Saturday...

Still loving my job! LMAO :D

This morning, the wind was so high, I couldn't walk to work (took a cab)...right now, the sea is as clear as glass and I can see the surrounding land reflected in it. It's beautiful.

*****

Anyway...need to renew my premium, find something for dinner and write a 5,000 word essay...

Real Vampires love Vampire Rave

Really looking forward to going to work today!

Starting my shift at 4pm and finishing at 9pm, so it's a short day for me but it's the time of day when everyone is relaxed having afternoon tea and there's plenty of time to chat to clients, which is always interesting.

*****

There has been such a lot of media attention in the UK lately on the poor quality of care in Care Homes, especially for the elderly, but in the place that I work, the ethos is so client-centered and welcoming that everyone is happy there. That makes such a difference in client-wellbeing.

A lot of the clients are in their 90s, yet look much younger. I'm continuously being surprised by how physically active some are, and today, we will be having a music evening. Party dresses and make-up, and dancing for those that can.

Woo-hoo! I wish it was four o'clock already!

I love my new job.

That's awesome :) It's something I wanted to do once before. I used to volunteer in these homes when I was a teenager. I'd take the residents for a walk (me pushing their wheelchairs) around the neighborhood... and just visited them randomly.

Thanks guys! What I really love is being able to have interesting conversations with the clients. Short-term memory eludes them a lot of the time but often, their long-term memory is pretty intact, so I get to hear stories of how things were when they were younger.

We have a giggle together when things are going well for them, and just being able to listen when people want to chat is always a pleasure.

I love it all :)

DID YOU REALLY DIE? ...but...I have just seen you online...

16:55 Oct 01 2011
Times Read: 653

...you got an email...read it in a journal...a forum... You believed it. Believe this: It probably wasn't true. Do you know why I say it probably wasn't true? Because you didn't ever get any proof, did you? No obituary, no death notice = probably no death.

People do that all the time. Why? Just for attention. Perhaps someone else was getting attention and the faker felt it was their turn. Simple as that.

How do you spot someone like that? Easy! These fakers:

# Constantly change their story.

# Are sick often/all of the time with a different illness.

# Beg for attention or asking for favors while sick.

# Seem ill but then do things that a sick person would not do, such as appear online...

# Understand and are able to recite precise definitions of conditions.

# Have a history of previous, similar problems.

# Grave situations and increasingly critical prognoses are interspersed with "miraculous" recoveries.

# When attention and sympathy decreases to focus on other members of the group, a user may announce that other dire events have transpired, including the illness or death of a close family member.

# When faced with insufficient expressions of attention or sympathy, a forum member claims this as a cause that symptoms worsen or do not improve.

# Cannot produce evidence of their death or illness.

Now...don't get me wrong...these fakers are sick - sick in the head. They need psychiatric help. Just don't be taken in by them, refer them for treatment.

Perhaps you will read this and believe me, perhaps you will not. This following is all taken from pages I found on the internet....

Munchausen by Internet is a pattern of behavior in which Internet users seek attention by feigning illnesses in online venues such as chat rooms, message boards, and Internet Relay Chat (IRC). It has been described in medical literature as a manifestation of factitious disorder or factitious disorder by proxy.

Several high-profile cases have demonstrated behavior patterns which are common among those who pose as gravely ill, victims of violence, or whose deaths are announced to online forums.

Munchausen by Internet is when a person fakes sickness or disease through web forums. This person may even go as far as developing web pages testifying their illness. In reality they are perfectly fine and only want attention. These people will post images of themselves looking sick, and may go as far as to use make up to look even more ill. There are a few cases of this happening in recent years, and many more individuals are likely suffering from “Munchausen by Internet Syndrome.” These people are often known as scam artists and seek to get sympathy, acclaim or even donations toward their 'illness' from unsuspecting people. It is very important to avoid “sick” or “ill” individuals with pity stories unless you personally know them [http://www.munchausensyndrome.net/what-occurs-in-people-with-munchausen-syndrome.html].

...False stories of personal illness or crisis for reasons such as garnering attention, mobilizing sympathy, acting out anger, or controlling others [http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10923952].

Typically, it's women who fake illnesses online in order to garner sympathy and attention from a potentially global audience, sometimes for years, "Some even go so far as to fake their own deaths, reading their own obituaries and observing the torrent of grief from the comfort of their living room." And it is not uncommon...[http://nancyrommelmann.typepad.com/nancy_rommelmann/2011/03/munchausen-by-internet.html]

There's a potentially limitless audience of sympathetic ears, and success can be quantified by the number of concerned emails and message board posts generated by your lies. Some even go so far as to fake their own deaths, reading their own obituaries and observing the torrent of grief from the comfort of their living room. If they are rumbled – and they rarely are, conclusively – they just go to another support group, and to a fresh batch of trusting victims. The people they've fooled rarely find it so easy to move on....[http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2011/feb/26/faking-illness-online-munchausen]

# They claim to have continual dramatic events in their life, such as loved ones dying or being the victim of a violent crime, particularly when other group members have become a focus of attention.

# Other ‘people’ claim to post on their behalf, such as a parent or partner, but they use exactly the same pattern of writing. [http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Munchausens-syndrome/Pages/Symptoms.aspx]

I'm ashamed to say it, but I know someone that fits nearly every single thing on the above.

I met them on here, and before you knew it, you were caught up in the most fantastic lies out there. Being the sop I am, I fell for it. Every. Single. Time. For about 8 months.

"My friend died in my arms on the side of the road, I got raped, I had a miscarriage, I do drugs, I cut, I'm lesbian, I got raped again, I'm coming to Australia and want you to come back with me, my mother abuses me, I have a brain tumour..." (Which then turned into a pituitary tumour because they realised the lie was too big, or so I assume)... and you get the idea.

"# They claim to have continual dramatic events in their life, such as loved ones dying or being the victim of a violent crime."

Gah.

People like this make me so mad. Also make me wonder if they have psychosis, due to the total lack of remorse and guilt over what they've said and how much these lies hurt people.

I thought the same thing, Lullaby. There are many more who fit that too. It's sad. They should get off of the net and go get some attention from real people.

That's horrible Lullaby, but, people who do things like that are pretty practised at it, so it's not surprising you believed them. It doesn't make you a 'sop', it just means you are caring.

There have been several of these types over my time on Vampire Rave. I was friends with a couple of them. The second time I started seeing the signs and fell away fast from the scene... many other remained friends with her and couldn't understand my point of view. Later, they all became wise to it. I feel lucky to have had a great intuition for these kinds of people. But time and again I am still 'the bad guy' who 'just doesn't get it'... I have to wait it out for the rest to realize the same thing. The fakers usually end up deleting their profiles. They end up completely humiliated of course... no one left to lie to. It'll happen with this one eventually, as well.

Well said Images.

I feel sorry for people who are genuinely grieving over a fake death, how angry and hurt must they feel when they realise that the death was a lie?

All I can say is, I hope the fakers get what they deserve. I really have zero sympathy for anything that comes their way as a result of their deceit.
