Profile updated 01/03/09
Clearly this thing is a work in progress, so check back whenever you're bored enough to be curious. :)
On further consideration (and looking at a crapload of different and unique profiles), I am going to use only my own graphics that I create myself. I mean, there are a LOT of awesome profiles, and a number of them even have good spelling, punctuation, and grammar. I think that if I'm to get to that level of awesomeness, I want to get there on my own credit and not rely on the abilities and art of others (unless I'm showing examples of artists or similar that I like, in which case it's clearly not mine).
In other words, I'm going to be busting open my art progs in a little while and fiddling around in them, to see what I can make this time around. I've got up new little banners and even an image for my profile, though I think I'm going to be adding things to that picture. Possibly someone dancing, or critters of some sort, that sort of thing. It's incomplete, but hopefully won't be for long.
I am average height and average weight, with pale eyes and dark hair that I have a habit of dying one or another shade of red. If I'm out in the sun for long I get burned and then freckled, so it's pretty clear I'm at least partially Irish. Though I'm not sure I've gotten the head for liquors...
I just recently got the go-ahead to working as a licensed massage therapist (don't go to the chair things in the mall - they're not licensed and don't really know what they're doing, and I've a whole rant about the thing), and so will not be very active on here, as well as pretty much living in the Livejournal part of the web.
I write. A LOT. As well as read. I don't watch much in the way of television, and if I do watch something it's more likely I'll watch it online, except for one show in particular. On the art front, I dabble, and sketch, and take photographs (when I can find my camera, that is... >.>) then will play with them in one art program or another. All that said, I tend to actually prefer doing digital art to the more traditional stuff.
On a side note, I am what is commonly referred to as a Grammar Nazi. This means that, even if I think your profile is awesome, if you have a number of misspelled words, missing apostrophes, or capitalize every single word in a sentence, I will rate you lower. And if you happen to see me misspelling something, or have some faux pas like that, do poke me and explain where I went wrong.
I am also very much my birth sign, which is Scorpio. This means that I hold grudges, have no tolerance or patience for bullshit, am blunt unless I work at having tact (which I apparently was born without), and that when I get in a relationship I tend to be kinda... overwhelming. And sexual. And that sort of thing. However, I'm happily in a relationship and not looking for anything at the moment, so I'd appreciate it if I didn't get pinged for cybering. Except with my boyfriend.
I tend to read books involving the supernatural, particularly mysteries. I've recently discovered a fondness for Phaedra Weldon's Zoe Martinique series, though I've only finished the first one. I have plans to follow this series as closely as I used to follow Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series before she changed to a romance publisher, though I do still find myself unable to stop from reading her stuff, simply skipping the sex scenes when they bore me.
Other than those two series, I also have a great love for Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series, as well as P.G. Wodehouse's old Jeeves and Wooster books. Then there's James Patterson's Maximum Ride series (though I also liked the first two birdkid books that weren't part of the series), most of Dean Koontz's books (in particular the two Christopher Snow books I've read, though I think there's another one I've yet to get my grubby little paws on), Patricia C Wrede's Enchanted Forest Chronicles (an excellent set of books to read to a little girl), some of Kelley Armstrong's books (haven't read many but I've heard that as they continue they start sucking - I'll probably read them anyway), the Harry Potter series, Tolkien's Middle Earth books, Harlan Coben's Myron Bolitar series...
And then there's Douglas Adams' batshit insane Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. As that's one of my favorite books, that gives you a good idea of how my messed up mind works. :D
In general, the movies I tend to go for also fall in the supernatural direction. Well, to one extent or another. I'm rather fixated at the moment on the old Omen trilogy, and pretend that the fourth movie doesn't exist. The new one gets an 'eh' from me, mostly due to the fact that, while the older versions were kinda weird and clunky, they're still pretty good.
I also am ridiculously fond of Dogma. Even though it's crude and not my normal type, the fact that Alanis Morissette played
God was spec-freaking-tacular.
Then there's The Reaping, Silent Hill, Four Brothers, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Serenity, Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz, Children of Man, the Blade Trilogy, the Harry Potter movies, Ghostbusters I and II, and many others that have slipped my mind at the moment :)
I watch a number of TV shows, but there's only one that I'm obsessive about (and yes I will admit that - it's hard for someone in an active fandom to
not be obsessive), and that would be Supernatural. Other shows that I'll randomly watch online are: Bones, House, Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles, Fringe, and probably a few others but I can't remember them at the moment. I'll usually let several episodes pile up online and then watch them all in one fell swoop.
I've also found a sudden and profound affection for the BBC's new show Merlin. The boylove, it is so obvious. And also adorable. Yes, I have a weak spot for the snark and utter affection that these two boys have for one another. :)
Mind, those are just the shows that are on TV that I watch. When one counts the canceled ones, there's also Buffy, Charmed, Angel: The Series, Firefly, Rumpole at the Bailey (don't ask, I don't even know why), and Jericho. I also watch the earlier seasons of NCIS, Torchwood, and other shows, as I'm not totally caught up to speed on them. On the anime front, I watch Ranma 1/2 on occasion, Ikki Tousen, The Familiar of Zero, Witch Hunter Robin, Tsubasa Chronicles, and pretty much anything else that catches my fancy. Though my one true anime love would have to be Gundam Wing.
Music is definitely one of my loves in life. Generally speaking, at the moment I'm going through a bit of a classic rock kick, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Rolling Stones, that sort of thing. Though I think my favorite two bands remain 3 Doors Down and Matchbox Twenty (I am SO glad they've gotten back together again!). I also listen to Metallica (S&M is my favorite album by them), Linkin Park, Kane, 30 Seconds to Mars, Goo Goo Dolls, Loreena McKennett, Vanessa Mae, Santana, Nickelback, Papa Roach, Godsmack, Disturbed, and goodness only knows who else. Those, however, are the main ones though I also have an unhealthy love for Goldfrapp's Strict Machine. :)
Well, from what I understand my previous coven, that of the Dark Shadows, was disbanded while I was away on an insane RL thing, and now I've been caught up by the Egyptians? A LOT happens really, really quick in here o.O;;;
I am happily mated and have no interest in looking for others... unless it's for something that my boy and I have discussed already, in which case it's up to the both of us. This means, don't try to cyber me or you will be laughed at. It also means that we're not cruising for a hookup unless previously discussed, so don't offer unless we go to sniffing around you. We won't be vulgar and we will not press if you're not interested.
On rating: I believe in fairness, and don't particularly care what you rate me as, as long as my rating doesn't suddenly drop through the floor because I gave you constructive criticism when you asked why I gave you what I did. In that case, I will be annoyed, but I will not get involved in some stupid bitchfest just because someone doesn't like how I rated them. It's a waste of my energy. I am picky as hell, so don't be offended if you get an eight (which is pretty much my standard, and it's not like my rating has much weight to it to begin with). I think I've only given out a few nines and even fewer tens.
One more thing on rating (and hopefully the last, for goodness and badness' sake):
I WILL NOT LEAVE A COMMENT WHEN I RATE LOWER THAN A TEN UNLESS IT STATES IN YOUR PROFILE THAT YOU WOULD LIKE CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM. I'm not going to offer unsolicited advice on how you have your own profile, though I will rate as I see fit. And if you ping me and
ask why I rated as I did, I have no problem with explaining my reasonings and offering whatever help I can. Otherwise, don't act childishly and leave a rude comment and ridiculously low rating. I refuse to respond to vitriol.
