Fm Gets Her Groove Back

18:43 Dec 28 2009
Times Read: 729

Called my brother on Christmas and he asked me how I was. For the first time in what seems like a lifetime I told him, "I'm good." I don't mean good for the moment, good for the day, I mean I'm really, really good.

Everything seems to be falling into place. I feel like I have my groove. The groove I've been looking for since I left Alaska. I'm in a place in my life where I'm truly and honestly me. There's no expectations to live up to. There's no family pressure to be the Italian Princess. I'm surrounded by people who take me just as I am. People who won't pass judgment upon my actions.

2009 has been a good year for me. I graduated from college, (finally). I got to see my best friend enjoy some of the wonders of the East Coast, (like never ending traffic in D.C.). I got to meet some fantastic women in KY. In meeting those women I saw my friend from AK open up like never before. I moved to Buffalo. And though it was rough in the beginning, I've found a career I love. I may not like my job but, it has given me a confidence in my skills I don't think I could have found anywhere else.

I've had the opportunity to get closer to Otter and develop a true friendship. Hedgehog...just enjoying being closer to him and sharing the cooking responsibilities. :p I'm meeting new people and have been accepted into a group of friends who are more like family. Something I was sorely missing from home.

I've been spending some time looking through my old journal entries. It reminds me of the places I've been and how I've grown. I look back through Reason and Rhyme and find this month I have nothing to write. There's no internal strife or upheaval. Being that most of my poetry is inspired by tragedy, (be it large or small), I have nothing to offer for Dec. '09. I find that's a good thing. Maybe, just maybe, inspiration will finally come from joy.

So I suppose this is my toast to 2009. It's had it's up and downs but in general, it's been a good year. To the final days of the decade I say, it's been quite the ride. Bring on 2010 because the party's just getting started.

I realize it's Christmas and that you're really excited that you got Rock Band but, it's 1am and all I can hear is you pounding on your stupid little pads. Go to bed already!

My Damn Toe

18:41 Dec 22 2009
Times Read: 751

Back in August I was 3 beers in, wearing flip flops, and attempted to hurriedly step onto a wet wooden stage. I say attempted because I stepped on the stage and promptly fell down. I popped right back up thinking I'd hurt nothing except my pride until I looked down. You may find it ironic that being a nurse when I looked down and saw blood...I panicked. I'm ok with other people's blood, my own...not so much.

Anyway, I lost my big toenail to that little accident and now it's not growing in right. Went to the podiatrist to have it looked at. I knew what was coming, and he confirmed it by removing half of the toenail again. So, I'm now back to square two, (square 1 would've involved removing the entire nail again). The only issue is, I have a bit of a bone spur under the nail bed which is making a bump in my nail bed and the nail may not be able to grow over it.

All I want for Christmas? A toenail grown in properly because the next step is full on toe surgery.

Which sucks, but at least you'll have some good friends to help you out and bring you booze.

I was planning on getting my Holiday cards done and out this weekend but, I got distracted by boys. Sometimes fun is more important.

Now I've just got to finish baking the roof pieces for the gingerbread house and find a good icing recipe to use for "glue". That is if I can stay awake. Soooo tired...

Back to School

17:19 Dec 14 2009
Times Read: 770

I hate to say it, but it's time to get back into looking at getting back to school. I think I may have found a college that offers what I want. Going to have to call and make an appointment to take a look around and ask questions.

I knew I was kidding myself when I said I'd take a year off...it takes 6 months of research, applications, and appointments to make sure you get into the school you want and then get the classes you want... The very positive side to all of this is when I'm done I'll work for myself. :)

Ah, The Weekend

07:10 Dec 14 2009
Times Read: 774

Friday kicked off the weekend with an ever so needed day off. Picked up a certain someone from work so we could hang out for the evening. We headed out to Diablo and had a really cool, chill, night. I continued my habit of shutting down the bar because my schedule means staying up until 4am makes sense...what can I say?

Took Chuck home, took Rob home, (who's cute when he's drunk), stayed at Rob's and listened to some awesome music and got very little sleep.

Saturday, got up, got dressed, tried to call out of work, didn't work, ran home, showered, ran to work. 8 hours of work suuuucketh on about 3 hours of sleep. Came home, checked my email, fb, and VR. Headed to bed.

Sunday, woke up about 15 min. before I had to leave the house to get to work by 11am. Why did I volunteer for OT again? Got to work, put in my 12, came home to a still very sick Otter.

Now, time to head to bed "early". I really need a good, solid night of sleep. One more day and I get a day off. It still sucks to have to work every other weekend but, on the bonus side, I get every other Friday off. I just have to learn to stop staying out ALL night Friday night/Saturday morning. :p

The older I get, the wilder I get...curious.
