Unlike the Mechwarrior games, Mechassault is less of a simulator game than it is a 3rd person shooter game. Mech mechanics and damage modes are simplified dramatically, and the campaign has a bit more of an arcade feel to it.

Set in the overall Battletech universe, the player's goal is to stop the fanatical religious sect "The Word of Blake". The game also supported online and battle modes.
