AN INTERVIEW WITH AN ENIGMATIC VAMPIRE

We all have our special friends on Vampire Rave. The ones who make us laugh, teach us and inspire us. Some of these folk are relatively new to VR, some are not so new...A person well known to all of us here on VR is having a birthday pretty soon. This guy loves to play with words, and often is to be found in the forum threads.
I wondered if he would have time to speak to me. I wanted to know if he really devoured dictionaries for breakfast, who he was going to spend his birthday with, and if I would manage to keep up with him during my interview with him, given that this guy knew words that not even Google knew about. Who was it? Why, none other than the enigmatic master of all that is esoteric, the one and only Dabbler.
I made my way to the interview, carrying several thesaurus', a dictionary or two and with Google on standby, I felt I was ready to ask my first question: Who is Dabbler?
He told me: a dabbler is an individual that dabbles in things with limited commitment, I tried to be popular in all the social caste but never felt comfortable (even when accepted). I have a morbid tendency that I need to exercise. I like to see people nudged out of their comfort zones on either end of the spectrum radicals, or ultra-liberals I don't take sides.
...and at that, I smiled. Dabbler was pretty cool. He liked to play devils advocate in the main forums sometimes, drawing out reference after reference (and the ocassional swear) from the resistant-avoidant types who claimed all sorts of supernatural talents. Dabbler merely wanted to know what the truth was. I simply had to know if Dabbler himself had any unusual abilities he hadn't told us about?
He said...a dabbler is interested in practical applications for what people claim to be supernatural abilities, or talents. though I personally accept rational explanations for what others insist are paranormal..
Ha! I really should have known...Dabbler had given me a cryptic answer there and so left it up to me to decipher the riddle of whether or not he was just an ordinary man...perhaps I would never know the answer to that! Dabbler liked a certain air of mystery, but one thing I did know was that he had a very special lady in his life. I wanted Dabbler to tell me about her and I wondered what they would be doing for Dabbler's birthday this year?
Dabbler smiled and told me: I met Vampire Bonnie here on VR, she swept me off my feet, I came to VR 3 years ago as a refugee from Darkyria (A way lame site).
Never expecting to meet the love of my life, and that love has only bloomed since.
as gray candles melt
close my eyes and make a wish
for cake served risque'
Now, that was a great answer! A true romantic after all. I thought it only fair to ask Vampire Bonnie about the awesome Dabbler and this is what she told me:
My first conversation was with Dab in a main forum thread with the topic of The Loch Ness Monster...yes, we debated Nessie and he frustrated me to the point of fascination. I was bound and determined to get to know what made this man tick. Well....lets just say, the rest is history ;)
He continues to amaze me at his memory skills of more facts than my brain could ever hold, his very strong and yet secretly sweet side, and his ability to describe things with words like an artist paints with a paint brush.
Yes, yes I do admire my Dabble Do.
And with that being said, I wish him a very happy birthday and a year ahead of adventures!
~VampireBonnie~
They were the Bonnie and Clyde of VR, partners in rhyme...
Dabbler was easier to interview than I had imagined. I had imagined that I'd be left floundering whilst he reeled off Haiku, after Haiku and tossed acrostics wily-nily into every sentence, but instead, I found myself nodding at his obvious love of words, his sweetness and I could never imagine a cross word ever being uttered by the Dabbler (unless of course, it was the breakfast crossword which was assimilated along with his daily omega 3 and 6).
Time was running short so my last question was this: what is your greatest passion in life Dabbler, what inspires you?
My greatest Passion. To be a catalyst, and inspiration for people who seek to break the monotony, and humdrum of life.
I could only smile at that. As always, the testimony had been a sheer delight. It had been a great interview. I was truly enlightened. I thanked Dabbler for his time and wished him a very Happy Birthday, which was (in Dabbler's own words)
11 - 28 - 1971
You are 14242 days old.
That's 2034 weeks and 4 days.
Which is 38 years and 362 days, including 10 leap years.
(= 38 years, 51 weeks and 5 days.)
Therefore, you are approximately 39 years old

In the beginning there was no Goth, and then Cancer spoke: Let there be Acrimony! And right away, there was darkness. Cancer saw that the darkness was good and so he created the Dark Network out of the dark. That was the first day.
On the second day, Cancer created VR Towers and Vampire Rave. Out of nothing, he created a beautiful world full of all things dark. Cancer stood back and admired his creation. Cancer saw that it was good.
On the third day, Cancer organised the various sections of Vampire Rave. He created special places within the Dark Network to place all the Houses, Covens, Alliances and Mentorships. Cancer smiled because it was good.
On the fourth day, Cancer put the finishing touches to his Dark Network. He set out the ToS and made the Dark Network a special place where all manner of dark beings could exist happily ever after. Cancer was pleased.
On the fifth day, Cancer created all the Admins: Consuls, Regents, Master Vamps, Sentorans, Procurators, and the Dominars. Cancer saw that the Administrators were good and so he gave them special powers.
On the sixth day, Cancer created vampires. These vampires were beautiful creatures all made in Cancers own image from all things Goth.
On the seventh day, Cancer rested...
...and thats when the trouble began.
First, some of these vampires decided that they would like to be lycans, demons, witches and other-kin. Secondly, some of these creatures had a little knowledge and a lot of ego, and so knew that they were without status. They looked around for ways to cheat the System. These creatures did not know that Cancer saw them cheat, lie and steal. Cancer was not pleased, the world he had created had been invaded by Morons.
Many vampires lived long and prosperous lives however, some reaching the Immortal level of 200 and over. Others fared less well because they did not have the wisdom to put time and effort into raising their status. Sometimes the vampires fought with each other about rates and blocks but Cancer had given them free will to use all the options, and so the Admins often sat back and laughed when drama broke out. Cancer laughed too.
Sometimes, Cancer himself walked amongst the vampires. He gave them places to have discussions or write their journals, he gave them games to play, and sometimes he even told them stories. Most of the time, the vampires behaved well. They joined societies, made friends and wrote beautiful stories or poems and worked hard to make Cancer proud.
When the vampires behaved badly, the Admins dished out great put-downs and firm warnings or sent them to Purgatory to spend the rest of their days. Usually that brought the sinners back into line, but, the Morons' egos demanded that they be worshipped so much so that the ordinary vampires made idols out of them and were drawn into their drama and battles. Cancer sighed, and the Admins became annoyed.
The Admins had learnt about these Morons from Cancers' Book of Revelations, the Message Gems. On the day of reckoning, these Morons would stand in front of Cancer at VR Towers, and in a dark place, would go before Cancer to beg his forgiveness. Cancer asked them if they had sinned and when they lied, he banished them forever from the Dark Network. Cancer was a fair and just Prince but he took no shit.
In the end, the vampires began to see that Cancer had sacrificed his only spare time for them so that they could live in the Dark Network where the love of Goth is good.
Here endeth the lesson.
Amen.
Goth is good.
INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE DOMINAR

One of the busiest sections of VR is the Forum. Being such a hive of activity means that there is a need to administer and maintain the posts that VR users make and this task is the responsibility of the Dominars chosen by Cancer. It stands to reason that these Dominars need infinite patience, a good sense of humour, and probably have to give up even their sanity to maintain law and order in the Forum, where now and then opinions clash and humour can take a backseat...Birra is one of these Dominars and I knew I simply had to interview him to find out his views on his VR position, how he finds the time to ever relax, and if his sense of humour ever fails him...
I knocked on Birra's office door..."Feh..." said a voice and I knew insantly it was him. Birra being a man of few words seems to ably convey meanings with words I'm sure are entirely his own but now permeate e-dom (feh, heh, meh), and so I wondered if I'd get him to tell me what I wanted to know. Who is Birra? I asked:
Who? Me? I'm just a guy. I'm pretty much what you see here; relaxed, easy going, not easily upset or offended. I like dinners by candle light, long walks on a moonlit beach, watching the Russian Women's Tennis Team wrestling naked in a vat of pudding... I used to joke that I'm your average guy online - filthy rich, twelve inch penis and I date exclusively European Swimsuit models... but everyone who knows me knows how untrue that is. I mean, I've never been to Europe... sadly, they've all been American Swimsuit models...
...and a few Canadian ones, too.
Heh, I thought, that was a good answer. I then realised something: Birra was so busy, he'd taken to using these short but very meaningful words simply because he juggled work, life and VR (a brilliant idea I thought, I'd better not take up too much of his precious time then) and I next asked him, why did Cancer choose you to be a Dominar and what exactly does a Dominar do?
He thought for a moment and I could see he was being modest when he told me:
I haven't the foggiest idea... on any of that. Really.
Maybe it is all because I invented the words "Heh.." and "Feh.." You can claim I didn't actually invent them, to which I would respond, "Maybe not, but I made them what they are today."
I knew that Birra was a fantastic photographer. I wondered if it was just a hobby, or did he have aspirations to becoming the next Ansel Adams?
Hmmm... Ansel Adams, eh? Probably not. I mean, if I were to become famous for my photography, I would hope the images would be far too offensive to be put in a mass-produced print rack at K-Mart...
As I listened to his reply, I noticed his music collection...Pink Floyd, Talking Heads some seriously brilliant artists there, and what the feh? Oh, I'd better not mention that I noticed the Justin Bieber cd he was using as a coaster for his mega-strength coffee, dude that would destroy his VR-cred right away...swiftly moving on, I probed Birra more...you are the master of innuendo, does it get you into trouble much?
Only online, where jokes tend to not translate well and people take themselves too seriously to find the humor in it.
Justing Bieber? Is that who this is? Hmmm... I think this is Morrigon's anyway... Heh.
I smirked at that, Birra enjoyed a snort and a guffaw as much as the next person. I wanted to know what he did for fun, or if he ever had time to kick back and smell the coffee?
I make the coffee, I drink the coffee, I clean the coffee pot. I like to consider myself "well rounded" in the world of coffee.
What do I do for fun? Well, I like to spray water on sidewalks in winter and make videos of people falling. It's funnier because I don't know them.
It's also enjoyable to cook. I always say, the ability to cook is only limited by bravado and creativity. You can pass off anything as gourmet with the right attitude about it.
Oh, and I really enjoy discussing uncomfortable truths just to watch people react! Like mentioning something like, you exist because your father had an orgasm inside of your mother. Most people never really consider that, but the mechanics of it are, your mom and dad probably had a LOT of sex in their day. Hey, maybe the still do... maybe they are, right now.
Meh, it had been a good interview, but I wanted to squeeze one last titbit out of him. Three words Birra - no, not feh, heh, meh - give me three words that describe you please: mad, bad, lad, or...?
Three words? Hmmm... let's see...
I
Smell
Good.
Gah, I should have known. Birra did use the English language competently after all, how else would he maintain the Forum so well. It was time for me to take my leave. I had enjoyed speaking to him and hoped it wouldn't be too long before he'd completely re-written everyday language, gawd-knows we all needed a break from words of more than one syllable.
You mean like, Heh and Feh? Yeah.. I think I should rewrite the language, for sure! Heh.

Dabbler is an interesting character, isn't he?
We use to be in the same coven before it was disbanded (The Festival of Decay).
