UNSWEET DREAMS16:55 May 19 2013

My parents have a guest bedroom that we refer to as "the pink room". When they bought the house, the bedroom was pink -- and even though the room was painted light grey several years ago, we still refer to it as the
pink room.
My parents collect antiques; mostly furniture, lamps, housewares, and assorted American bric-à-brac from the 19th and early 20th century. Included in their assortment of "old crap", as my father calls it, is a small collection of antique dolls.
Say, friend, have I ever told you how creepy and slightly terrifying I think dolls and clowns are? I haven't? Oh, then, let me tell you.
I shall tell you, dear reader, that -- in no uncertain terms -- I have never liked either of them; neither clowns nor dolls. Clowns are a subject for another day -- but for now, let me tell you that there is nothing creepier than an old, dusty, glass-eyed doll. Especially if it's wearing century-old baby clothing.
And, dear reader, do you care to guess where my parents keep their creepy ass antique dolls? In the guest bedroom. In the "pink room". The pink room which is no longer pink. The pink room, which is now a dull, life-less grey. And my parents keep the dolls clothed in old, faded, antique christening gowns.
The eyes are designed in such a way that the lids close when the doll is placed on its back. This means that when the doll is, say, reclined slightly, the eyes take on a relaxed gaze, half-open or half-closed. They appear to be neither sleeping nor awake.
And the dolls are perched on little antique chairs -- in such a way that they face the bed from each corner of the room, with their little lazy glass eyes staring blankly at the bed.
AT NIGHT.
WHILE YOU SLEEP.
The dolls stare at you.
With their little glass eyes. THEY WATCH YOU.
And every time Mrs Thothy and I go to my parents' house for the weekend, my folks cheerfully announce "you're staying in the pink room!" -- and we quietly die a little inside.
But we want to be gracious so we don't complain. We put our suitcases in the room, and when we are certain that no one can see us: we pick up the dolls and we place them gently in the back of the closet, and cover them with a towel.
And we hope to God their damned eyes stay closed.
Because there was that one night we placed the dolls under the bed... and I was certain I heard something in the middle of the night, like the sound of little tiny hands... quietly smoothing out the wrinkles in an old, dusty cotton gown.

Oh thank god you cover them with a towel too. I was going to tell you that it's necessary to do that in order to quell their vengeful spirits.

I turn then the other way around. That way they've all got each other's backs.

Creepy indeed. I'm afraid I would have to take them out of the room entirely, I watched some movie a long time ago where the toys just stood on each others shoulders and opened the closet door. Locks....yeah, locks.

Ever since seeing this one horror movie as a kid (I can not remember the name and have no care to look for it) where dolls and puppets were murderous creatures in the night, I can not look at dolls the same.
My sister has these glass porcelain clowns that sit on swings and hang from her wall and whenever I spend the night there on the couch... I freak out. I swear I can hear them giggling and the damn things swing in the wind and throw shadows everywhere...

Pediophobia...Fear of dolls, not a fan myself. My grandmother has a room like you mentioned. She has shelves high near the roof, so not only are they scattered around the room, but they watch you from above...
Coulrophobia...Fear of clowns...I suffer from this. I don't even like Ronald McDonald, but my dislike for him is not only what he wears and how he looks. I just think clowns + kids = creepy

Ha ha, sounds a really cool room.
AT NIGHT.
WHILE YOU SLEEP.
THEY WATCH YOU.
I never thought of it that way before.
I don't mind dolls or clowns...I don't play with them now though *coughs* and a action man isn't really a doll, is it!
