So, now I am going to make the system dual boot both Vista and XP. It took some doing to find a comprehensive and accurate set of instructions, but I am going to succeed! dammit. Have I mentioned this has all been in order for me to play a particular game on the PC? Because yes, I am that much of a geek. *sighs* OK, back to work!
So I took the computer into the local place I like and waited to actually speak at length to a tech. It turns out that so many people hated the original release of Vista that the tools to improve it and make it work well have improved by leaps and bounds. I explained that I couldn't get the audio drivers to work and blah blah blah with all of the things I couldn't do. Marshall told me that not only could he make Vista work to my satisfaction, he would also set it up to be a user friendly, non-pain in the ass. He was right. Josh was right. I was wrong. that's ok. This computer is pretty kick ass. I use it mostly for work, but hey thats what I spend most of my time doing anyway. I have written this entry 3 times because I think these pills are making me hallucinate, so I gotta go. But yay for new computers. It's very speedy, and it just does things. Maybe it knows how to command my dog to cook toast in the morning, that would be sweet. I wonder why somebody hasn't recorded dog language and tried to find an algorithim that will play back that dogs can understand. That would be a goldmine. *makes a note of that* The best thing is this computer will run the video, security and financial operations I need it to run without a hiccup. Also, I might be able to sneak in a game or two ;) My old computer got the job done, still does, but its SO slow compared to this one. wow. If I had a billion dollars I would, in fact, have a room full of computers that did different crazy things. I would need a sattelite or a missle system just so I could look like I controlled important things. thats one thing I always think about when I watch movies...like how do these people get their computers to run all sorts of crazy shit and I can't even properly edit a picture? OK, I need to go back to sleep. I feel loopy.

Nice!
Ohhh that fits you to a T.
LOL
Hah! We're both the alien beating bizzle!
I am downgrading a Sony laptop from Vista to XP. I didn't want to spend the time on this, but the local computer store geeks said it was impossible to do, which clearly it is not. (Someone should take away that guys nerd card) Anyway, there are some issues, such as sounddrivers and initially I had some graphic driver issues, but I think I am working those out...this is one of the things I am checking. BTW, if someone has an idea about those audio drivers, I would be happy to listen. The ones on the e-sony page tell you the installation was a success but they are dirty lying whores. Vista comes with realtek, and the drivers i have that DONT work are REDAUD-0119-0801-XP. Any input will be welcomed.

Before you go taking away nerd cards ... please keep in mind that Vista is a whole new beast. As such; a lot of the hardware is propriatary to Vista.
I worked at Intel when Vista was under development; and was aquianted with Microsoft engineers as well - the software was designed to work with the hardware; and the hardware was designed to work with the software.
The audio driver is one example. Some of the hardware may just flat out not work under XP.
Not saying that it can't be done ... but it's a possibility.
HA...you are right...flat out right in some respects. The blue tooth doesn't work, nor does the fingerprint security on my model BUT, I have everything else working pretty well, just struggling with audio. =( I did have to make a decision to sacrifice some things for speed and utility.
Hmm, would it be an idea to download drivers that work with the XP version from Realtek?

Now now ... if you were that much of a geek ... you would have had one computer running Vista - another computer running XP - and yet another computer running 98SE or older; so all of your legacy games would work.
That ... would be that much of a geek.

I do have all three running on different machines ;) The problem is the game "Morrowind IV Oblivion" requires ALOT more space and power than my XP laptop has and its cheaper to dual boot the Vista computer than do all the upgrades on the XP computer.
