Went to my family reunion today or at least my maternal grandparents family. Seems some cousins from California came in and wanted to meet as many of the family as possible while they were here as their mom (with them) is getting up there in years and this may be her only chance to catch up on the family.
They were very nice folks a little overwhelmed at the sheer number of family that showed up and lord help them it was only about 1/3rd of the family that did show up. Too hot or too short notice for most to get there.
It didn't help that the venue's air conditioner couldn't handle the crowd either as it was set at 65 but the temps in there never got below 81. But we stuck it out a couple of hours then drove down the road to visit my Aunt Eva who cannot get out in this heat due to her health. We spent another 1 1/2 hours there and enjoyed a good gossip about everyone we know (especially family members) luckily we all know who the creeps are and share our opinions on their antics. lol
Came back home to relax a bit then my 15 year old niece headed off to the community orchestra practice before their performance tonight at 6:30. It's going to be a patriotic concert and my sister and VW39 are going to it. Adam and I will stay home in the cool and have a little movie night together. :)
The funny thing was my niece went to the meeting of the community orchestra to meet up with her best friend who was sitting in on it for a friend and the director was asking if anyone knew of a flute player that was available as they needed one bad and there Amanda stood. lol She didn't plan it but she's playing on it now.
Did the early errands today then drove by the local Nissan dealer to see what kind of sale they might have going on. Several hours later in 100 degree heat we were taking my stuff out of the truck and putting it into my 2012 Nissan Quest van! Didn't even think they were in my price range but after a lot of dickering and me saying I won't pay more than this... I'm in the platinum graphite very boxy looking but nicely powered and equipped van that will hold 7 persons or 4 without killing each other. lol

See now if they do kill each other those seats do fold down ;-)
A resourceful haggler - congrats on the new car! Whoo-hoo!
Whoo hoo! Congrats!
Bloodlife it does have a big storage area that would hold a body in it plus I can always stick the kids on separate rows. lol
I've been calling my doctor's office since last Friday trying to get the results of some bloodwork I had done there. Never could get a call back from them until finally today I left a strong message and finally got a call back. The reason for the delay was they were trying to find out what had happened as my blood work has disappeared completely even from the lab they use. How crazy is that? So tomorrow I need to go back and have the blood drawn again.
The good news is the nurse that did the last draw and has so many problems is off sick this week. Yipee for small favors ;)
Was a heck of a rough night and day this time. Late last night my nephew's on and off low grade fever decided to upgrade to a really big fever so it was off to the emergency room we went. Of course by the time we get seen the medicine we forced down him has brought the fever back down to low grade then gone and about 3 hours later they've run all the tests they can think of and it's not strep or a UTI though the test did show he's mildly dehydrated.
That's pretty much what we told them when we got there as it was the only thing making sense for his symptoms. But here's the kicker while they thought he should have an IV for fluids they couldn't give it to him there.
Seems the fact that he's an autistic 7 year old who is terrified of needles or being held down means that for him to have an IV he's got to be pretty much unconscious to keep it in him. But the ER isn't prepared to give him anything to let him accept an IV.
So we bring him back home and try to get him to rest but he's wired as heck after all the fuss he put about going to the ER to start with and it's 5:30 AM before he finally winds down to sleep.
My sister and I are both worn out and just kind of in a stupor from the whole ordeal.
The thing is we've found a dentist that does sedation dentistry for autistic kids about 1 1/2 hours away which is doable since that's rarely an emergency situation. But if we have to find an ER that's prepared to handle a kid like Adam, 1-2 hours away isn't good.
The autistic center at Cincinnati Children' s Hospital has a special setup with a Velcro closing suit that can be used to hold him while blood is being drawn or an IV given but it's not something a local hospital ER needs often enough to have one on hand. Which seems kind of funny with the number of cases on the rise so much as the press reports.
We're going to have to talk to his pediatrician about this and find out if there's a plan we can put in place in case of emergency again.
Anyway you look at it it was a long and tiring night. He slept much of today on and off and by evening was demanding food and drink and wanting to play and jump about.
I sure bet he don't let any of us sleep in tomorrow either.
We're (meaning me mostly) are on the no more bad words use around my 7 year old nephew Adam. Which is especially hard for me since I made a lifetime achievement of learning to cuss out a sailor :) But now I bite my tongue a lot and count to ten before opening my mouth but no one's perfect and with tv and school he still hears plenty.
Adam was asleep on the couch the other night because he's been running a temperature on and off and we were sleeping in the living room with him so we could keep a close eye on him. Adam is a little odd in that when the fever hits him while asleep he will moan horribly, makes for a loud night but a great warning of when the fever spikes.
About 3 am it hits him and he moans out and shifts about a little, my sister goes over to him and checks and sure enough he's hot, so she fixes him some grape koolaid with the liquid motrin in it and brings it to the couch for him to drink from a sippy cup.
Adam is laying on the couch with his long legs splayed open one knee to the side and one up along the back of the couch but it's dark and so my sister comes back and sits down on the side of the couch and lands on the knee he has down.
Which was apparently enough pressure to pull (on his tenders) as Po would say and he grumbles a bit then plain as day in a very sleepy tone says "sum of a bitch"!
I nearly puked I laughed so hard and my sister fell from the couch. He didn't get whipped for it as it was completely unintended on his part and too horribly funny on ours.
When she was able to get ahold of herself my sister gave him the drink and he sucked it right down and went right back to sleep.
We however spent the next hour setting each other off again in laughter.
As Larry the cable guy aka tow-mator says Now that's just funny, I don't care what you say!

I guess we can count me responsible for some of that, can't we...lol
LOL
Hope he is better tho. Will try and get hold of you Friday, I tried last night and no answer.
It's been a while since I journal'd and I'd like to apologize to my friends who keep me in their thoughts and help me have fun and make decisions through my entries.
It't been a rough summer so far, with my air conditioner going out memorial weekend or as soon as the temps hit the 90's around here. It's stayed hot and humid every since while we've dealt with getting parts and the repairman out here but finally it's fixed with another new compressor on it and 500 dollars out my pockets. But it's cool in here again at least.
Just in time for me to have to get a wisdom tooth cut out from being impacted in the bone (yep it sucks) but at least I wasn't burning up while dealing with it.
On top of that my nephew Adam, 7years old has been running a fever off and on for a couple of days but no other symptoms so the doctor wants to wait before bringing him into the office just treat the fever with motrin or Tylenol and wait and see what shows up. Which makes him as prickly as a ticked off grizzly bear!
Anyway I'll try to get back into writing more about the crazy life I'm leading and loving.

Going visiting. I can remember all the times we did that when I was younger and we would go to see the grandparents in Alabama. I was thrilled when Scott's parents turned out to be of the same ilk when I got here. It does wonders for me to be able to go visiting with people who care so much about each other.
Plus, I have the occasional trip to Kentucky to look forward to...lol
