Uriel Descending

In the beginning, there was nothing. No motion. No sound. No pulse, no breath, no life.

No Light.

It is said that Reality was borne of such a moment. A Moment of perfect stillness, ripe and ready to have the Hand and Will of the Creator poured into it, that might burst forth with Genesis and Song. A Moment where genius takes shape, life springs up, and the Universe breathes a resplendent sigh.

A moment where Angels are born.

At first, the only sign is the gentlest of breezes. A few leaves stir on the courtyard of the old, decrepit, disused church. Then, from the fabric of the Night...music. Soft, lilting, caught somewhere between voice and instrument, and tuned specifically to the sound the soul might make, were it capable of such.

The sound is, at first, a soft, deep, brassy pitch, causing the whole of Reality to reverberate in a single spot, directly underneath the skewed cross over the archway of the House of God. Then, twining into this sound, a few strands of music of a pitch almost out of the range of human eardrums, and as painful as the underpinning sound is pleasant. A third sound joins the Melody, a rhythmic beat, set to perfect time, like a clock. As these sounds form from nothing, so too does a body. First, the hands and feet coalesce from the sound, the edges of the seemingly dismembered limbs wrapped in a corona of light, one that slowly moves towards the center of where the torso should be. As more sounds, more music, joins this celestial chorus, the body begins to form more rapidly...a high note here, a mid tone offset, a trembling vibrato...the music grows more and more complex as the body grows more and more real.

Minutes that seem like hours pass, the song finally dying down, the Body ready, composed, built for one purpose. There is a flash of light, golden and pure beyond anything witnessable by human eyes, seeming at first to erupt in six equal points and spreading from the Body..only to collapse back with a swiftness that belies explanation.

Then, all is silent once more. No sound, whatsoever, Exists at this point. The sounds of Heaven have muted, and the Sounds of Man have vanished...save that steady, perfect, heartbeat, reverberating across Creation.

Then, it speaks, with a voice so soft and pure, it causes the stones to weep, and the air to feel shame, for not being worthy to carry such perfection.

"Ahz-Real."

The Body raises it's head and opes it's eyes, pure golden orbs almost shining in the full moonlight, and scans the landscape around the church, it's perfect features twisting into an ugly sneer at the Works of Man.

"Small wonder you have returned, Creature..."

It then notices it is wearing...nothing. Almost as an afterthought, it reaches mentally into Reality, and clothes itself in a simple set of white pants and a white shirt, remaining shoe less that it might feel the Earth once more.

It then extends it's hand, palm up, and recites the Words.

"I am Uriel, Sun of God, Fire of Heaven, Guardian of Creation and Keeper of the Pit. I stride this World once more to put down the Creature. I call to me my Blade."

And, sliding into Reality from a plane of existence beyond our own, a weapon comes into the hand of the Angel. A long, straight sword, with a hilt cast from diamond and gold, and a blade of crystal, sheathed in a scabbard spun from the cloth of dreams. Onces the weapon is in his hands, Uriel drops to his knees in the dirt..dirt which does not stain him...and clasps the weapon before him in reverent prayer.

"I am here to do thy Will, my Lord. Show me the way, that I may be expedient in my task and return unto thee."

And with that, Uriel is shown a vision...of another church. A church that has felt the dark presence of the creature, and of a priest...the Catalyst.

"Father Macombe. Thank you, my Lord."

And with that...Uriel begins to walk.

I like this one...the paragraph describing the sound, reminds me of one of my favorite childhood classics, the Narnia series, when Aslan is bringing the world into creation by singing.

I somehow get a little confused after that, I don't quite get what's going on, but that may just be because I'm not relating it to the first story correctly. If I put the two together, Uriel has come to put down the thing Father Macombe released, and probably Father Macombe as well.

All in all, very well written, and very eerie.
