Little Red Riding Hood...with a twist.

22:46 Jan 31 2010
Times Read: 1,138

Little Red Riding Hood makeup look. ;) The Wolf full moon, Wolf Man movie that came out this weekend and the ad at the right side of VR, and Elemental gave me the idea. I also used a makeup look from youtube user name HollywoodNoirMakeup. I needed to bring the "fur" up a little, more toward my eye. And darker fur would of made it better. But it was fun to do. :)

And the unedit picture so you can see what it really looked like in person...

Pictures of the snow. We don't get snow often so when we do.. I just love it. :) No good trees around her to take pictures of- the only ones showing snow is the evergreen. And the cool temp is saying for a few days, full moon tonight. All I need is the ocean/ beach and I would be as close to heaven as I can get.

Sexy Vampire Look

After reading Sahahria journal I wanted to try out this Vampire makeup look that is on youtube. It is done by a young woman who has lead me to many great drugstore makeup with her reviews.

Below is the video, and the pictures of my hand at the look she did. Only a few things I changed- I did not do such a thick black liner as my eyes are not even, ages me to much. :P To be in my 20's again. lol I did use photoshop to give me gray eyes as in the video she used contacts to make hers this color, the colors built around it.

It turned out to be a great look. Give it a try- all you need is a pale foundation. If you don't have one that is light- use your foundation and instead of powder- try some white baby powder. I used a normal foundation with a white press powder myself, just blending well. Rust, brown, ivory, black color eyeshadow with a black liner. :) I did not do the bottom lash color right so I just might have to try this one again. :) Darn. lol

Been lazy of late it seems as I still had my tree decorated for Yule. Yes sir… 25 days into 2010 and I still had a Yule tree. So I was thinking of decorating it for Valentines Day then realized I don’t have any decorations for that holiday. Not wanting to spend a lot of money I took only $6.00 in with me to General Dollar Store. Nothing else some red construction paper to cut out some hearts, right? Came out with some fake roses and dollies in red and white, the white lights always on the tree.

Not bad… not bad at all.

Bonaventure Cemetery. At the back edge of the cemetery we found a wonderful suprise. :)

Then back to Tybee Beach for the sunset. Birdy and I also stop at Hilton Head on the way home as I always got told about the place and wanted to see it. Don't plan to go back, not very friendly for people who don't own land there as far as beach goes.

This is the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. The stain glass windows were stunning. The whole church was stunning; nicest I have ever been in. From the marble floors, blue paint on the ceiling, paintings on the walls, and the flicker of the red prayer candles… it just spoke of a higher power.

I loved Savannah for the trees. The little parks they call squares that hold such history. The old homes with the iron work that the area is famous for. They even built a parking lot around an old oak tree to try and keep the “history” feel to the area, not easy to do with all the shops, hotels, bank, business they share the space. It is the type of place you can put your walking shoes on and spend hours finding beauty. The trick I think is to hit it early- like 7:00 am early. I was awake early to get in line for a table at Paula Deans restaurant and it was wonderful. Little traffic, few people on the street. This is when I was able to take these pictures mostly. Finding the little gardens hidden behind gates, walls of the homes, the sound of water from a fountain leading you on to peep in. It was a wonderful place and one I would love to go back to.

I still have the stain glass church windows and graveyard to edit. :) Dinner first.

Really enjoying the snow outside these past few days and I’ve been thinking of winter make up looks to express what the snow means to me. It is like a blanket, seems the world is just slower, the sounds silent as you walk in the cold crisp air. Been for walks during both day and night so I did a look for both times. I also been looking at some videos on youtube- seeing how others express the winter.

Day:

Have to say I loved and took a lot from a make up tutorial from petrilude called Night Sky. I used a little more silver to reflect the snow.

Night:

Can you tell the white foundation got in my eyes in the first ones? They were stinging like crazy by the time I got done.

Been asked where I get my ideas for make up looks. Anyplace really- mag, online, movies, flowers, dreams. You name it and I have gotten a look from it.

Like today. I was sitting in my bedroom, TV was on to Star Trek Voyager. Started me thinking as I used the foundation that Cat's sis gave me- it was too dark for her. Smashbox- nice enough but Make Up Forever is still the best for pictures for my skin. I also knew I wanted to try the Coastal Scents pallets out to see how they did in photos. Have to say- for the money these pallets are worth their weight in gold. They are just as good as Mac I think. Loooove them!

So back to Star Trek. I had no look in mind when I sat down but the show got me thinking of a space like makeup and here is what I came up with. :)

I need to work on my lines, they need to be sharper. And they are not even- at the nose and shape of the circle below the brow. This type of make up is so much easier to do on a model then myself. But yeah... that was my last two hours. :)

Make Up for your age.

23:02 Jan 06 2010
Times Read: 1,228

Have to talk about a problem most women have- eyes that are not the same. Everyone has a little difference between their eye shapes but some, like me, have more then a little. It can come with age, allergies, skin issues, birthmarks, among many other things. Mine is age- the lid is wrinkled. A lazy eyelid makes it sag, effecting the shape of my eye as well as the eyelash. I also have allergies that swell my eye some days, making it puffy.

Now let’s talk about eyeliner. Yesterday I was at the store and the lady who checked me out was maybe 30 years of age. She was a lovely lady and I took the time to look at her make up and have to say she really should not have lined her whole eye with black liner. Why? One eye was smaller, odd shape at the outer edge due to a large mole. I guess she was trying to draw attention to her eyes but in some cases that is not the thing to do. I made you see the mole more. And honestly- the liner made her look a lot older in the face. I don’t care what you say- make up should reflect your age, at least the every day make up look should. But back to what I wanted to show you. Problem eyes shapes.

Case in point- I will show you my eyes:

Eyes closed and you can see the liner is matching in thickness, shape. You can also see I did not blend the foundation good (top of nose, above the eye on the left side.) Anyway… So you will agree with me they match, right?

Now my eyes open:

Note how the left side eye is different? It is not as round, the lid is heavier, and the top lash is pushed outward instead of upward due to the weight of the lid. This is my problem eye. Some type of eyes you can correct it with just adjusting the thickness of the liner if the eye is not that different in shape. But with my eye- it is too much of a difference to do that little artist trick. On my eye- It is really noticeable in this kind of liner. Reason I do not wear a heavy liner unless I am doing a really “in your face” look for a picture. Cheating note- most of my pictures only show the good eye, the other eye in shadow, turned away a little. Or I do a side view only. If you look at the pictures I have done- you can catch that I am ‘hiding’ the odd shape eye as much as I can. I also had been known to place something on that side of the face- a flower, lace, rhinestones to draw the attention away from the eye.

There is also the use of fake lashes. Fake lashes make the two eyes lashes even, I just place the odd eye one a little higher on its lash line, a way to ‘lift’ my lid in a way. I also use the V darker shade in the outer crease of the eye. I use it to ‘shape’ the eye a little, helping it to match the good eye shape. Example- I use a little less on the good shape eye, little more on the dropped lid/ lazy eye to make them match. It is a sneaky trick but does well for me.

Do I wear liner? Yes. I just don’t use jet black most days. I use brown, blue, green, and a soft black when I do. I also don’t do the outer wing like in the pictures above. I just go to the outer edge, no further. Another trick I use is to keep the liner only half way in from the outer edge of the top lid. I don’t take it into the inner eye/nose area as it shows up the odd shape of my one eye. I also don’t take the bottom lash liner all the way in, only going in half way, using eye shadow buffed down to fill in the bottom lash line. Eye shadow is not as refine as a liner, the smudging of it making it a softer line. This is the ‘liner’ I use, knowing it will not be as harsh as the black liquid liner is.

Point I am making is- Make up is a great tool to use for drawing attention to the good parts of your face. The other side of that coin is- it can also draw attention to the worst parts if you let it. Learn yours, ask questions, and practice with make up to find the look that is best for you. Your face changes with age- your make up has to change as well.

I totally agree, make-up can be a boon to your assets or call attention to the not so pretty parts. I have one eye different then the other as well and it sucks, one lid shows more than the other. Has to do with my stroke I had I think.

I have never used false eyelashes but have always wanted to try them, what brand would you recommend?

Vampirewitch39
Vampirewitch39
23:31 Jan 06 2010

I would try any drug store brand. I have had the high $$ ones, and the cheaper ones. Really- there is no difference. I would start with a medium size length ones- not to long or to short.

Cheaper- better till you see if you want to use them.

MAC website- click on the link for artist in action - they have a video on how to put them on. Lots of steps with how they do it but it will give you an idea.

If you need help with them just ask. :)
