My second to last day here in Bristol is coming to a close.
Monday was a wash, considering that I needed to recover from Sunday nights activities with multiple birthdays and some moderately heavy drinking, compared with my usual intake.
Tuesday was more of a drive around, go shopping, buy some clothes and dress myself day. We grab some food, stayed off of the alcohol. Then we just took a look at how my buddy puts together his tunes and what his sound setup is like.
Wednesday was another day of just chilling, looking at music and then having a quiet day in the pub with one of his old friends. It was nice for him to be able to catch up with someone he hadn't seen for 20 years, rather than only 17.lol
Today, he was running a gig and so I just drove around town looking at things, reminding myself of all the places I used to frequent, making sure some of them are still there. Then I went and got myself lunch by the Dockside again and just quietly sat and people watched, whilst appreciating where I've been and come from, and who I am and where I'm going next.
I took the opportunity to get some fish and chips, since I need to scratch that itch every time I visit the UK. I drank coffee and simply enjoyed existing. This town has changed a lot in many ways, but at the same time there was a scent in the air and a familiarity that washed over me and while joyful and nostalgic, there was a Bittersweet note to it all, tinged with the slightest of tears.
So much has passed and so many have moved on, that it was never going to be possible to touch base with everyone on this visit, but I do have a lead for a very important conversation.
Tomorrow might be my last day here, but it certainly won't be my final visit to reconnect with those friends I've held so dear, as family in fact. I may just hit the road and head to one of the towns where some of my oldest friends have moved to. About a three hour round trip to any of them, so I'll have to make a decision on which. I think it will come down to whomever is able to respond to the limited communication options I've been able to reach out with.
The hole in the wall... some really interesting conversations happened here...

Bristol is old. It's a cultural melting pot, but one where each group comes to call it their own, all of them coming to call it home, in a sense. It has a unique character. One that can't quite be quantified in a simple journal post.
It is the gateway to The West. It is where many, many millions made their way to America over the centuries, and I am one. I am a Bristol son, and proud of who I've become.
Been hard to find the time, but here i am in Bristol after 17 years away. I've not done a ton of sight seeing, but theres a little story so far...
This is my rental: a 2024 BMW M3. Very nice. Fast, sharp, fun. Ive heard that it'll do 120mph or more on a motorway, I've heard.

We went down to the dockside to sit for a bit. Hasn't changed too much actually. Bit more posh than it was, but still nice to see and look at the same boats that have been there forever lol.

Had myself a nice cup of tea....

Got a full English breakfast...I started eating it already then remembered to take a pic, but in this plate, I have;
Eggs, bacon, hash browns, sausage, mushrooms, black pudding, and of course, Heinz baked beans in tomato sauce. Nom nom nom.

Later, we went and played a few games of pool in a proper pub. Then hit up a little hole in the wall venue called 'The Green Man' to listen to some live music by friends of my buddy who's birthday it was. Good set. Started with some fun stuff, then the main singer, 'Luna' , who is Portuguese Creole from the Cape Verde Islands, put on a beautiful set that was quite emotional for me. (What isn't nowadays?) Singer, songwriter and guitarist. https://www.instagram.com/lunakali.music?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&igsh=ZDNlZDc0MzIxNw==
Worth checking if you like that kind of chill.
Afterwards, we went to another pub, caught up a bit, then somehow made it back to his crib and stayed up till 6am chatting shit. Overall a pretty good day 1. Kinda ready to come home now that I've felt the hangover from it...but I have other stuff to accomplish while I'm here that is a bit more important.

I'm so glad you're enjoying yourself! I'm so happy for you. :)
Remember what I said earlier during our chat.... you can't party like you are 20 when you're over 40! lol! I wish you all the luck in the other things you are looking to accomplish. :D Lemme know how it goes!
So, starting to try and develop some YouTube content. I've thought about doing voiceover commentary videos and still playing with a couple of different platforms and methods for generating the content.
The below three videos are all entirely AI created with stock content form the platform (Visla). Minor tweaks on the audio and transitions, b-roll footage within the available library scope. There's a decent selection of voices and ok music variations. B-roll footage is limited and there's a lot of paid content. Can upload own media though.
It's really not too bad of an effort, although I think I'd like to get it reading my own script, rather than an AI generated one. It would be nice to be able to create some unique video related to the content itself. Creating AI stills is easy enough, but the stock video media is a bit dull.
So, the results aren't bad for a week of messing around, but I'm not satisfied with the depth of content, or the media matching. It's all a bit dull and formula driven.

I think you should do it!
Not sure whether to do my own voiceovers, or rely on an AI voice, or even just AI gen the whole script.
I think until you find your style, do the AI and the script. Then when that happens do the voiceover and write your own script. Your words will bring more into it.. and your voice will be an added experience. I think it's a great idea.
Looking forward to seeing what you do.

I am so glad you have been able to reconnect with people and enjoy your visit. Finding that time to sit and reflect absolutely had to be, at least in some ways, soothing for the soul.
