Wilhelm Reich and the Orgone Accumulator
The Device the U.S. Government Wanted Destroyed
Warning - misuse of the Orgone Accumulator may lead to symptoms of orgone overdose. Leave the vicinity of the accumulator and call the 'Doctor' immediately!"
That would be the controversial Doctor Wilhelm Reich, father of orgone energy (also known as chi or life-energy) and the science of orgonomy. Wilhelm Reich developed a metal-lined device named the Orgone Accumulator, believing that the box trapped orgone energy that he could harness in groundbreaking approaches towards psychiatry, medicine, the social sciences, biology and weather research.
Orgone Energy
Wilhelm Reich's discovery of orgone began with his research of a physical bio-energy basis for Sigmund Freud's theories of neurosis in humans. Wilhelm Reich believed that traumatic experiences blocked the natural flow of life-energy in the body, leading to physical and mental disease. Wilhelm Reich concluded that the libidinal-energy that Freud discussed was the primordial-energy of life itself, connected to more than just sexuality. Orgone was everywhere and Reich measured this energy-in-motion over the surface of the earth. He even determined that its motion affected weather formation.
Orgone Accumulator
In 1940, Wilhelm Reich constructed the first device to accumulate orgone energy: a six-sided box constructed of alternating layers of organic materials (to attract the energy) and metallic materials (to radiate the energy toward the center of the box). Patients would sit inside the accumulator and absorb orgone energy through their skin and lungs. The accumulator had a healthy effect on blood and body tissue by improving the flow of life-energy and by releasing energy-blocks.
The New Cult of Sex and Anarchy
Not everyone liked the theories Wilhelm Reich suggested. Wilhelm Reich's work with cancer patients and the Orgone Accumulators received two very negative press articles. Journalist Mildred Brandy wrote both "The New Cult of Sex and Anarchy" and "The Strange Case of Wilhelm Reich". Soon after their publication, the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) sent agent Charles Wood to investigate Wilhelm Reich and Reich's research center, Orgonon.
Troubles with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration
In 1954, the FDA issued a complaint for an injunction against Reich, charging that he had violated the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act by delivering misbranded and adulterated devices in interstate commerce and by making false and misleading claims. The FDA called the accumulators a sham and orgone-energy nonexistent. A judge issued an injunction that ordered all accumulators rented or owned by Reich and those working with him destroyed and all labeling referring to orgone-energy destroyed. Reich did not appear in person at the court proceedings, defending himself by letter.
Two years later, Wilhelm Reich was in jail for contempt of the injunction, the conviction based on the actions of an associate who did not obey the injunction and still possessed an accumulator.
2007
On November 3, 1957, Wilhelm Reich died in his jail cell of a heart failure. In his last will and testament Wilhelm Reich ordered that his works be sealed for fifty years, in hopes that the world would someday be a place better to accept his wondrous machines.
What the FBI Says
Yes, the FBI does have a whole section on their website dedicated to Wilhelm Reich. This is what they had to say:
This German immigrant described himself as the Associate Professor of Medical Psychology, Director of the Orgone Institute, President and research physician of the Wilhelm Reich Foundation, and discoverer of biological or life energy. A 1940 security investigation was begun to determine the extent of Reich's communist commitments. In 1947, a security investigation concluded that neither the Orgone Project nor any of its staff were engaged in subversive activities or were in violation of any statue within the jurisdiction of the FBI. In 1954 the U.S. Attorney General filed a complaint seeking permanent injunction to prevent interstate shipment of devices and literature distributed by Dr. Reich's group. That same year, Dr. Reich was arrested for a Contempt of Court for violation of the Attorney General's injunction.

Charakteranalyse: Technik und Grundlagen. Vienna: Zelbstverlag, 1933. First edition of this work outlining the theory and technique of character analysis, from an orthodox psychoanalytic perspective Reich's major contribution (as well as the source of a host of body-oriented therapies such as bioenergetics). There is some irony, then, that Reich was forced to publish this work himself when Freud notified him by letter that the contract with the International Psychoanalytic Publishers, of which Freud was the editorial director, had been cancelled. According to Reich biographer Myron Scharaf, Freud's explanation that the political situation in Vienna determined his decision merely hid the fact of Freud's own increasing "distaste for Reich's sex-pol activities" (Fury On Earth, 171).

Character Analysis The Noonday Press, 4th printing, 1963 Paperback, 5x8, , 516 pp, "In this third, enlarged edition, the original text of CHARACTER-ANALYSIS is republished intact. Another section is added expounding Reich's later discoveries. Reich's further study of character led to a comprehension of the biological basis of neurosis and the biopathies and finally to the discovery of the cosmic orgone energy which functions in the living organism as specific biological energy. It takes character analysis out of the realm of psychology and puts it on the firm basis of natural science, in the form of orgone biophysics. It makes understandable a large sector of the social scene by an analysis of the neurosis in social action, in the form of what Reich terms 'the emotional plague.' It presented revolutionary insights into one of the hardest problems of psychiatry, schizophrenia, in the dramatic and moving case history of the first schizophrenic ever treated with orgone therapy. 'For the first time in the history of medicine the emotional plague, which is built and maintained on the fear of the organ sensations, has found its medical opponent. This is our great obligation: To enable the human animal to accept nature within himself, to stop running away from it and to enjoy what now he dreads so much.' -- Wilhelm Reich." In August 1934, without warning or explanation, Wilhelm Reich was expelled from the International Psychoanalytic Association. The provocative originality of Reich's work in the years to follow would irrevocably distance him from Freudian psychology. But the result was an extraordinary widening of his scientific interests, scrupulously documented in these journals and letters. ISBN: 0374112479

MIND AND BODY
The Mind and Body are the most important research equipment in orgonomy, for without them all other equipment is useless. Wilhelm Reich began with this in understanding the human character to formulate character analysis and vegeo-therapie by observing the whole person as as an integation of the mind and body as one and not separate. The human being is a sexual organism and Reich discovered that an impeded sexual gratification and the inability to relax consciousness during an orgasm coralated to a disfunction in character as seen in psychoanalysis. Memory of trauma were found to be stored in the musculature of the organism and much easier to release through the musculature and the mind than to only deal with the mind as psychoanalysis had for many years. It is truely the beginning of the study of orgonomy. Through the freeing of armor also came a perception shift in relation to man and his surroundings. Allmost all of the body-psychotherapy practices of today are founded on Wilhelm Reichs work in this area of study in the 1920's. Wilhelm Reich formulated a list of the rules of basic research . Reich's major claim is: "In reality I have made one single discovery; the function of the orgastic plasma pulsation." by W.R. This is observed from the microscopic studies, the the human character to the cosmic merger of energy streams in the universe. Research instuments are only an extension of our body's ability to perceive. If our body has impeded flow of energy within it then our perception is also impeded.

MICROSCOPE (BIONS)
Reich's Microscopes...(3000x +) used as a light microscope studying living motile objects...(it is crucial to examine the medium in hydrous solution and observe over long periods of time, some time over several weeks. Reich photograhed observations with a custom made high speed and othe special photographc film recorded effects. The development of pulsatory characteristics from non-livung medium to sapa-bions can only be observed under these protocols.)

ELECTROSCOPE
Check any science catalogue ; ask your local schools for a catalogue. This is a very common instrument used in physical sciences. It is operated by creating a charge on metals (gold leafs and other designs) that will repel each other while charged and will not repell when there is no excess of a + or - charge. The rate of discharge is the measurment recorded at many intervals throughout the day. Reich used this with other instruments to measure changes in the atmosphere and in the accumulator. Measurements were taken over several months , even years that showed a direct correlation with the weather changes. Additional instruments to record temperature changes from within an accumulator and one from within a control box will demonstrate a relationship to weather changes and the electroscope. In addition recording humidity changes would be useful along with records of solar activity affecting earth.

VACUUM TUBE AND ORGONE ENERGY (Vacor Tubes--by Reich)
GEIGER MULLER TUBE METER
Check any science catalogue ; ask your local schools for a catalogue. This is a very common instrument used in physical sciences but also usually very expensive. This instrument was used by Reich to measure the effects of orgone energy. Orgone energy reacts to various forms of electromagnetic radiation particularly high voltage, x-rays, radioactive material and ....
Reich's experiments used two gieger counters. Place one in an orgone accumulator and record clicks per minute over a period of weeks. The accumulator should show over a week or more a change in the amount of clicks per minute. Also record measurements daily at a variety of locations near and further from the accumulator. The control geiger counter should work as normal while the one that has been affected by being charged in an accumulator will give unusual counts per minute.
Also read more of these experiments in the "Oranur Experiment" by Wilhelm Reich.
MOTOR FORCE OF ORGONE ENERGY
This device was triggered into operation by using Vacor tubes which had a vacumn and curved metal plates opposing within the tube and connected to electrodes on the exterior of the tube. These were at times charged in an orgone accumulator and later showing unusual displays of light which were not seen when charged with some electrical voltage. These tubes and the use of them were similar to a geiger counter tube. More on the motor can be obtained from literature available at the Wilhelm Reich Museum in Rangeley, Maine.

HOW TO BUILD AN ORGONE BLANKET OR PILLOW
by Jamerling Ogg © 1995
Note: Wool is best to use in areas that get humid or in damp enviroments. Cotton is fine for very arid zones of the world.
Substitute wool for cotton below. (You can get wool blankets to cut up. Acrylic/polyester blankets work well too.)
First, this is an easy orgone accumulator to build. Anyone can do it with materials that should be available at most places around the world.
Materials needed are: a) rolls of cotton/wool b) rolls of steel wool c) cotton fabric for a pillow case.
A double layer consisting of a layer steel wool and a layer of cotton/wool. is also known as a "fold" in orgone accumulators. One can make this blanket or pillow size accumulator with as many "folds" as their fabric will allow. The fabric used to enclose the accumulator should be fairly thin fabric like that used on a pillow case.
To constuct an orac the size of a pillow, one should start making alternating layers of steel wool and cotton/wool. Make sure that the square footage size of each layer is slightly smaller than the size of the pillow case so that it may be inserted into the pillow case when all the layers are done. Be sure each layer is thick enough so that the layer below can not be seen though the upper layer. Generally a three to five "fold" accumulator is ample to fit into a pillow case. Be sure to have the steel wool as the bottom layer and the cotton/wool as the top layer.
When construction is complete please be sure to follow these important instructions and cautions of use as given in Wilhelm Reich's literature.
1. Always have the steel wool side facing what ever you are using the accumulator on.
2. Do "not" use near electrical fields. Some examples are: televisions, microwaves, flourescent lights, and any high radiation such as xrays or nuclear radiation.
3. It is not recommended to use accumulators during rainy weather, heavily clouded weather, and smoggy or hazy weather.
4. Do not sleep with this as if it is a pillow. Use it as a blanket pad. If used on your body it was recommended by Wilhelm Reich to be used no more than two times a day for less than 45 minutes. We make absolutely no medical claims for this device. We make this information available for use of research only. Accumulators can be used to detect a temperature differential from the inside verses the outside which may vary depending on atmospheric conditions. Research of other variables connected accumulators such as magnetic effects, humidity, electroscopes, and a variety of other factors that may be deemed appropriate by the researcher to be useful in further understanding in how and why the accumulator works. .

INTRODUCTION to ORGONOMY, PORE and WILHELM REICH
What is Orgonomy and Who is Wilhelm Reich
GLOSSARY of Orgonomy terms
WHAT IS ORGONE ENERGY? by Charles R. Kelley, Ph.D. ©1962 (update by author July 1999)
Wilhelm Reich was the scientist who discovered orgone energy and developed the science of Orgonomy. He was born in 1897 and died in 1957. His scientific work spans the period from the 1920's through the 1950's. He spend most of his life scientifically researching the basic truth that underlies the character makeup of man and how it relates to his environment. It may take years for the knowledge discovered by him to be accepted as it was for Galileo to have the world understand that everything did not revolve around the Earth in space. Orgonomy is the scientific study of orgone (life energy) energy in living organisms, the earth, and the atmosphere as well as outer space. Orgone energy is best described as a pre-atomic (mass-free) energy. Its natural flow is vital to a healthy individual as well as life on earth.
Orgonomy is a science created by Dr. Wilhelm Reich who lived in Austria, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, New York, and finally Rangeley, Maine from 1944-1957 until his death. Orgonomy covers many topics but begins with the theories of neurosis in humans as they are related to the natural flow of life energy being blocked in the body by traumatic experiences in life. Many also caused sexual impotency. Dr. Reich worked closely with Sigmund Freud during this work and the results are written in his books "The Function of the Orgasm - 1927" and "Character Analysis - 1933". Vegetative-therapy (Reichian therapy) was developed and created by Dr. Reich in the 1920's to 1930's and it is used in part by many of the current therapies practiced today such as gestalt therapy, bioenergetics, rolfing therapy, and primal scream therapy to name a few. His study of neurosis was applied to the masses in his work "The Mass Psychology of Fascism - 1933", "People in Trouble - 1936" and also in his books titled "The Invasion of Compulsory Sex-Morality - 1931", "The Sexual Revolution- 1935", "The Murder of Christ - 1951" and "Listen Little Man -1948". His work continued in the area of "The Bion Experiments" -- creation of life from inorganic matter. "His work continued with further studies into orgone energy (also known as chi, prana, and other eastern names). Wilhelm Reich performed several scientific experiments that objectified the presence of orgone energy - "The Cancer Biopathy - 1948". Many of his articles were written in journals including "Annals of the Orgone Institute", "International Journal of Sex-Economy and Orgone Research", "Orgone Energy Bulletin", and "Core" (Cosmic Orgone Engineering).......... as well as the book "Ether God and Devil / Cosmic Superimposition - 1951". He created instruments to accumulate orgone energy (orgone accumulators which speeded up natural healing of the body). He experimented with the reaction of orgone energy with nuclear radiation "The Oranur Experiment - 1951" which demonstrated the significant health dangers of low level radiation. He also created instruments that could return self-regulation to weather (the cloud buster) "Contact With Space - 1957". He did research on the source of ufo's energy, and discovered a motor force from orgone energy. He should be remembered most for his work for children. Through the entire period from the 1920's through the 1950s , he advocated for natural child-birth, natural parenting, self-regulation and for the sexual rights of youth and adults. .

Due to a criminal contempt of court charge in 1956, he was given a 2 year jail sentence. He began the 2 year sentence in1957. The xontempt of court charge was a result of an associate who didn't obey an injunction by the court in 1954 -- forbidding the transport of orgone accumulators across state lines --. This court ordered injunction was issued by default. Reich wrote a response via a letter to the Judge at the federal court in Portland, Maine.. Since Reich didn't actually go to court to contest the injunction, a default was isuued allowing the Decree for Injunction to become a formal Injunction as issued by the court. The Decree and the Injunction were initiated and sought for by the FDA (U.S.Food and Drug Administration). The court trial is a one of a kind with intrigue involving W.R. being prosecuted by his previous lawyer. Correspondence between Wilhelm Reich and the Airforce, the CIA, the FBI, were mentioned and made public during the trial. The court trial 1954-1956 resulted in W.R. being sentenced of 2 years in jail for "criminal contempt of court" and fines levied on W.R. and the Wilhelm Reich Foundation. He died in jail in 1957 a few months before a possible release from prison on parole if W.R. agreed never to work or write about Orgonomy again.. The journals and all his personal effects were never released from the jail authorities to his family members even after being requested. The (FDA) was allowed to burn his books in incinerators in NYC on at least 2 different times; once in the 50's and once in the 60's.
Reich's work continues today through the valiant work of a few scientists and individuals world-wide. Pore's web page on the internet gives more info about the present and past work. Microfilms of most of his written work can be found at some universities in several states in America and a few other libraries in the world. Libraries have an interlibrary loan system that allow his books to become available to most. His estate called the "Wilhelm Reich Infant Trust Fund" is located in Rangeley, Maine at PO Box 687 and they continue to publish his works of writing and operate his home as a museum and the land as environmental exploration area for youths. There is much more about him that is impossible to write here in a short form. I can suggest to those who would like more information, that you read some of the many books he wrote in his life time.

MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR
PORE is what grew out of the organization known as "Students for Orgonomy" from 1975 thru 1977. The director and editor of PORE is Jamerling Ogg. Ogg graduated "Magna Cum Laudi" from the University of Southern Maine B.S. Edu. in Jan 1981 with 178 credits including 58 credits above requirement in order to get a more balanced and broadened educational background of diversity the arts and sciences. He has worked with adolecents behaviors for over 2 decades including several years of alternative education. Mr. Ogg has twenty years of experience in Public and Private Education as an educator since 1981. Mr. Ogg is an educator, boat builder, and parent. He has completed personal Orgone therapy between 1981 and 1999 under the guidance of Harold Streitfield and later with Stephen Simonian -- both being orgone therapists.
Mr. Ogg was on the board of directors and vice-president of "Students for Orgonomy" (SFO) from 1975-1977. He performed several of the experiments in Orgonomy including Reich Blood test, orgone accumulators, electroscope, orunur experiment, cloudbusting. and several other of Reich's experiments. He taught a university level course during spring semester of 1975 on Wilhelm Reich, called "Psychosomatic Nature of Man" at the University of Southern Maine. Participants in the course met with several people who were involved with Reich including Mary Higgins, Dr. Raphael, Bill Moise and Eva Reich M.D.
Students for Orgonomy - a non-profit group formed in 1975 and members-directors were part of a University of Southern Maine class in 1975. The class was taught by Roger Hutchison and Jamie Ogg as co-teachers. The class consisted of about 8-10 students and most were also were members of the SFO board of directors. This group proposed a large conference at the Saddleback Mountain in July of 1975. It was the first conference on Wilhelm Reich since his death to be held in Rangeley. It was a momentous occassion and the Rangeley Highlander (local paper) carried the opposing comments by the WRM and SFO with full page coverage. It turned into a smaller conference at the Rangeley Inn with keynote speaker Eva Reich. It still took place in July 1974 about 33 years ago. It was a success and C.Grier Sellers was a participant in the audience as were about 20 others...maybe more. No one was banned from the conference. The USM class (Psycho-Somatic Nature of Man) members were all invited to a conference at the WR Museum in the fall of 1975 except Roger Hutchison (he was banned by the WRITF for involvement with Eva Reich during the above court trial and other reasons that they truly must know themselves). The students invited were the sole attendees of the first conference put on at the Museum in October 1975 since Reich death. Two conferences in Rangeley in the same year and none for the 15 past years since Reich had died. What precipatated the Museum to hold one after one was already held that summer? Was it because they felt they need to move forward after a few students managed to do what they had not for all those years. Was it a reaction that Eva Reich with the help of SFO had presented 2 meetings that year in the spring and the summer in Rangeley without the Museum's blessing? It was with the request and diplomatic communication of one of the SFO board members that MBH allowed the possiblity of a meeting of the students at the Museum. Again the SFO group had changed for the better the museum's public exposure to open the doors again. Thank you Brad Libby who was a member of the SFO and was able to convince MBH to be open to a confence at the museum. At the October conference at the Museum Dr. Raphael presented the topic "Orgonomic Functionalism". After the lecture the students Dr. Raphael and Higgins sat around a table and all students including Jamie Ogg gave criticism and suggestions to the museum which over the next 10 - 15 years the Museum used and changed things and adapted to them. Some were opening the museum for longer hours than only 2 hours a week and others were to re-organize the equipment to make sense, have summer conferences, invite students, demonstrate accumulators and many other comments. In the spring of 1975 Kevin Hinchey was an attendee to one of the SFO evening presentations in Rangeley with Eva Reich as speaker at the local church downtown. At that time Eva was not welcome at the Museum. Kevin Hinchey too was critical of the museum and seeking changes. He was critical several years ago too yet now his heart "appears" to have changed. Only he would know for sure. Now the museum again reacts to criticism but in an apparently obtuse fashion. Jamie has always supported the good the museum has done and when it does things negative, HE SPEAKS TO THEM TOO.
Mary Boyd Higgins and Chester Raphael, M.D. were very kind to have arranged an "Orgonomic Functionalism" conference during the fall on October 4, 1975. The conference was designed specifically for the students of theis class. This was the first conference held at Orgonon in Rangeley since Reich died in 1957.
I have always been critical where needed and supportive when appropriate of the WRM/WRITF ever since knowing of them in 1974. My major criticisms are of the re-translations of the originally approved by Reich "Wolfe" versions of his books; the treatment of the children of Reich by the WRITF via legal actions, and the difficulty the WRM/WRITF are making for those to have access to archives and information for research. These actually date back to December 1974 when I was allied with Eva Reich in her court case vs. WRITF. For the record: My involvement and support. Member of group (SFO) to first present a conference in Rangeley since Reich's death - (Eva Reich Speaker April and July 1975) Member of first conference at WRM in Rangeley since Reich's death - (Dr Raphael speaker October 1975) First member of "Friends of the Reich Museum" 1970s Created (web design and posted and maintained ) for WRM/WRITF their first Bookstore Web Catalogue via at PORE's website 1990s www.orgone.org Donated financial support many many times when a call for support was requested by MBH - WRITF/ and Friends of WRM. Operate PORE since 1978 and on web since 1995 and allow links to all groups involved in Orgonomy so others can learn and share from one another.
The PORE web pages were first created in May 1995 containing only one web page and now comprises over 200 pages. Pore is a way of sharing with the world community. It is a an organization for networking information with others in Orgonomy. PORE was created in the spring of 1978. Mr. Ogg nurtured the idea over the years, went to many orgonomy related conferences and participated fully in Reichian therapy. He worked as family teacher in group homes 1983-1984 and taught 9th grade in public and alternative schools from1984-2000. In the fall of 1994, world technology advancements allowed the growth of PORE to become feasible through the internet and the web. In May 1995 Pore made its first appearance on the internet web as the first web site with comprehensive information on Wilhelm Reich.
Exchanging and using information hands on is what learning is all about in the world. Today mankind can now communicate instantly world wide with each other. The whales have done this for thousands of years. I look forward to nurturing PORE so it can fulfill its purpose. I presently spend quality time with my young children, direct PORE, operate a home computer consulting business, and rent small boats during the summer.

Microbes Deep Inside the Earth by James K. Fredrickson and Tullis C. Onstott
Microbes Deep inside the Earth; October 1996; by Fredrickson, Onstott; 6 page(s) Single-celled organisms--bacteria, fungi and protozoa--thrive on all parts of the earthÆs surface. Their habitats range from the boiling hot waters of thermal springs to the pleasantly cool soils of backyard gardens. Microorganisms provide essential services to other creatures by decomposing waste products and forming nutrients. Some microbes also inflict harm by infecting higher organisms and causing disease. Fortunately, scientists have learned to control many of those damaging effects and to expand on the ways microorganisms benefit humankind. Although people have used the metabolic activities of microorganisms for thousands of years to produce cheese, wine and bread, it was not until the mid-20th century that scientists harnessed microbes to create antibiotics and other pharmaceuticals. Today people also employ microorganisms for such diverse tasks as controlling pests, treating sewage and degrading oil spills. With countless novel uses still awaiting discovery, biologists continue to scour the surface of the earth in search of microbes that might prove valuable in formulating new drugs or improving industrial processes. But until recently, few such bio-prospectors thought to look deep inside the earth. Long-standing scientific dogma held that this realm was essentially sterile. But that belief, as it turns out, was wrong. File size: 390 KB

Cloudbusting is the use of an instrument invented by Wilhelm Reich to facilitate changes in weather. Pore has received various requests on how to build one of these instruments. No specific construction plans schematics have been provided by any orgonomy groups that we know of. However Wilhelm Reich had several built by Southworth Machine Co. in Portland, Maine in the 1950's. They did have some drawn up plans but the company has since gone out of business. Most have been custom made by various CB operators. It is highly advised that you purchase the following information written by Wilhelm Reich which describes many of the varied operations and their effects on the weather during his research into this field of work. Cloudbusting work can be dangerous to the health of the operator if proper cautions are not adhered to during the operation of the device. In addition inproper use of this instument can result in catastrophic effects including violent weather, loss of life, and environmental damage. See some description of this contained in the student discussion with Reich's cloudbuster operators Eva Reich and Bill Moise.. More information on the dangers of operations and precautions are also found in the below writings by Wilhelm Reich. A correct understanding and an ability to perceive and/or feel orgone energy changes in the atmosphere is paramount for gentle and predictable results.
http://www.rangeley.org/~wreich/Cat/photographs.html
http://www.rangeley.org/~wreich/Cat/photographs.htmlThe publications "CORE (Cosmic Orgone Engineering) July 1954 Vol. VI Nos. 1-4" and "Contact with Space-1956" by Wilhelm Reich are a good starting point. These books are available from the Wilhelm Reich Museum Bookstore at PO Box 687 Rangeley, Maine 04970 or check the archives of a university library. "Contact with Space" has also been published in Germany in 1996. Be cautious with cloudbusting work as several operators of this device have had health problems and injuries related to the use of these instruments. It is paramount that those doing work in this area share their planned operations so that they don't unintentionally retard or increase an operation someone else may be doing nearby.
Also check out the following web page

RULES TO FOLLOW IN CLOUD ENGINEERING
by Wilhelm Reich
published by Orgone Institute in "CORE" July 1954 Vol. VI Nos. 1-4; appendix A"
1. Shed all ambition to impress anyone.
2. Never play around with rain making or cloudbusting. The OR envelope which you tackle while "drawing" energy from the atmosphere is an energetic continuum of high power. You may cause twisters. You may stir a forest fire into the wrong direction. You may do other damage without intending to do so. Never do anything unless you must.
3. If experimenting: it is important to observe and know why you are doing what, that you can achieve immediate results. Slowly growing comprehension will secure later results safely.
4. In cloud engineering you do not " create rain," - you do not " destroy clouds," - briefly, you are not playing God. What you do is solely helping nature on its natural course.
5. Have your equipment, truck, etc. especially all metal parts well grounded into water, preferably flowing water. Lack of grounding imperils your organism.
6. Do not let workers draw OR energy any longer if they become blue or purple in their faces or feel dizzy. Exchange the workers; let them rest far enough way, and have their faces and arms always wetted down with fresh water.
7. Do not hold on to pipes or other metal parts while you draw OR. Always use a separate plastic or wooden handle to move equipment while drawing. Have your hands always well insulated with rubber or heavy cotton gloves.
8. Have signs put up in such a manner that no one is hurt by OR charges. Do not let people stand close by. Among them may be men or women who are ill and would run some danger to their health.
9. Never " drill a hole " into the sky right above you unless you aim for a long drawn rain.
10. When you feel a breeze or wind setting in due to your operation, stop drawing if the wind direction becomes too strong or even if it acquire the appearance of a twister.
11. If you wish to remove DOR clouds, draw in direction of run of OR envelope.
12. If you wish to DESTROY clouds or to stop rain, aim at center of heaviest clouds.
13. If you wish to make clouds grow heavier, draw from the vicinity of the smaller clouds, and have the large or heavy clouds undisturbed.
14. If there are no clouds in the sky and clouds should be created, disturb the stillness or evenness of the OR envelope all around you by brief, sweeping draws and draw mainly against the run of the OR envelope. To create clouds you must create differences of OR energy potentials.
15. ( by PORE ) Under no conditions should you have any electrical wires, electrical instruments of any kind, or any radioactive material near a cloudbuster during any operation. Severe health problems may result.
Definition:
Psychologist Wilhelm Reich (1892 - 1957) believed that a mysterious substance which is produced by all organic bodies and is a key factor in maintaining good health. Calling it "orgone," he argued that it became concentrated in the genital region during an orgasm and then redistributed afterwards - thus, a failure to have proper orgasms would lead to a general imbalance in the body's orgone levels.
Around the year 1940, Reich started to sell something he called a "Orgone Accumulator." This device was supposed to soak natural orgone out of the air and then send it to a person, who sat inside. In 1954 the FDA discovered this and other, related items he was selling and ordered him to stop. Because he refused, he was prosecuted and sentenced to jail in 1956, where he died one year later. Even to this day he has fervent followers are who convinced that he was a medical pioneer who was persecuted.
The Quest for Free Energy
From the dawn of the industrial revolution to today, enthusiastic inventors - from Nikola Tesla to Joseph Newman - have made the claim for free energy. So where is it?
Where I live, gasoline costs about $1.59 per gallon, electricity costs a little over 9 cents per kilowatt/hour, natural gas costs about 63 cents per therm, and home heating oil costs a bit over $1 per gallon. For an average family with two cars and teenagers who take hot showers at least twice a day, those fuel expenses really add up.
But it's an unnecessary waste of money, according to some garage-shop inventors, radically minded theorists, and others who thwart the conventional notions of physics and Newtonian laws. Free energy is all around us and readily available, they tell us. All we have to do is tap into it. And many of these tinkerers say they have tapped into it with various electronic contraptions that, they say, either produce more energy than they consume, or are able to pull free energy from the Earth itself. Nikola Tesla was a proponent of this idea of free energy from what he called the "aether," and there are dozens and dozens of like-minded people who have created hundreds of pages on the Web about these free energy sources. There are so many of them who claim to have working models, in fact, that it's a wonder all of the oil and utility companies are not out of business.
Here's a rundown of some of these energy "geniuses" and their inventions:
Nikola Tesla
In the late 1800s, Nikola Tesla, a Serbian-born scientist who conducted much of his research and experimentation in the U.S., invented alternating current (A.C.), the method by which we use electricity today. That's quite a legacy for a guy who's not very well known among the general population; it seems his accomplishments were largely eclipsed by those of this contemporary, Thomas Edison.
Tesla's radiant energy device was little more than an antenna stuck in the ground.
But later in his career, Tesla also dabbled in more esoteric fields of power generation. According to "Tesla's Fuelless Generator," on July 10, 1931, Tesla told The Brooklyn Eagle, that "I have harnessed the cosmic rays and caused them to operate a motive device. More than 25 years ago, I began my efforts to harness the cosmic rays and I can now state that I have succeeded." Then, in 1933, told the New York American, "This new power for the driving of the world's machinery will be derived from the energy which operates the universe, the cosmic energy, whose central source for the earth is the sun and which is everywhere present in unlimited quantities."
Tesla even obtained a patent for a "radiant energy device," we're told at "Nikola Tesla's Radiant Energy System." It was an electricity-producing device that consisted, more or less, of an antenna stuck in the ground. I could not discern from the site whether or not Tesla ever actually built the device or demonstrated that it worked, although doing so is one of the requirements for obtaining a patent -- at least it is today. And according to Tesla's Electric Car, he even powered an automobile with A.C. current, but no batteries. No one knows quite how the car worked.
Tom Bearden
Tom Bearden says it took him over 30 years to discover the "magic principal" of tapping the vacuum energy, as he explains in his paper, The Final Secret of Free Energy. It's difficult for the layperson to understand what Bearden is talking about in this paper or in an interview he gave in 1991, but the essence is that the classic electromagnetic model as it is generally accepted today is wrong. Free energy is available and attainable, according to Bearden. He seems to have a lot of theories, but again, there's no demonstrable proof. Come on, Tom -- where's the free-energy motor?
Joseph Newman
Inventor Joseph Newman of Castle Rock, Colo. says he's actually created that motor, and he's demonstrated it publicly -- even on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. According to The Energy Machine of Joseph Newman, "The Newman Energy Machine can and will run your home, business, and farm; provide the inexpensive energy to turn salt water into fresh water and a desert into an oasis; eliminate the need for pollution-causing conventional energy sources, reduce the cost of all produced goods, and turn the cost of your monthly electric bills from a deficit into a profit. This technology will totally decentralize our access to energy and literally change the world for the better."
Newman has even put his motor inside a sports car and says it runs on the current equivalent to that generated by a battery the size of your thumb nail. So if it works, why aren't we all driving them? Newman travels the country demonstrating his motor. In fact, his next demonstration is September 12 in Phoenix, Ariz. Keep checking with his Web site for demonstrations in your area.
John Keely
Keely was another inventor who, in the 1800s, experimented with power derived from the aether or ether. There seems to be a growing cult following of Keely that has a very visible presence on the Web at KeelyNet. According to his followers, Keely created such devices as: a machine to split the water molecule for the instantaneous release of tremendous pressures; an engine which was reportedly driven by the flow of aether into its components; an acoustic microscope capable of viewing into the molecular and atomic interstices of matter; a globe which could be made to rotate with no outside source of power as a demonstration of the aetheric flows into matter; a belt device which enabled the operator to induce levitation or gravity in a test mass.
More Free Energy
You didn't realize free energy was so easy to come by, did you? If you want more "proof," just ask these guys:
The Adams Pulsed Electric Motor Generator. Robert Adams, a former Chairman of the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers, Inc., U.S.A. has built a motor that, he says, is "a device that converts the perpetual motion of sub-atomic particles, known in physics terminology as 'particle spin,' into conventional electric power. It is a widely accepted fact of physical law that sub-atomic particles are in a state of perpetual motion. Anybody who tells you that there is no such thing as perpetual motion is either ignorant or a liar." There's even a picture of Adams' motor on the site, drawings so you can construct your own, and an article on the "conspiracy" to keep the motor from the public.
The Free Energy Page. This site contains lots of pages and links about inventors and devices related to free energy.
Free Energy Pages. Provided here are links to Web sites of companies working on free energy devices, and information on inventors like Newman and Searl who claim to have already built them. Interestingly, there is also a listing of prize offerings from various sources of as much as $100,000 to anyone who can actually produce a working free energy device. The question is, why haven't any of the above-named inventors cashed in?
Orgone

Orgone energy is a term coined by psychoanalyst Wilhelm Reich for the "universal life energy" which he claimed to have discovered in published experiments in the late 1930s. Reich claimed that orgone energy was a "life energy" which filled all space, was blue in color, and that certain forms of illness were the consequence of depletion or blockages of the energy within the body. These theories are considered pseudoscience by many.[1][2][3]
Modern usage
Psychotherapists and Medical practitioners have occasionally used Reich's emotion-release methods, and even his orgone accumulator as part of their therapy.[4] But its use is exceedingly rare, and limited to therapists who have been trained by "Reichian" institutions such as the American College of Orgonomy.
Reich claimed that life was founded upon bioenergetic phenomena, and characterized by the pulsation of bioenergy, as with heart-beat, respiration, and bladder functions. Emotions and sexuality, he argued, also followed a similar basic bioenergetic pulsation, and optimal health necessitated open emotional expression and periodic sexual release of accumulated bio-energy. He measured bioelectrical signatures of emotional-sexual human subjective experiences, using sensitive millivoltmeters, interpreting these as expressions of a specific "bio-electric" life-energy. He later observed and developed objective measures to identify energetic fields around humans and other living forms, including microbes, and claimed the same bio-energy also charged non-living matter, and existed in a free form in the atmosphere. He argued the "orgone" bore a similarity to the older concept of cosmological ether of space. The orgone accumulator was developed as a means to objectively capture this energy from the atmosphere, and later was claimed to have both anomalous biological and physical effects. Reich also designed a device called the "cloudbuster", which he claimed could disperse clouds and produce rain.
[edit] Criticism
Reich's orgone theory is frequently noted as a typical example of pseudoscience in discussions of that subject and has been dismissed or ignored completely by most working within conventional science.[5] Critics also assert that the experiments may have followed scientific protocol, but how the results of the experiments were interpreted is also crucial. His measurements of "bio-energy" could equally have been merely millivolts of electricity generated by normal biological processes (such as, but not limited to, the galvanic skin response). It should, however, be noted that no experiments or tests have been carried to refute Reich's claims.
Some of his critics, meanwhile, insist that Reich's many experiments were seriously flawed in design; that his results have proved unrepeatable when the experiments are properly designed; and that his conclusions were, therefore, untenable. As of 2007, the National Institutes of Health database PubMed, and the Web of Science database, contained only 4 or 5 peer-reviewed scientific papers published since 1968 dealing with orgone therapy. Reich's work and name has become anathema within the academic world. Medical societies and the FDA, eager to prevent alleged health-fraud, lead to a court decision to burn Reich's books which mentioned orgone and discouraged application of his methods by health practitioners.[citation needed] However, starting in the 1960s and increasingly over the next several decades, the growing "alternative health" and "natural healing" movements provided shelter for the belief in orgone.
[edit] Response to critics
Some of his advocates counter that Reich's observations and claims should be regarded as a protoscience rather than a pseudoscience, and assert that Reich's experiments followed the scientific method. Some of Reich's advocates[citation needed] are outright insistent that Reich's experiments are sound, reproducible on the original protocols, and made solid and important scientific discoveries. Comparisons have been made by orgone-advocates to "dark matter" in space, or between Reich's bions and archaea/protocells in microbiology.[citation needed] They state that his findings have been unfairly maligned by non-scientific attackers in the popular press and organized "pseudo-skeptic" organizations (see section below).
Advocates argue that evaluations of Reich's claims require evaluations of the original experiments by persons trained in the natural sciences, in the nature of verification studies, to see if they yield the same results as Reich claimed, and if so, that better-known explanations are ruled out. Along these lines, Reich's supporters point to an accumulating body of experimental evidence. Most of this material is published in non-mainstream research journals, or self-published sources.
Regarding the lack of citations from reliable sources, it is claimed, without evidence, that such large "mainstream" bibliographical indexes routinely exclude these same Reich-oriented journals. An on-line "Bibliography on Orgonomy" was developed by orgone-advocate James DeMeo. Most of those citations focus upon Reich's psychotherapy methods, but approximately half of them address experimentally the biophysical aspects of his claims, such as the microscopical bions, the orgone energy accumulator (studies on lab animals, plant and human clinical studies), various aspects of orgone physics (such as the thermal anomaly in the orgone accumulator, which was dismissed as "solved" by Albert Einstein), and field experiments with the cloudbuster. DeMeo also provides a separate listing of unpublished dissertations and theses as supportive of Reich's theories.
Even the more outlandish of Reich's claims occasionally came under scientific study within mainstream universities. For example the Master's thesis of James DeMeo at the University of Kansas[6] reports positive outcomes from field experiments on one of Reich's most controversial claims, regarding the cloudbuster. His results reportedly demonstrate systematic changes in Kansas weather when it was used according to the original protocols of Reich. A German-language thesis from Stefan Muschenich and Rainer Gebauer at the University of Marburg,[7] replicated effects of the orgone accumulator on test subjects in keeping with Reich's original descriptions, while a control "dummy box" showed no such effects. A follow-up 1995 study, was undertaken at the University of Vienna, by Guenter Hebenstreit,[8] with similar positive results in favor of Reich's claims. One should note, however, that masters' theses are not peer-reviewed, published scientific research, like a journal article; nor are they typically defended before a committee of one's scientific peers as a doctoral dissertation would be.
[edit] Orgone energy in popular culture
An Orgone Accumulator is featured in the Jack Kerouac novel On the Road.
Orgone energy was featured as a means of controlling weather in the Lupin III anime Da Capo of Love: Fujiko's Unlucky Days.
There is a song called Orgone Accumulator in the album Space Ritual by Hawkwind 1973, covered by Pop Will Eat Itself (1986).
"Cloudbusting" is a song by Kate Bush which features the Reich's cloudbuster, a machine which could affect cloud formations, capture 'Orgone' and, to all intents and purposes, make clouds rain. Kate wrote "Cloudbusting" after reading A Book Of Dreams, a memoir by Reich's son Peter. In the music video for "Cloudbusting", a sentimental story told through the eyes of Wilhelm Reich's son, Kate Bush plays the young Peter Reich, who is seen being shown a cloudbuster by his father, Wilhelm Reich, who is portrayed by the celebrated Canadian film actor Donald Sutherland.
The main character robots from the game Super Robot Wars J are powered by Orgone Energy[citation needed].
In Hal Duncan's series "The Book of All Hours", a character styling himself Jack Flash uses "Orgone Bombs" as weapons.
Harvey Pekar mistakes a green house for an orgone box in his 1989 short American Splendor story "The Greenhouse Effect" (Collected in The New American Splendor Anthology)
In the second issue of Matt Fraction's "Casanova", the villain's island lair was powered by Orgone.
In the Diaries of Kurt Cobain, the word "orgones" is written on one page[citation needed].

[edit] William S. Burroughs
Though thought of as a pseudoscience by almost all professionals, the study of orgone was heavily supported and researched by the beat generation author, William S. Burroughs, who is known for surreal imagery in his novels dealing mostly with his life with narcotics, especially heroin. The topic of orgones interested Burroughs not because he had cancer, but because he believed that the method in which orgone energy supposedly helped cure cancer-sick patients could also help alleviate harsh withdrawal symptoms from heroin, which Burroughs calls "junk sickness."
Burroughs compares cancer to a junkie trying to kick the habit in the novel Junky, where he also speaks of orgone accumulators. He writes:
“Cancer is rot of tissue in a living organism. In junk sickness the junk dependent cells die and are replaced. Cancer is a premature death process. The cancer patient shrinks. A junkie shrinks – I have lost up to fifteen pounds in three days. So I figure if the accumulator is a therapy for cancer, it should be therapy for the after-effects of junk sickness.”
At the time that Burroughs was writing, there was only one source to get an accumulator. It was from the Orgone Institute in New York. They didn’t sell or rent these machines; instead, a ten dollar a month donation was required. Burroughs decided to build an accumulator of his own. He substituted rock wool for the sheet iron, but still achieved the desired effect. Burroughs writes about what occurred once he started using the accumulator:
“Constant use of junk of the years has given me the habit of directing attention inward. When I went into the accumulator and sat down I noticed a special silence that you sometimes feel in deep woods, sometimes on a city street, a hum that is more rhythmic vibration than a sound. My skin prickled and I experienced an aphrodisiac effect similar to good strong weed. No doubt about it, orgones are as definite a force as electricity. After using the accumulator for several days my energy came back to normal. I began to eat and could not sleep more than eight hours. I was out of the post cure drag.”
[edit] Jack Kerouac
The orgone accumulator was primarily used as a sex drive boost in Jack Kerouac’s popular beat novel, On The Road, when his character, Sal Paradise along with others visit Old Bull Lee, William Burroughs’s character, in New Orleans:
“‘Say, why don’t you fellows try my orgone accumulator? Put some juice in your bones. I always rush up and take off ninety miles an hour for the nearest whorehouse, hor-hor-hor!’ said Bull Lee… The orgone accumulator is an ordinary box big enough for a man to sit inside on a chair: a layer of wood, a layer of metal, and another layer of wood gather in orgones from the atmosphere and hold them captive long enough for a human to absorb more than a usual share. According to Reich, orgones are vibratory atmospheric atoms of the life-principle. People get cancer because they run out of orgones. Old Bull thought his orgone accumulator would be improved if the wood he used was as organic as possible, so he tied bushy bayou leaves and twigs to his mystical outhouse. It stood there in the hot, flat yard, an exfoliate machine clustered and bedecked with maniacal contrivances. Old Bull slipped off his clothes and went to sit and moon over his navel.”

The Orgone Energy Hypotheses
By Roger M. Wilcox
Last modified 27-April-2001
Orgone energy started out as Reich's explanation for orgone radiation. Reich quickly expanded this theory to encompass practically any phenomenon known to him which had not been explained by conventional "mechanistic" science, and even some which had been explained. Orgone energy was omnipresent, was the stuff out of which all matter was made, was fundamental to all biological processes, and was released in great quantities during a healthy orgasm; the "damming up" of the flow of orgone energy within an organism gave rise to many diseases and all neuroses.
As I mentioned at the start of my critique of orgone radiation, Reich did not always make the distinction between observed phenomena and the theories he used to explain the observed phenomena. Orgone radiation was an observed phenomenon. Orgone energy was Reich's theory to explain the observed phenomenon of orgone radiation. However, Reich often referred to his observations of orgone radiation as orgone energy, and sometimes even referred to demonstrations of one of his orgone energy theories as orgone radiation. Some of his theories about orgone energy, though, were not testable, and thus do not even qualify as "theories" in the scientific sense of the word. And, worse, with some of the qualities Reich ascribed to orgone energy which were testable, Reich's descriptions of these qualities were inconsistent and contradictory.
Organic and metallic substances
Of the few concrete hypotheses Reich came up with about the properties of orgone energy, by far his most pervasive and most often-cited is that orgone energy is attracted to and absorbed by organic substances, but is attracted to and instantly re-radiated by metallic substances. This hypothesis forms the basis of the orgone accumulator (which I describe in a separate critique). Reich's inspiration for this hypothesis seems to have come from his first experience building a box in Norway which allegedly allowed him to isolate orgone radiation from its environment. As a throwaway sentence in his description of building the box, Reich wrote:
"Organic matter could not be used because it absorbs radiation."
— The Cancer Biopathy, ch. III, sec. 3 (p. 90, 1973 trans.)
As I pointed out in my critique of orgone radiation, this is not entirely accurate. Organic matter can absorb some kinds of radiation (e.g. radioactive particle emissions), but not others. Reich took this principle as gospel, however, and decided that orgone radiation — and, hence, orgone energy — would therefore also be absorbed by organic substances.
Reich even built a device in an attempt to "prove" the hypothesis that organic matter absorbs orgone energy but metals re-radiate it. In addition to the orgonoscope and the orgone field meter, Reich described another apparatus, which he did not name, that supposedly detected the existence of orgone energy fields in The Cancer Biopathy, chapter IV, section 4 (pp. 110-112, 1973 trans.) [emphasis in original]:
"Under a glass hood, used to protect the arrangement from air currents, a metal sphere is placed on a cork or rubber plate. We suspend a small piece of cork on one side of the equator of the sphere, at a distance of 2-3 mm., and a small piece of tinfoil on the other side, at the same distance. Neither the cork nor the tinfoil should be touching the iron sphere; both should hang freely. The sphere is connected to an electroscope by a wire."
A picture of the apparatus, labelled Figure 9, appears on the facing page. I cannot copy figure 9 directly from the book, but I have attempted to reproduce it as faithfully as possible here:
O: organic material
M: metallic material
OF: orgone energy field
IS: iron sphere
Attr.: attraction
S: spark to tip of electroscope
Rep.: repulsion
E: electroscope (orgonometer), grounded or not grounded
W: wire connection
