“Choose, Lily Bell Ash, what future will you grant your friend? Will you sacrifice for her? Or will you let her be the sacrifice?” Norlan held his gun to Isabella’s head.
Isabella kept her pulpy beaten face to the ground, but her eyes looked up through wild hair stained with blood, locking with Lily. They were brave eyes, prepared for the end.
“No. Please,” Lily begged, remembering the capsule in Isabella’s neck. “Hold on, we will come for you, I swear.”
“Make your choice.” Norlan pressed.
Tears flowed abundantly, running diluted trails of blood down Isabella’s cheeks. “Have faith in me,” Lily urged.
Norlan pulled the trigger, sending a round through Isabella’s thigh. She screamed and clutched the wound with trembling hands.
Lily felt herself break. “Killer!” she hissed at Norlan. “Murderers!” she shouted at the crowd. “All of you, I will bring your world down!” She stood up and stepped back onto the lip of the cliff, the wind tossing about her hair and dress. “I will bring you all down.”
Norlan shouted at Lily, but she did not hear. She inched back with her heels over the edge of the cliff and jumped.
