I've been writing a lot recently. I've been a writer as long as I can remember. I've always wanted to tell stories and reach people that way, and over the years I've improved and finished several manuscripts.
But as a historian, something that always amazes me is how long humans have been telling stories. Far beyond the Epic of Gilgamesh, the oldest written work we have, or Homer, who mastered narrative, character development, and literary themes, we have the ancient oral traditions of the Aboriginal Australians that date back to when megafauna still roamed the earth. We have rock art that shows the running of animals and the way humans hunted for food. I don't doubt that those primeval paintings came with stories for children, or that storytelling has been around since humanity developed a conscious awareness of the wider world and a fascination for everything we don't or didn't understand. The first intentional human burial we've found is in a cave in Israel, dated to around 100,000 years ago.
Death and life and mythology and science are all linked together through stories. Humans create, we are a species of creatives and artists. To continue that tradition is such an honour to me, and I wouldn't change my passions for anything.

Its always amazing to think back on the history of humans and our creations, all that we have done and overcome
