Hey hey I'm gloomstalker. I'm a vampire goth who frequents their local goth club and cemeteries. Might document some of my goth history here.
While I'm a 90s child, I wasn't exposed to goth until college when the movie Repo the Genetic Opera came out. I was at the midnight premiere with a friend who told me beforehand that the folks attending this release weren't like the community we had been raised in. I walked into a theatre full of goths, eyes wide, in awe and immediately hooked. But I didn't yet realize this was a way of life, not just a costume they put on for a night. That came a few years later. I'll get to that story another day.
Repo became an instant film favorite for me. I started wearing more black and things like that. But no one in my circles seemed to have heard of it let alone liked it. That changed after college in the town I still live in with its goth club, but until then I felt confused by why this movie had made such an impact on me that no one else seemed to understand.
Now, re-watching Repo feels like reliving my baby bat years. Repo was my version of a fairy goth mother telling me that my lifelong Halloween obsession was something more. Something pervasive and lasting.
Anywya that's what I have for now. Stay punk.
