So, my classes officially start tommorrow, and I am struggling like never before with how to open...what to say to a fresh-faced audience of, generally 18-20 year olds, about the state of our political world today.
I have been reflecting on how much "truth" is "good" versus what you have to sell in order to keep people...well rather, invest them/interest them in their own political system.
The trick is, if a teacher puts it so far out of reach of the individual citizen, which sometimes it seems like it is, it just encourages further political apathy, which is what got the US into the crappy situation it is today in the first place....an apathetic citizenry thats trusts the government to do the right thing.
It's a weird time to be trying to teach political science to American students.
