...it was all me after all.
But I digress.
Went to see Lincoln last night. Very good movie, very well done. Spielberg, as usual, didn't go with the expected in dramatizing the parts of the story everyone knows. Instead he focused on the political climate as the nation, and Lincoln, struggled through the horrors of Civil War and the balance between freeing a race of people and setting a democratic example for the rest of the world.
I cried a little. The brutality of the time, the prejudiced attitudes, and the sheer number of lives lost in a war that was essentially over money, power and control....
...but what else is new with our species? Certainly not that.
Daniel Day-Lewis did an amazing job playing the role of Lincoln too. If this isn't an automatic Oscar, I don't know what role would be.
Great holiday with great friends.
Sleepy... but now I need to get this damn furnace working.
I officially have my house to myself again. It's a relief right now to know that.
No heat yet, but that will get solved.
Tiny victories today....
Awesome workout tonight at fight-fit jiu jitsu. One hour of sheer hell kind of a workout. I hit the bags so hard, so much, I can barely lift my arms at this point.
And for motivation, my spotter only needed to say two words....
Lessons learned and/or remembered today:
1. No matter what opinion someone else has about your friends, if they are indeed a friend and they have your back, never turn your back on them.
2. Simplify. Every decision can be boiled down to one question: How will this positively/negatively affect me? Absolutely no one in this world will care about you as much as you should.
I started living that way many moons ago and gave it up for all the wrong reasons. It is time to get back to the simplification of life.
3. Never pay someone $600 to do something you and a friend can do over a case of beer. Especially when that so-called expert turns out to be full of shit.
4. Live as you want to, not as someone else wants you to.
5. Don't be afraid to send someone packing if they are indeed a poison in your life. It is not selfish to say no, and it is not selfish to expect someone to take care of their own shit - especially when they have little to no connection to you, and never have. Generosity with those you love is one thing; being someone's crutch is pointless. Tell them to take a hike.

Not sure who all is coming over for the chili. It could be 20 people. It could be 2.
Regardless, there will be plenty...

Reading what everyone has been saying about this movie, I can't wait till I can watch it. Then again, I have always admired how Spielberg presents a story. More over, I typically agree with how he present morality.
