lol

Paperwork hell, bury me in it. You would think with as slow we have been, and me doing the books for all of them, I would do a better job. lol

Got a courier run tonight. :D Pickup at 11:30pm, drive a hour, sleep for three, up and to Knoxville TN airport before 6:00 am. Yeah!

While they mess with my sleep, they pay well. Here is to having the electric bill paid early for next month.

Seems the town next to us has gone wet- all the way. Not just out of restaurants but sales. We always joked we was going to open up a store if it pasted in a old church we own.

Yes we own a church.... strange I know.

Hmmm... we just need a catchy line to sale the church liquor store. We would have a drive in..

Hells Bells Liquors.

*Yes- we still have the bells in the church*

Pew's awaiting... at the liquor store!"

To bad my head hurts still, I could come up with some good ones.

Kidding aside- it would be cool to do a restaurant in the old church, keep the theme.

Yesterday we had a snow day at work, so I stayed home. Not that we had work anyway.

Sis calls me around noon and tells me she has a Dr. who wants a estimate moving from a town 100 miles away to our town. Did not have a lot, a bedroom suite and a few things. Could I call him? Sure- but all the rates, prices are in the office. I can call him in the morning. She said that was ok, told him I was home sick and it might be in the morning.

So of course I worried about it all night, and was down here early to hit him first thing. Only to be stop by the plumber who needed me to go with him to let him into a rental, deal with the handyman who worked yesterday *insert the ribbing here how it must be nice to be the boss and stay home when it snows. Insert me hacking on him, trying to pass my cold to him* to replace a door that was damaged by…. Unknown person trying to break in. Funny how the unknown person did the damage from the inside. After a stern warning about fights inside the home, and how I will removed them from the home as the door and repair was a months rent… I think we will not have any problems with the unknown person again.

So I get back to the desk and call him about 9:00 am. He has two bedrooms sets, two couches in the living room, two flat screen TV’s, a dining room table with 6 chairs and a server, computer desk and chair, and about 7 boxes. This after freaking ass pulling his teeth. For a Dr. you would think he understood telling the whole truth is best. He asked and I explained how the charge is done by the weight of the shipment.

I work up the bill- comes to $1,119.something change. I call him back and then the haggling starts. “It is just a few pieces, they can’t be that much weight.” I estimated 4,500 lbs. A average room with boxes is 1,200 to 1,500 lbs. Depending on the type of furniture. You ever tried to move furniture you know there is a hell of a difference between press wood, veneer covered, and the honest to god real wood. But on average- I think the estimate is right on. That and it is the lowest rate we go for. We are talking 100.00 in fuel, the driving time of 4 hours by the time you deal with city traffic, load, unload time.

I tell him this is the lowest we go for and he throws the furniture not weighing that much. Dude- I still have to take the size of truck, the time it takes to move the ‘light’ furniture to and from the truck. If it is lighter- it is still going to cost this amount at least. I tried to give him a estimate for 1000 lbs more as I like to give two estimates, one the amount I think and one to show how much more “In case” I did not use the Xray vision right on the phone or they forgot to tell me something. Normally they fall in the lower range, and we both are happy.

He tells me he had someone who said $900.00 flat. Ok. Then he tells me he had someone who will do it for $500.00. I asked so I could be clear “A mover priced you 500.00 for moving all the items you listed to me from Lexington to XXX?” “Yes” “Well then Sir, that sounds like a plan. Be stupid not to take that price.” Thinking back of a cow trailer hauled with a pickup is about what you deserve. I thanked him for giving us a call and sorry we could not help…about the time he asked me to take it to a flat thousand.

Ahhh… now you would not been trying to play poker with me, would ya? A bluff? “ No sire, the rate stands.” He then asked me to save Monday for him, he would call me back Thursday to confirm. I agreed, knowing that cuts me out of work on day but then the phones ain’t ringing off the hook so.

Can't wait to see what the rest of the day will bring.

The movie Signs always makes me stop and watch. While not the best movie, I like how it address a small town and alien invasion. I mean- we all don't live in New York, or Paris which seems to be the first cities invaded.

So if you think about it- you live 40 miles from town, out in the middle of a creepy corn field, sitting on the couch with aluminum foil hats on is the only way to handle it.

Sucks you can't block me. But I can block you. And have.

Why? Helping bandage Mom's hand that she has 5 stitches in from the skin cancer she had removed- a person who faked her death from cancer...

I don't have to deal with you. Cancer, the site owner, has given each and everyone of us that right.

Been kind of fighting off a sinus infection for the last three days. This morning it hit hard, and knocked me down a little. So I am drinking water, and trying to get over it.

Got a part time job- working a few hours a night when I can, on the weekends some. One reason I am not online much these days. But the money is a big help and it makes me feel like I am doing something. Moving forward instead of lugging in one spot.

And a courier run that picks up at 1:00 am and delivery is at 7:00 am, with a 4 1/2 hour drive between.

Mom Dr. appointment went alright. The Dr. cut the cancer off the back of her hand, with only 5 stitches, not the 12 the other Dr. warned us. Very grateful we spent the money and went to the Dermatologist, as her insurance/medicare would not cover it.

But he also checked her out and, unlike the other Dr. that we pointed out the spot on her hand, he checked her and found three other spots they took samples of, to test. I know there is a medical term, but I would butcher the spelling of it. lol

Two he said he was sure was cancer, and we would address them in two weeks when she returns to have the stitches out. These two - one right above her elbow on one arm, the other on her forehead. The last one was just beside her ear, and that one bleed like a bugger, and really made me want to throw up.

My sister, who lives out of town, was to of come down to help me with Mom today but as normal, she had a reason she couldn't come. And the sister who takes care of Mom is really unable to do the walking, the pushing of her wheelchair. I don't mind the labor, the work. Just really not a medical person when you take into account how I have a weak stomach when it comes to blood or pain, and don't even ask me to repeat the medical terms throw around today.

But she is home, the Dr. said to leave the bandage on her hand on for two days as she has such thin skin in that area. Then we start wrapping it each day. She was eating a fish sandwich, along with sister and brother, as that was what she wanted for Val dinner.

I went out with Cat and Birdy, which was nice. I checked on Mom when I got home a little after 8:00 to find she is in bed, hand to sore to hold a book up to read so she was trying to sleep.

I have to say the kindness given to me with two folks holding doors open as I moved her in and out- such a simple thing shows you people do care, make a difference.

As does a few hours with the gals. I miss all three of us getting together.

Now- to bed for me as busy day that is starting a 1/2 a hour earlier to make a estimate before someone goes to bed as she works night shift and wants a call before 7:30am. Two windows being replaced when we get back in town from at move in the afternoon, trip to the drug store to get supplies in for Mom.

Time for a snuggle into bed, a few chapters of a book to calm my mind, then sleep.

Happy Valentine Day to all that reads this. Show the ones you love that you care. Never know how long you have with them.

*hugs*

Robert Frost poem Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening fits my mood for the night. Little snow on the ground, darkness falling. This poem always brings such peaceful lovely images to my mind.

````
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
Seems I do this too often. I cook. And living alone makes it a bad thing, sometimes.
Yesterday was a whole chicken stuffed with lemon, onion, fresh rosemary. Little garlic oil on the outside, salt and pepper, and placed on a bed of onion in the dutch oven.... mmmm. Still in the refrigerator with just one leg missing as it fell off the bone for my taste test. ;) So tender and yummy.
And now I have half a pork loin roast in the same dutch oven, with BBQ sauce, red peppers, black pepper, salt, garlic oil, brown sugar coated. Laying on a bed of onions. The scent in my home right now.. *sniffs* wonderful.
So- enough food to do me a week.
So I went over to Cat's for a short visit, and her and her sister hinted that the 15 year old daughter *Cat's niece* had something happen to her in school today. So I asked her as she is in her bedroom off the living room and she yells to me "I got a boyfriend"
I ask what his name was- she tells me.
I ask if he was cute- she tells me he is.
I ask "And???"
She goes on to tell me he is moving soon, but they was dating.
"And what is this date going to be? When?"
"We are dating but not going out on dates."
O.o
Cat and her mother is trying there best to not laugh, as I try to understand. "So... how does dating work without going out on dates?"
"You would not understand." She tells me from her bedroom.
That made all three of us laugh- and I told her to use E-protection of she has E-sex.
Oh... to be 15 again and know it all.
Later she tries to tell me she just can't explain, was not trying to be rude to me. I knew she wasn't but I also explain I was thinking movies, dinner out, causal sex in the back seat of the car...
Her mother was ready to kill me, arms around my neck as she aged in front of my eyes, hair going more gray.
Like birra's journal- he wrote
"So a photographer has this image titled "Self Punishment" The article has nothing to do with what my mind took from it, but still...
It has had me thinking for day now- what would I do as a self punishment photo?
Would it be blindness so I could not see the beauty in life? Would it be deaf so I could not hear the birds in the morning, the full moon shinning in the tree branches? Would it be having no one in life, who cares for me? There could be so many images to bring this about.
Makes you think- what would your photo be of if it was titled Self Punishment?
Morning started out doing two small moves as favors. Few weeks ago my attorney worked up a release form for me to try and get into some of the abandoned buildings around here. People are really getting touchy about letting me into the places I want to get into, so she wrote me up a legal release.
For that I agreed to move several boxes, and a cabinet for a older gentleman that she knows. He was my band teacher, is well known in town. The items was up two flights of stairs so… I said we would do it. The man doesn’t need to be tugging down those boxes, hurt himself. My guys did it in an hour, placed into the storage building. He promised to send me a couple of tickets the next band performance they give, it’s a little group that gets together a few times a year and perform for the public. My attorney plays the flute, fiddle since Jr. High school.
Then it was moving one amora TV cabinet up the stairs of another person our family has known for years. His mother use to work at the bank and she was always helpful. He was a police man for years, and now, I think, works at the DEA. 350 lbs up a narrow stairway that starts up three steps, turns, with a overhand. Left the guys having to pick it up over the banister to even get it around the curve. Done, and he gave them each a $25.00 tip.
Planned to wash the trucks but cold air moved in, but we did get the large trash pile burned. Stood around, chatted, joked, to end the 4 hours min they get paid to come in. :)
Gratitude- My men who can drive me nuts can also make a day wonderful, fun. Like today.
Then a few items in town, the rain stopping, as I headed to Harlan Ky. Took my time, was running on time, and meet the three department heads about a local office move. Way too many Indians are going to be a problem as they could not even show me the items they needed moved without a fuss. Always makes for a fun move, but we will see if I get the job.
Gratitude- the water falls off the hills, catching the sun light that was starting to come out from behind the clouds. Looked like diamonds falling off the black coal.
Then the drive home, with a call that a freight truck that was to of been here before noon, is 20 miles away. Of course that is right at 5:00pm, and the dispatcher knew we closed the warehouse at 4:30pm. I pull into him just parking his truck. So I go and unload the little Chinese dude, him going to sit in his truck, leaving me to unload with my brother who came down to help.
At the end of me unloading the 5 wooden shipping crates (4 feet wide/ 7 feet tall, 7 feet deep, wooden, 1000 lbs easy) I notice one of the crates has the floor busted out, most of them had the security seals broken. Now- these are seals they use on the doors, to keep the thieving down. They are applied at pickup, numbers logged into the inventory that I get before they show up. You check the number, and if they are the same, and solid- you are fine. If they are broken, or the wrong numbers- you write it up on the freight bill. Tracking who broke into it, or who changed them.
The Chinese dude had a fucking fit. It is 5:50, getting dark, and he is calling all these folks so I can explain why I wrote the seals as being broken. “Uh…because they are.” “We just picked up the trailer- you are blaming us for stealing.” “We did not steal- you are setting us up.” “What is a seal? We don’t check seals.” all told to me in broken English. Seems the guy's dispatcher, I say wife, could not speak good English either.
Military- if you read my journal you know they have cut the price paid for movers by more 2/3. Instead of using a freaking professional shipping company they got this lame ass shit. “If you do shipping, you know what security seals are. Don’t act like you don’t. They are broken, enough said.” But after a hour of having some broken English screamed at me over the phone, and the man standing there saying over her “You not write up.” I had enough. I closed my doors, told the man to get in his god damn truck and get off my property. I was closed and I did not have hours to explain to anyone how to do their fucking job.
So what does the dude do? He starts walking around the building, looking for a way in. I tried to calm, and told him he can come back in the morning, we would pick it up then. Nooooo…. Then he said he wanted a photo. It is 6:20pm, alone, I ain’t fucking opening the building, and going in alone with him. No, and you need to leave. He goes and opens his tractor hood, saying his truck broken. Ohhh… I was ready to break something.
I called the cops. Two very nice men came, one had been in the military and understood the seals, even though the other cop understood. Doesn’t take a fucking brain surgeon folks. So the guy tells him he wanted me to take the crates out of the building, spread out so he can see all sides, and turn outside light on so he can take photos. I said no. I will open the building, he can go in, and take them but I was not going to move them from where I had them stacked three high already. He should of took the photos while I was unloading. Into the buildings we go, the police walking with me. He took photos, and started again with the “I did no damage. She can’t write up. It is opening me to claim. She must show me damage.” I explained again I can’t open the crates. Only way to do is to have a military inspector to come, agree to open them, and I can tell you they will not. He takes a few photos, saying I need to take them down. I just stood there, kept my mouth shut as after a while- why? Why say a fucking word when no one is listening? He gets upset, starts waving his arms about, yelling. The police step up as he steps toward me saying I was cheating him from his pay.
The walked him out of the building, I locked up, and they took him to his truck. I walked up to them after a few minutes, and he said he was leaving, and would not be back. Good- all I asked for. The police followed him out of the parking lot, and I go home to food and rum.
Gratitude- Policemen who are willing to help, ending drama with a hand on a elbow and a gentle push toward the door.
The 3 things I am grateful for today-
Cat, in mid rant, saying "Why do they always tell you to grow a pair. I mean...balls. We are women- wouldn't it be ovaries? We have ovaries damn it. Grow a pair of ovaries!"
I have laugh all day over that one.
Second- The back and forth of ideals, able to talk to someone who doesn't think you are nuts.
McDonald's drink holder that looks just like stone, that made a freaking great fireplace for the doll house.
:D
Pictures Sunday, but now off to watch someone try and catch a bird. O.o The games kids play today.
Crimson Loft Wing I mean... God help I get that wrong. LOL
I wish I could make that heart thingy for Joli. Her journal is just what I needed today. Let me tell you why if you have time.
Today has been one of those days. We moved a older lady that I knew would be a hand full. She called about two weeks ago, trying to get the date of not paying rent at her apartment, while moving into another. Hard to do when the one she is moving into is getting a remodel. But she set her date, and I gave her a estimated price.
I know she is on a fixed income, SSI. I understand and we usually take that into account. I estimated 4 to 5 hours. She worried she would not have enough money so I told her I would agree to this- she pays me the 4 hours. If it goes over, she can pay me the rest in a few weeks when her check for Feb comes in. She was happy, I got a job, and all was going as plan.
Then this morning when the crew arrived- the first of many hitches. She was not packed, not ready at all really. But they worked with her, packing for her, even tho that was not the normal service the price covers. But I had asked them to go the extra mile.. and they did.
She would hold up a vase, turn to them, tell one of the guys to put it in a certain box. When we pack- we really don't take items from one room to another, to another, kind of labor. It stays in the same room, into boxes. But they did it...and it cost the last nerve they had. lol
So when they called me to check in around noon, when I expected them back at the office, they are telling me how the lady was starting to get on their nerves, but they was on the way to deliver.
Then the new apartment. Seems the lady moved in a few days, a week really, early. That is according to the carpet layer who is just getting the pad down in the apartment. A apartment that stinks from the glue he used to put the kitchen, utility room vinyl down. He tells them it would be Saturday before he would be done. So a call to me- telling me to come out and "handle this shit- we have had enough".
Out I go, carpet men are getting pissed as the woman is mad, telling them she had to get in tonight. I mean- the bathroom toilet was up, the place was just not ready to move into. So I talked to the carpet men, who wanted to go to lunch, be back in a hour. After our little talk- they worked and got the living room carpet in. We was to place the items into the small kitchen/ dining room area, and the living room only. The two bedroom, bath was to be left alone. And it would take them a hour to get the carpet down as it was.
Went and talked to the apartment manager as I knew we would have to put some items up against the walls, might scratch a few of the newly painted walls- about the only thing done in the whole place. They electric covers, lights fixtures was still off even. The kitchen dishwasher was out, being replaced with a new one, and the refrigerator wasn't clean. She understood and told me the carpet layers was to had been there the day before. Which would of had the place ready for us by the time we got there.
But we started, after the hour to lay the living room carpet. As the washer/dryer was put in the wet flooring bunched up under the leg, where they patched/ seemed it at the back. Hello problem two. At the end she wanted her VCR, and I had one of the guys looking, as they had packed it. One of the other, who is well known for his harsh words, comes in and starts it. She didn't say he stolen the thing- she just wanted to find it. *sigh*
Why turn something ugly?
Then it was a payment, more then I expected and it would of paid the bill if it hadn't been the waiting time. She said she will mail the balance and we left.
Back to the office to my cold lunch that was left when the guys called me out, to find a freight truck was coming in before 4:30, the warehouse closing time. He showed up at 4:55pm, thank you very much. But I read Joli journal as I waited- and was thinking of, even with the stress of the day, what I could be grateful for.
But as I open the warehouse up to get the folklift, I was thinking of how I wanted some of the old days back. Today was a old day- and I came home after 5:30 thinking how good it felt. :) Like old times- one thing after another. Yes- I wish I could redo a few things today, someone would learn to keep his anger in check, but it was a good busy day. :D
Now to my list-
1- Work.
2- People who try to work together.
3- Sunny warm day.
