Is anyone else experiencing lag with almost every internet service provider recently?
So, April 1st.
April Fool's Day.
The day my union's contract gives us a (almost) 3% pay bump for cost of living.
Which, the way the contract is laid out, I only get to keep that increase for 3 months. Because of my hire date, my step increase hits on July 1st, then my pay rate reverts to the contracted step amount, and any cost of living increases get overridden.
I like finally having a union. The health insurance is probably the best I've had since the 90s.
But this contract seems like it was negotiated by someone who has no sense of how a calendar works, and how we need to live.

You would think the step increase would be in time with your hire date and annual review, but no... the way it works is your anniversary has to be at least 6 months from April 1st for that to happen. My hire date was in December, so my step increase happens at the 6 month mark from the beginning of the year of the full year after my hire date.
Makes sense?
So I get my review in December, then have to wait until July for my raise.
Of course none of that was explained when I was hired. It was all explained completely different. My expectations were completely different. So yes I'm a bit salty about it.
