Went back to this location with three tools I lacked the first time- a tripod, a flashlight, and time. Also learned this was a manufactory for women hoses, the thigh high ones made of silk. Years of operation was 1920’s to 1950’s. Spoke to two older town folk and both had family who worked there. One told me that the building was condemned, due to the chemicals they used, the high cost of removal. Funny how it is open in the back, with no signs saying stay out- I swear… none. Privately owned now it seems to have turned into the dumping ground of all the unwanted items in town. I also found a few answers to my questions about all the pipes, boilers, machines. Seems they had their own power plant back in the 20’s. They also ran 24 hours/ 7 days in its prime, found 3 freight elevators, and the building is only half the size it was, land sold as time went by. I was sad to see the scrappers have started on the old machines, large pieces gone with only the concrete slabs they sat on left behind.

Also found a closed hotel, 5 floors with a restaurant in the top floor. While the local lady I talked to said she did not care if I went in- she knew some homeless people were living in it. That set off some alarms in my head so we left that one alone. But I will try to keep a eye on the location, hope to see it up for auction soon.

Then I found a two story old elementary school, been closed for a while by the look of it. We pulled up to the back to find an apartment building right next to it, and a man pulling an unhooked part of the fence that surrounds the area up and walks toward the building. In his hand was a saw, the kind you use to cut pipes. He walks up to a door and walks in, then comes right back out. I asked if he minded if I went in with him, just to take pictures. I don’t care what he was doing.

Cat’s alarms went off with this guy as he said he could not let me in, had to ask the manager. The call I made to the man who was suppose to be the manager had no effect, she put a halt to this location as he walked out of the building and went into one of the apartments. We are thinking of going back to it after some time; go in early on a Sunday. The hunt for the owner might be better, see if I can get in all legal like. We will see.

Anyway- on to the pictures, right?

To the right you see a small amount of an electrical line/ transformer. Most of it was covered in greenery. The place is on the bank of a river, and rail road.

Bathroom tile… must have been such a nice place.

Signs had me a little worried.

Sky lights in the roof-

Made for a wonderful light.

The weak floor catwalk I was easing my way back over this when Cat beeped me on the walkie talkie. I jumped as the noise was so out of place in this quiet tomb like building, really wishing the floor would stop cracking and creaking. She tells me bad storms are coming, I was running out of time. And she was not wrong, within ten minutes of us leaving the town we ran into the thunder storm.

But I had one more place I had to get to- the machines.

Playing with the settings, reason the light is so different in these.

That was the day- good company, learned some history of a town, nice dinner, and I got to indulge my love of dark beauty.

All those pictures are amazing. I love when you do abandoned places. I can't help but imagine what went on there years ago and how the place was so busy with people.

Moonie I am the same- reason I love to do these. That and the little fear you face going into them. Living history. You can stand in these buildings, take a few seconds and see in your minds eye the people walking about, the sound of the machines running. And if you talk to the folks in the towns you hear stories, like we did today.

It is living history, if you let your mind wonder there, see it.

These are absolutely beautiful. I can't help but feel as though you do these old places a good service by preserving their memory in photographs and showing the world how beautiful they still are.

This place was really amazing to see the size and hear how it operated in the past with 1000 employees. The coffins still freak me out even though I do not think they were ever used. It was a lovely old town though and a fun drive with plenty of laughs and TMI. :)

PS-- school guy was carrying a saws all, was not dressed as a workman and was watching us way too closely, then gave you a "Cell" phone number for the manager that I know was a landline number and not cell phones there. I had lots of "hell no" warnings going off there but we can try again. lol

Thank you Otter. :) Birra- I have no clue. A lady we talked to said the owner of the place now would take anything in, used it as a storage catch all. I would believe it as it was full of junk. They are damaged, and it takes a lot to damage them. As in a dozer hitting them as they are dug up. At least that is the story I have in my head. We joked about me getting into one, at least opening it when I told the gals where I was going back to. I just couldn't do it... I could not open them. Just...wrong to do that.

In one of the pictures with the coffins, there are orbs. It's the one where the orange thing's handle is leaning on one of the coffins. Of course it could be dust reflecting the light, but they are only in that one photo that I can see.

These are all so amazing! I love looking at them. Thank you for posting them.

Oh no. I was at a church, giving a estimate on moving. The lady who lived next door to the church had the front of her home lined with these. I asked the lady *who was sitting on her front porch eating lunch* if I may take a few pictures and she said yes. :) It was a wonderful sight- so colorful even in the full sunlight.

Makeup Look- Indain Bridal set. Have been wanting one of these for years. Yes.. it ties into the makeup, I swear. ;) Cat helped me find a great set on ebay that I could afford, that is not one certain color. I can see blues, reds, black, pinks, greens, all kind of looks with this set.

Unedit- to try and show you the eye makeup and the set. The necklace is made for a person with a long neck, not the turkey blob I have. lol

Edit ones:

I see me playing with this set a lot.

Finger was itching to take some photos this weekend so Sunday I went out to two houses I had spotted in town. First one was in bad shape, sits out in a field. Seeing a foot path thru the tall grass/weeds leading into the house I paused outside, to listen, yelled out. Seeing most of the windows was busted out I notice even the metal roof had been striped.

After a few minutes and not hearing anything... I step into the old home. Only to spot empty boxes of over the counter pills, burned old pots, a can of fire fuel. Meth. Yelling out again, I pulled out my cell to make sure I had a few bars and step a little future into the home. The windows and greenery made a nice site to see. The peeling paint, damaged metal frames, the earth taking back what it once gave up.

Such a beauty, trashed now. The wood paneling on the wall gave me a hint of how lovely this home was at one time. I wonder if the fireplace had seen a Christmas mornings with stocking full.

As I would not go into the back of the house, or the basement that had no window or anyway out but the stairs- time to leave.

Next house is covered in trees, bushes. I mean the roof is about all you can see from the road. Took me a little while to push my way in but worth it. It still had personal items, furniture in it. Couch, beds, items in the bathroom. Like they had just left it. Of course the home had been broken into, the normal trashing that happens. The house was dark, really really dark inside, which lead to me not going into each room.

The living room curtains I loved. Such a lovely find in this trashed home, still hanging in their classic beauty. You can just make out the lampshade sitting on the floor.

Happy with these shots, used a hint Otter gave me on darker areas. I tried the same hint on the bathroom but never could get it to take. Had to use the flash to show you the tub/ wall.

Did find one bedroom with a window not covered up by trees. Wallpaper coming off in sheets. These people must of loved color.

Kind of a creepy find-

On the way out...

Beautiful, atmospheric photos. I kept looking at the fireplace after you wondered if it had seen Christmas stockings....so sad to see what had been a lovely house now falling apart...nature taking it back, I like that better!

Edit--

Lipstick is too light so I darken it up to the red it should of been.

Had to do blue eyes as the person has blue eyes with this look.

Thanks ladies. I just can't wear long hair, even in a wig it seems. Too thick of a neck, turkey chin. lol So I just pulled it up.

The look strung from song You and Your Hand by Pink, in the video when she is sucking on a sucker is the look I love and wanted to try. Love the wig she wears, but this was the only red one I had.
