Chapter 1





There is a school named Van Nuys High School or VNHS for short. The JROTC is preparing for a field trip to a camp ground. The students had to get their parental consents signed before they could go on the camping trip. Amy was one of the few to go on the camping trip. So as soon as she got home, she waited for her mother to come home so her mother could sign the consent form.



As soon as Amy’s mother came home, she said, “As long as you come straight home after the trip is over then you can go.” “I know. I will try to come straight home as fast as I can then.” said Amy. So her mother signed the consent form and then she was getting ready for the trip. On the next day of school, everyone in the JROTC that was going on the camping trip was talking about it. Amy on the other hand was just sitting there and thinking.



She was thinking of what the camping trip will be like and what was there to do and see. Sam walked up to Amy and asked, “What are you doing?” Amy said, “Nothing, I’m just thinking about what the camp site will be like.” So then Sam and Amy were talking about it.



During Amy’s sixth period, she was working on class work until she suddenly fainted. It took her three minutes to come too. As soon as the bell rang at the end of sixth period, she was in a wheelchair being rolled to the nurse’s office to rest. Max was going the same way to go home when he saw Amy. So he ran over to find out what happened to her.



So the nurse said, “Amy fainted near the end of sixth period. So I’m taking her to the nurse’s office.” “So that’s what happened. You alright Amy?” said Max. Amy said, “Yes just a little dizzy.” Max said, “Well I hope you feel better soon.” “Thanks. I’ll see you tomorrow.” said Amy.



“Yes see you tomorrow” said Max. Then Max ran home to finish his homework. Soon Amy was in the nurse’s office resting for a few minutes. Then she felt much better and went home. As soon as Amy got home, she went straight to doing her homework so that she didn’t have to worry about bringing it with her to the camping trip.



So as soon as Amy finished her homework, she went to sleep early so that she would be well rested for tomorrow. The next day, everyone that was going on the camping trip was putting their bags on the bus and taking their seats. There was only two seats in the back of the bus that were left. Amy was the only one that sat on one of the last two seats. Max noticed that Amy was sitting by herself and went over to her and sat right next to her.



The trip took three hours to get there and they were staying for four days and three nights. Soon they were one hour to the camp site and everyone was talking except for Amy which she was just sitting and looking out of the window. Within the second hour, Amy was starting to fall asleep and that’s when Max noticed. Max said, “You alright? You look tired.” Amy said, “Yes I’m fine, I’m probably still exhausted from yesterday.” Max said, “Why don’t you lay your

head down on my shoulder.”



“No thanks, I’ll be fine till we get there.” said Amy. “Alright if you say so.” said max. Then in the second hour Amy fell asleep. Soon the bus arrived at the camp site and that’s when Max woke Amy up. Some of the JROTC students have already been to the camp site before.



Amy asked, “Have you been here before Max?” “Yes I have. Want me to show you around?” said Max. Amy said, “I’ve never been here before so could you please?” So Max showed Amy where everything was at. Where the bathrooms were at, the pool, the beach, and so on.



Soon after, Amy and Max went back to the camp site to set their tents up. Eventually everyone set their tents up and got ready for dinner. After dinner, everyone was asleep except for Amy. She was sitting near the beach because she couldn’t sleep and thought that the sound of the waves would help her fall asleep. During the night, Max woke up because he couldn’t sleep either.



Soon enough Max saw Amy sitting outside alone, so he went over there and asked her, “Are you alright?” “Yes I’m fine. Why you ask?” said Amy. Max said, “Well you’re just sitting here all alone by the beach, so I was just wondering if anything was wrong.” Amy said, “Nothings wrong, it’s just that I can’t seem to sleep” “Me either and I don’t know why.” said Max.



“I’m only out here because I’m hoping the sound of the waves will help me fall asleep.” said Amy. “I was kind of here for the same thing.” said Max. Soon enough they both fell asleep.





Chapter 2





The next day everyone had some free time after a lot of marching. Amy decided to go walk around the beach and swim with everyone else after. As soon as Amy got to the beach, she started walking by the water until Sam pushed Amy playfully into the water. So Amy started to chase Sam around the beach. Max was sitting on the sand and all of a sudden saw Amy playfully chasing Sam.



Max thought that looked like fun so he decided to join them. Soon enough the three friends got tired and decided to take a breather from chasing each other. Max asked, “What are you two going to do next?” Amy said, “Well I’m planning on going swimming in the pool after this. What about you Max?” “Me well I’m planning on sleeping the rest of the day. What about you Sam?” said Max.



Sam said, “Um I don’t really know yet, but I guess I will go swimming at the pool with Amy next as well.” Right after they had enough rest they decided to make some sand castles and to see who’s sand castle is better. Sam had the better castle. Then Max got second better castle and Amy got last best. “Well looks like I got last place.” said Amy. “Good job on your sand castles” said Max.



“Thanks!” said both Sam and Amy. Max said, “Well I’m going back to my tent too sleep. You guys going to go to the pool and swim now?” “Yes we are going to head over there right now. So see you later Max.” said Amy. “Ok see you guys later and have fun swimming.” said Max. “Ok see you. Sam I’ll race you to the pool.” said Amy.



“Your on. I bet I could beat you there.” said Sam.” Amy said, “Ya right. I’m faster.” Sam said, “Bring it on.” “Ready, Set Go!” said Amy. They started running there as fast as they could. As soon as they got there they were both exhausted.



“You win Amy. You tired me out to fast.” said Sam. Amy said, “I think I’m more tired. Probably because I ran a little too fast.” “Ya you did didn’t you.” said Sam. So they went into the building so that they could go swimming. As soon as they got to the pool room, they jumped into it.



The other students asked both Sam and Amy to play water polo and they decided to play. “Amy your serve.” said Rose. Amy served the ball which was returned by Alex, then to Scott. Then Scott missed and it hit the water. Sarah the Referee said, “Point to red team. Which leaves the score blue 3 and red 4. If red team make the next point then they win. Blue team try to catch up if you can.”



All of a sudden the blue team got a point. Sarah said, “It’s a tied game. Who will make this next point?” Then the ball landed right next to Alex and the blue team won. Sarah said, “That’s it game over! Blue team wins!” Everyone on blue team started to cheer while red team looked disappointed.



“Good game.” said blue and red team and then everyone left except Sam and Amy. “To bad Max wasn’t here to play.” said Sam. Amy said, “Ya it would’ve been more fun if he was here.” So both Amy and Sam started to swim around the pool. Then Amy said, “Want to race right now?”



“No thanks. I’ve had enough racing for one day, but maybe tomorrow.” said Sam. Amy said, “Ok then. Hey want to pass the ball around for a while?” “Sure why not.” said Sam. After they were done swimming, they went back to their tents to see it was a little cold from the wind. The campfire was put out by the wind and everyone was in their tents and talking.



Max called to Amy from the outside of her tent later in the night. “You asleep yet?” said Max. Amy said, “No. I’ve been reading to pass the time.” Max said, “Want to take a walk?” “Sure. Just give me a minute.” said Amy.



So Max and Amy were walking around and talking. Amy suddenly fell asleep and fell, but then Max caught her before she hit the floor and then carried her back to her tent. So then Max went back to his tent and fell asleep as well.





Chapter 3





The next day after the JROTC morning marching, Sam and Amy started to talk about who their first crush is. “Hey Sam, who was your first crush?” asked Amy. Sam said, “Well my first crush was Edger Maxwell. What about you?” Amy said, “Well my first crush is Max Stern.” Max overheard what Sam and Amy were talking about and Max already knew, but never said anything.



Then Max walked over to Sam and Amy were and asked, “What are you two doing?” Then Amy almost jumped when she heard Max’s voice, but instead she stuttered a bit. Amy said, “N-nothing. Why you ask?” Max said, “No reason. Just wondering. “Sam said, “Ok well I’ll be right back.”



Amy said, “Ok then. I will be waiting.” Then Sam went into the building nearby Amy and Max to hide and listen to what they were talking about. Max asked Amy, “I’m just wondering, but do you have any plans for today?” Amy said, “No. I was just going to sit around in my tent and read all day. Maybe go swimming later.” “Want to go swimming with my later?” Max asked.



“Um sure. I guess I could do that.” said Amy. Max asked, “Should we meet each other at four o’clock?” “That’s fine.” said Amy. “Ok I guess I’ll see you later then, I’m not always on time so I might be a little bit late.” said Max “That’s sometimes happens to me too. So don’t worry about it.” said Amy.



So both Amy and Max made plans later, but until then Amy and Sam were talking. Sam came out of hiding and went to Amy and started talking. Amy said, “Let me guess, you were listening to what Max and I were talking about right?” Sam said, “Yes I’m sorry about that. It’s a force of habit.” Amy said, “Don’t worry about it, but please don’t tell anyone or bother us ok.”



“Don’t worry I wont, but I’m just wondering, how long have you liked Max?” asked Sam. Amy said, “Um well I think it was when I first went to VNHS in ninth grade.” Sam said, “It doesn’t seem to

long does it.” Amy said, “Yes I know, but it was kind of love at first sight I guess.” Then they both finished talking about it.



So Sam went to her tent while Amy walked on the beach for a while until four o’clock. By the time Amy was done walking, it was three o’clock which only took an hour long. So Amy decided to go to the pool early to wait. Thirty minutes passed since she was at the pool so she just jumped into the pool to swim while she waited for the next thirty minutes. Then it was four o’clock and it was a no show for Max. so she waited another five minutes and then he showed up.



Max said, “Sorry I’m late. I was on my way here, but I didn’t realize that I would be late.” Amy said, “Don’t worry about it. I got here way to early. So I started to swim while I waited for you.” “Max asked, “So how long did you wait for me?” “I waited thirty five minutes, but I got here about three o’clock and I didn’t really mind.” said Amy. Then Max jumped into the pool.



As soon as Max came up out of the water, he said, “I heard what you said earlier.” Amy said, “About what?” Max said, “I overheard you and Sam talking and that you said that you love me.” All of a sudden Amy turns away so Max doesn’t see her blush. Max started walking over to Amy and said, I don’t really feel the same.



Suddenly Amy felt really disappointed, but Max said, “Well that’s what I thought I felt, but then my feelings for you changed. So I thought that I actually do love you.” Suddenly Amy turned her head to Max and said, “Really? You do?” Max said, “Yes I really do mean it. Also I’ll always be here for you if you need me.” Then Amy leaned on Max and said, “You know, this has been a long day hasn’t it.



Max said, “Yup and I didn’t realize it and um its starting to get cold. Want to head back?” Amy said, “Yes and I think the wind is getting in here somehow.” So both Max and Amy started to walk back to the camp site after they changed into dry clothes and it got a little colder. Then Amy sneezed. Max said, “Are you alright?”



“Yes I’m fine. Just a little cold.” said Amy. So then Max put his sweater on Amy and she said, “Thank you, but why did you give me your sweater?” Max said, “Well I think you need it more than I do.” As soon as they got back to the camp site it was only four thirty and Amy said, “Geeze this has been a very long day and hardly any time passed at all.” So they both went to sit down next to the fire and Amy layed her head on Max’s shoulder and he didn’t mind.



Then a few minutes later some of the other JROTC students came back to the camp site and suddenly Amy took her head off of Max and Sam came up to them and said, “What are you two doing?” Max said, “Nothing we are just sitting next to the fire.” Sam said, “Well why not go to your tents to keep warm? I think I see a storm coming in.” Amy said, “You know I’m getting tired so I’m going to bed. Oh and before I forget, here Max. thanks for letting me use your sweater. Max said, “Your welcome.



Then Amy went to sleep. So then Max and Sam started to talk. Sam said, “I see that you two are in love with each other.” Max said, “Not at first, but eventually I did fall in love with her.” Sam said, “Well that does happen.” Sam and Max were talking for the next few hours till they both got tired.



“I’m just wondering, but what are you guy’s going to do tomorrow?” said Sam. “I don’t really know yet, but we will figure it out soon enough.” So then they went to bed.



Chapter 4





The next morning was still windy out and both Max and Sam woke up. Max said, “Where is Amy at? I thought she would be awake by now.” Sam said, “She is probably not coming out of the tent because its so cold out.” That was not the case because Amy has actually caught a high fever. “Well I don’t blame her, but all of us have to practice marching in a little while.” said Max. “Yes, but she probably has a reason for staying in the tent.



Soon every JROTC student was outside, other than Amy because everyone thinks that she is still asleep. Then Max whispered to Sam saying, “This is not like Amy. She should have been here already.” Then suddenly the first sargent asked everyone, “Ok where is Amy?” Max said, “I think she is still in her tent. So I’ll go get her if that’s ok.” Then First Sergeant said, “Go ahead, but don’t take to long.”



Max ran to Amy’s tent and called her from the outside of the tent, but she didn’t reply. So then Max had no other choice, but to open the tent to find her sleeping. So Max said, “Amy. Amy Wake up!” and she still didn’t reply. Instead Amy started to twitch a bit and moved around like she was having a nightmare. So max felt her forehead and figured out why she wouldn’t wake up.



So Max yelled out to the First Sargent and said, “First Sergeant Amy’s running a frightfully high fever and I think that’s why she wont wake up!” So then the Sargent ran over to the tent. Then suddenly Amy woke up, but in pain saying, “Max what are you doing in my tent?” Suddenly Max turned to Amy and said, “I’ve been trying to wake you up, but you didn’t wake up because your running a frightfully high fever.” Amy said, “Really because I do feel a bit dizzy.”



Then Amy all of a sudden collapsed in her tent. “Amy you alright?!” Max yelled. “I think she just fainted from her fever. As soon as she wakes up, give her some of this medicine.” said First Sargent. “Ok I’ll do that.” said Max. It took almost an hour for her to wake up again.



Max then said, “First Sargent told me to give you this medicine when you woke up again.” “Thanks.” said Amy in a weak voice. So then she took the medicine and tried to walk out of the tent, but instead she lost her balance a few times. Then Max had to help Amy out of her tent so that she doesn’t fall over. As soon as they got outside of the tent, the wind got even worse then it already was. As soon as Amy and Max went back to the fire pit, they saw that only the First Sargent was there and he said, “everyone in wandering about until four o’clock because that’s when we are leaving.” “Alright then.” said Max. then Amy said, “What are we going to do until four o’clock?” Max said, “Well first of all we are going to wait until your fever goes down a bit. Then we are going to take down our tents. Then after that probably get something to eat.”



Amy said, “Ok then. I still feel a little bit dizzy, but not as much as before.” Max then said, “yes, but you still need to rest a bit until your fever goes down.” “Yes I know, but I’m just saying.” said Amy. As soon as it was noon, Amy’s fever had dropped completely. Then Amy and Max started to take their tents down which only took about twenty minutes to finish.



Max said, “So Amy. Want to get something to eat now? I bet everyone is eating by now.” Amy said, “Sure why not. I’m a bit hungry now. So I’ll go when your ready.” Then they walked over to the nearest restraint which was only minutes away. When they got there, they saw Sam, Alex, Scott, Rose, Nick, Jerry, and Sarah sitting at two tables talking and eating. Then Rose was the first to see them and called to them, “Hey you guy’s. come sit over here.



Then both Amy and Max sat next to everyone and Sarah said, “Amy what happened to you earlier this morning? I heard Max yelled something to the First Sargent, but I couldn’t exactly hear what you said.” “Oh well I had a fever so I stayed in the tent until I felt much better.” said Amy. Then Alex said, “So that’s what happened. I thought you just wouldn’t wake up at all.” Scott said, “Well I thought that you were staying in there because of the wind.” Nick and Jerry didn’t say anything about it, but they changed the subject instead.



Nick said, “What are you guy’s going to do later when you get home?” Then Sarah said, “Well as soon as I get home later, I’m going to watch some TV.” “Yup same here. I don’t really plan on doing anything else after.” said Sam. Soon three hours had passed while everyone was talking. Then Jerry said, “Well what should we do now?”



Then Scott said, “Well I think we should start heading back to the camp site to take down our tents before we forget.” “Yes and we only have an hour left before the bus leaves so we might as well hurry.” said Rose. So they walked back to the camp site to see that some of the other students were putting their tents away and packing their bags. So it took Sam and the others twenty minutes to finish packing. Then the bus arrived twenty minutes later to pick everyone up.



After everyone was on the bus, they took off back to the school. Three hours had passed and everyone arrived at seven o’clock and so some of the students had to either drive home or wait for their parents to pick them up. So then Max said, “I’ll drive you home because its gotten so dark out.” “Yup and my mother must be wondering where I’m at right now.” said Amy. “Where do you live?” said Max.



“Just around the corner there.” said Amy. So Max stopped at Amy’s house to drop her off and then Max said, “Well I’ll see you tomorrow at school ok?” Amy said, “Yup I’ll see you tomorrow.” So then they gave each other a hug and kiss and said bye. Then Amy walked inside her house and Max drove off.



Then Amy’s mom asked, “How was the trip?”

“It was pretty fun really. I hope I get to go on another field trip soon.” said Amy. So Amy went to the kitchen to get something to eat and then went back to her room to watch TV until ten o’clock. As soon as it was ten o’clock, Amy went to bed.



Chapter 5





The next morning Amy woke with a cold and couldn’t go to school. So her mother told her to stay home and rest. At school, Max and Sam wondered where Amy was at. Max said, “I wonder is Amy’s at school. She never missed a day of school.” Sam said, “Should we go to her house afterschool. I don’t think I can make it because I have to go straight home after.”



As soon as school ended, Max went to Amy’s house to see if she was home. Instead her mother answered and said, “Can I help you?” Max said, “Yes is Amy there? I’m a friend of hers.” “Sure, but keep your visit short. Amy has a bit of a cold.” said Amy’s mom. Then Max went into her room and saw Amy laying on her bed and coughing.



Then Max said, “You alright? I didn’t know you were sick.” “Ya sorry. I started coughing in the morning too much. So my mom took my temperature and it was a little over one hundred. Not a worse as yesterday though.” said Amy. Max said, “Well now that I know your alright, I guess I’ll go.” Suddenly Amy said,” “No. I don’t want you to leave! Er… that is… um.”



Then Max said, “If you don’t want me to leave, then I’ll stay for a while longer, but I have to tell my parents. Mind if I use your house

phone? I forgot my cell phone at my house.”

“Go ahead. As long as my mother says its ok.” said Amy. So then Max asked and she said that its ok. Max went back to Amy’s room after he called his parents and said, “They said its ok so I guess I’ll be here for a while. So then both Max and Amy watched TV and talked for a while.



Max said, “What do you want to do now?” “Well I was thinking of playing cards for a little while. Want to play too?” said Amy. “Sure why not.” Said Max. soon Amy fell asleep after playing cards with Max, but he realized that Amy was holding his hand when she fell asleep.. So then Amy’s mother came in and said, “Maybe you should go home before Amy wakes up." “I would.” said Max, “but I don’t want to wake her up when I try to take my hand away.” Then Amy’s mother said, “She wont wake up even if you do move your hand away.” Max said, “Even if that’s true Amy’s mom…” then she said, “Please just call me Samantha.” “Like I said Samantha, Amy thinks I’m staying and I promised I wouldn’t leave her. So I’m sorry, but I’m not leaving until she says so.”



Then Samantha said, “Wait a minute! Does that mean that you two are boyfriend and girlfriend?!” “Yes that’s right. Why do you ask?” said Max. “Well Amy never told me when she got home yesterday.” said Samantha Max said, “Well maybe she just didn’t want to tell you yet. So please don’t bug her about it to much.” “Well alright. As long as I know that she is safe and happy, then I’m alright with it.” said

Samantha. Soon after Amy’s cold went away

while she and Max were asleep. So that’s when Max spent the night at Amy’s house.



Samantha went back into Amy’s room an hour later and saw both Max and Amy sleeping together. Max was sleeping on the floor though. So she left the room to let them sleep and she called Max’s parents to tell them that he is spending the night at Amy’s house. Max’s parents let him spend the night as long as he came home tomorrow. So then Samantha hung up the phone and went to bed to.
