An Icons replica Han Solo Blaster as featured by the handsome rogue in George Lucas’ incredible sci-fi trilogy Star Wars. This beautiful piece was created from an in depth study of the original filming prop in the Lucasfilm Archives and replicated by Icons own Fabrication & Design team based in the USA. It was not mass replicated in China as most movie prop replicas tend to be to keep manufacturing costs down, ensuring it was a valued and worthy piece in the owner’s collection; every rub & battle scar was faithfully replicated by the artisans at Icons Fab & Design team.
The Icons replicas were produced by talented industry technicians who, when not working for Icons, were actually working on other well-known shows including Star Trek, Deep Space 9, Babylon 5 to name but a few. Many collectors were of the opinion that you could not get much closer to the actual filming props in a licensed replica. This was proven true that when LFL launched their ‘Power of Myth’ exhibition and book to accompany the exhibit, it was the Icons X-Wing, Tie Fighter and lightsabers which were exhibited along with Don Post's line of fibreglass prop replicas, not the original filming props!
The Han Solo Blaster was replicated at a time when Icons license with Lucasfilm was up for renewal. Just 300 pre-orders had been received of an expected 5000 unit edition when LFL pulled the plug on Icons which effectively killed the project. As of the summer of 1998 Icons were awaiting the approval of LFL to produce the 300 pre-orders which was not forthcoming.
Only a handful of the cased replicas were completed as ‘Artists Proofs’, some of which had been exhibited to secure orders on the expected 5000 production pieces. This replica designated AP:21 still bears Icons own property label: 000125. The stunning collectible is presented in an official Icons acrylic display case complete with numbered plaque and full Icons paperwork. The item itself is made from cast metal with warm brown wooden grip, it even has the functioning hammer and trigger action and is a satisfyingly weighty piece. The display measures 40cm x 24cm x 10cm (15.75” x 9.5” x 4”) and all remains in fantastic condition.
