I finally made the damn news in the UK!
I went to the huge rally held in London on Sunbda the 29th against "Top Up Fees" for students in the UK. Basically it would raise tuition costs so much none of us totally cool people would be able to afford to go to school here...talk about SUCK-AY!
Anyway, I took tons of pictures with my err...phone. Sorry guys, no can do on the pics of Big Ben yet until I get Bluetooth or what ever the hell it is.
The bus trip down took over 13 hours and then back the next night - I am tired an going to bed so I can actually make the party I was invited to attend this evening.
My ass is getting too old for this shit...Sort of like "Sgt. Hulka."
lol :D
Translating old ass documents that aren't even from the period I am going to look at is the most frustrating, total bullshit thing I have ever ever done!
Here is an example of some crap I had to translate:

UTTER CRAP I SAY!
BAH HUMBUG!
Dear Cheryl,
just a brief note to recap.
1. Concentrate your searches on the specified clans on the Highland-Lowland peripheries with a view to scaling down from 1600-1800 to the Jacobite period (1680-1760) with particular focus on the house of Atholl and Lord George Murray. But keep your searches as broad as possible at this juncture.
2. At this early stage note but do not read published primary material,
paying particular attention to the volume of dated sources. Concentrate on secondary material germane to the Highland-Lowland peripheries, Jacobitism and clanship.
3. Look out the section on family and local history in the QML (if it is still on open shelves) and go through any relevant material with a view to identifying published primary material rather than reading dated analyses.
In this context, get a hold of the Scots Peerage, edited by Sir James
Balfour-Paul, 9 vols (Edinburgh, 1900s) and draw up a family tree of the Atholls and their connections from the period of the 1st Marquess, c.1650 through to 1800/
See you next Tuesday at the same time. I will meet you in Zeste.
cheers,
Allan

Now isn't this just to die for interesting?
Yeah that's what I thought! The only person who likes this kind of crap is me! heh heh heh
I just added a few pictures from my trips to Stirling Castle and Edinburgh to my portfolio - but they didn't come out as great as I wanted and I need to get the rest loaded on here. Plus I want to add some more when I figure out this damn camera better. I will add the rest to my photobucket later and put some more here in my journal when I get a little more time.
With the arm fracture it makes it difficult to sit here and type...
Enjoy what I did add for now...
oh yes - and there is a devastatingly handsome Scottish guy that I just adore in there too. He is a Big Guy - but not fat...just the way I like them. So if any one wants to get mean with me - I think he might pound you! lol just kidding gang :D
Oh yes - and I did get elected Student Activities Convener for the University of Aberdeen Student's Association. Not too bad for a pre-menopausal asshole, is it?
What truths to hold dear? What beliefs linger after successfully raising a conscientious, kind child and navigating the sharks of the private sector? I accept as true a single belief in complete freedom, while subscribing to John Locke’s theory that most humans are voluntarily willing to give up a certain amount of freedom to create governments which safeguard their inalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of what makes them feel good enough to giggle. Still, the whole idea of “in your face” government and control freaks running the show has never appealed to me. I find ‘beliefs’ as such to be oppressive. Believe me, beliefs are limiting – including the belief not to have beliefs. Still with me? As stated in a very intelligent and funny film (cough, Dogma, cough) “It is much better to have a GOOD IDEA.”
I do have a few good ideas to share. I would like to see Aberdeen reach forward into the twenty-first century and provide more cutting edge technology and services that students not only want, but literally are going to need. Let’s face it, the Internet may not really be Al Gore’s invention (err…it was actually a military advancement created for U.S. National Security. Sorry, Al.), but it is fast becoming a necessity on college campuses internationally. It binds us and connects us all – sort of like the Force only with less midichlorian activity and more security check points.
I would also like to take an active part in motivating the next gen of students to get involved with the University on some level other than classes or parties (although a really great party can’t be beat!). There is a vast world out there, but as soon as one starts to travel and educate oneself the world becomes a much smaller place – one where anyone who tries can make a difference. Every day we wake up is another chance to see something amazing happen. All we have to do as individuals is take that first step. Someone who has been there will be able to help us if only we make the effort.
That is what I am doing now and what I am offering. I have been to many places and done numerous varied things. Now it is time for me to offer up my experience to a new group and do what I can to help us all achieve what we are destined to do. I had to take the first step and contact the AUSA to get involved. What rewards wait from those few minutes of my life? Only time will tell, but to me it’s more about what I can offer to others. The rest is just gravy. I am here to listen to you, my fellow students, and discover what you really need to make your University experience unparalleled in excellence. Tell me what you think because I am listening.
I take people as I find them all the while keeping in mind the greater good.
“Do what thou wilt, lest ye harm none.” Good words to live by if one desires to live in harmony and freedom. I suppose I live an idealistic philosophy but, frankly, now more than ever we need the philosophers of life to become our leaders. Maybe then we can achieve a desperately needed balance.
“Be the change you want to see in others.” More powerful thought-provoking words that cause me to think about how to quit allowing life to just happen and create it the way I want to live it. If there are cool leaders with decent values there will inevitably be followers repeating the words and deeds that made them take notice and think. These people then become leaders to others and so on. Then a change occurs. Historically speaking, it happens slowly – but happen it does. I like to consider myself one of those leaders that others can emulate on some level all the while learning from those who are learning from me. We are symbiants with one another and the world around us and need to start living like it. That means really caring about what is happening then getting involved where a need exists which starts initiating change. That is what I am all about.
One more thing, remember to plant your seeds. We need all the plants we can get up here!
Peace Out -
