Alloyous swiftly withdrew a knife from his boot and before the gun-slinging man could fire off a shot, the knife was embedded within his right eye. Opening his mouth in surprise, the man slowly dropped to his knees, blood streaming down his face from the wound in his eye. Before Shelly’s eyes, the man transformed into one of the ugly beasts she had killed earlier that day.
“What the hell is going on?” Shelly cried, jumping up from her chair ready to flee from the store.
“Wait!” Shelly slowly turned to look at Alloyous, who had issued the command. Seeing the serious look on his face, she stopped, and sat back down. The twins quietly sipped their tequila as if they were sun bathing at the beach not a care in the world, while Dermond and Mordid went over and dragged the body out of the store leaving a cloud of dust behind. Shelly took in the scene, slowly shaking her head in amazement.
“I don’t know what is wrong with you people! Did you just see what happened?” Agitated, Shelly’s eyes shot fire and she started to get out of her chair again, but froze in place as Alloyous’s hand stilled her.
“As I told you a few minutes ago, there is much you must learn Shelly. Please calm yourself and I shall resume from where I left off.” Motioning to the storekeeper for more tequila, Alloyous drained the last of his and set his glass down upon the filthy table. Sitting a full bottle of tequila in front of Alloyous, the storekeeper scurried off nervously to hide behind the counter.
Shelly drained her own glass and sat quietly while Alloyous poured more tequila. Drawing in some deep breaths, she focused on her breathing to calm herself, falling back upon the relaxation method Daichi had taught her long ago. Feeling her heart rate and blood pressure slow, Shelly closed her eyes briefly, and when she felt composed she opened them to face Alloyous once more.
“Now that we are sufficiently in control again, I shall attempt to fill in some of the blanks I am sure must be floating around in your pretty head” Smiling, Alloyous sat back in his chair drink in hand. The twins laughed softly, pouring themselves another drink and lighting cigarettes. Surprised, Shelly looked at the twins, and then said, ‘what the hell’ and asked for one herself. Puffing on the cigarette, Shelly then gave Alloyous her full attention.
"That “beast” that Dermond and Mordid just disposed of is what we call a Hibagon. Its origin is Japanese; however, more and more have been sighted all over the world. It seems their goal is to wipe out mankind and thrust the world into another dark age.” Pausing to take a drink, Alloyous looked around the table and continued. “The Hibagon has little intelligence by itself. It is thought that they are smart enough to kill, but their brawn outweighs brain power.
Before Shelly could ask any questions, Alloyous put his hand up to stop her.
“Let me finish please. A human they call Beneche is thought to control the Hibagons, through some sort of mental power. Our mission is to find Beneche and kill him thus stopping the Hibagons. From our calculations, there are thousands of them coming. We don’t have much time.” Alloyous looked at Shelly as if to invite questions. She just stared at him trying to understand the madness he had just relayed to her.
“Why in the hell should I believe you? How did you find out about all of this? Where and who is Beneche? How do we kill him? And why me??” She paused to breathe, mortified to see Alloyous and the twins burst into laughter. “What the hell is so funny?”
“You look rather baffled at the moment my dear. If you could see your face you would be laughing too," Alloyous replied, laughing even harder. Sheena and Morissa continued to laugh, pissing Shelly off even more. “Shut the fuck up all of you!” Getting up, Shelly started to leave and froze when she felt a viselike grip enclose her lower leg. In the sudden quiet, she turned around to see an angry Alloyous pull her none too gently toward him.
“SIT DOWN!” Surprised, Shelly sat, mouth open, anger forgotten for the moment.
“Don’t make me tell you again!” He got up abruptly and walked outside.
“I wouldn’t advise following him right now.” Sheena finally spoke, her voice foreign in nature although Shelly could not quite put her finger on it’s origin. Downing her tequila, she noticed her stomach rumbling loudly again.
“I really need to eat something, or is that forbidden too?” Shelly spoke sarcastically. Sheena pointed to the counter at some chips and Shelly got up to get them along with a diet Pepsi. She slowly made her way back to the table, half the bag of chips gone before she sat down. Reflecting upon all that Alloyous had told her, Shelly sat numbly, munching loudly. ‘Hibagons – a mad man controlling them with mind power, they want to rule the world, or at least move it into the Dark Age… this is some heavy shit man.’
Shelly ate the last of the chips and downed her drink wiping her mouth on a napkin just as Alloyous and the other two men walked in. They motioned silently for the women to come. Sheena and Morissa got up and walked over to the men. Shelly followed slowly, still coming to terms with what was told to her.
When they got outside, Shelly reached into her backpack to get out her dark glasses. Putting them on, she turned to Alloyous, and asked a final question.
“So, why did I meet up with you all?” Alloyous turned to her and smiled.
“It is quite simple. You have been training your entire life for this mission, Shelly as have we all. Did you know to come here? Why here?”
Shelly thought about it and realized that she did not have any idea of where she was going when she left her father’s burial site: she just instinctively began to walk.
“No, I did not know to come here. I just did.” She tightened her headband, allowing the cloth to soak up some of the sweat that had beaded upon her forehead. Her light blue eyes shown brightly beneath her platinum blonde bangs. Feeling the humidity of the day, she pulled her waist-length hair up into a pony tail while leaving the headband in place letting the breeze blow gently against the nape of her neck. Feeling gritty and in need of a bath, Shelly sighed wishing she were anywhere but here.
“Thus, the reason you found us Shelly. None of us knew where we would end up, but we too followed our paths to this destination. As we found each other here, we knew we had to wait for you before we could leave. And here you are.” Alloyous smiled appreciatively at her, drinking in her blue eyes, her beautiful hair, her tight young body.
She stood 5’5” in her bare feet, but with boots on, she was 5’7”. She stood only chest high to Alloyous, her breasts just above his belly button. As he moved closer to her, her breasts brushed his chest causing chill bumps to rise upon his body. Shelly had on light blue jeans, torn at the right knee and scuffed from wear on the bottoms. Her white tank top came to rest just above her belly button and tanned skin showed on her stomach as her diamond belly ring sparkled in the sunlight. She had on several finger rings and her ears glittered with pierced rings that lined up the side of her ears. Finally, her nose sparkled with a diamond chip pierced in her left nostril. Worn cowboy boots scuffed with age completed her outfit.
Feeling Alloyous’s eyes on her, she began to feel slightly uncomfortable, and then squared her shoulders, vowing to let no one get under her skin.
“Well, now that I am here, what is the plan?” Shelly knew without a doubt that these people were the “others” that her father told her to find. She felt as if she had known them forever; but more than that, she felt as if they were kindred spirits.
“We begin to walk.” Alloyous picked up his pack and slinging it up onto his shoulder, took off in the direction of the setting sun. The others followed, and soon all that could be seen in the distance were 6 people, a small cloud of dust obscuring them from view: refusing to settle upon the ground until nothing was left but a buzzing fly looking for something…
In the Library

'Damn I got locked in again,' Shelly thought irritably, looking up from the dusty book of 16th century poems she was reading. Sighing, she placed the book back onto the bookshelf, aggravated that she had not found the information she needed.
'I guess it is back to the drawing board.' Looking around, Shelly glanced at some of the book titles trying to decide which poem(s) would hold the answer to the clue she had received that morning.
Thinking back, Shelly sat down next to the bookshelf.....
Shelly got out of the shower drying herself off with a thick, white towel. Suddenly, a loud knock sounded upon the door.
'Who can that be at frigging 6 o'clock in the morning?' Already feeling aggravated (she seemed to be aggravated alot lately) and in much need of a LARGE cup of coffee, Shelly slipped on a long t-shirt and panties and headed to the front door. Looking through the keyhole, she did not see a damn thing.
'Ah, those idiot kids are playing jokes again.' Grumbling under her breath, she opened the door to yell at the offending boys when she noticed a large white envelope laying on her doorstep.
Looking around one last time and seeing nothing out of the ordinary, she bent down to pick up the envelope, noting it's weight. 'Heavy aren't you?' Curious now, she closed the door and decided she needed her coffee before she read it.
On her way to the kitchen, she saw a movement out of the corner of her eye. Freezing, she assessed her immediate surroundings looking for a weapon, just in case. Seeing a letter opener lying on the side table, she quickly grabbed it, and holding it in front of her, turned around.
"Meow!"
Pepper, her cat, greeted her, coming up and rubbing her lower legs.
"Pepper you scared the hell out of me!" Affectionately, Shelly reached down and picked up the black cat with a speckle of white on the tips of his ears and nose, and scratched behind his head. Purring loudly, Pepper settled in her arms as she made her way to the kitchen.
Coffee safely in hand, Shelly put Pepper down then went to her recliner to get comfy. Opening the envelope, she pulled out a thick, cream-colored piece of stationary. Written in bold, black words was:
"From the depths of hell
Flames burn hotly around the desert sands
An empty barren water hole"
Underneath the poem was "16th C > Basho."
Thinking the 16th C meant 16th Century, and Basho was a name perhaps, Shelly determined to find out what it meant and why she had received it. The library was the first place to look...
Sighing, Shelly stretched her limbs as she got up from the floor in the library. 'I will have to figure out how the hell to get out of here now. And what kind of librarian closes the library without making sure everyone is gone??'
Shaking her head, Shelly started walking up the aisle and stopped when she heard a clanging noise. Peering cautiously around the corner, she saw a man bent over a computer screen looking at god knows what, and another one creeping up (the only word that came to her mind) behind him.
Intrigued, Shelly bent down, melting into the shadows, silently watching the scenario unfold before her....

Name: Shelly (Takeshi)
Age: 29
Weapons: Swords – Wakiszashi and Katana (Daishō)
Fighting Skills: Excellent in Jujutsu, Kenjutsu, and naginatajusu
Bio: Shelly wiped the sweat from her brow as she stood up slowly, gazing down at the dead beast. ‘What is that thing?’ she thought, as she wiped the blood from her sword. Sheathing it, she studied the beast with intensity. It was huge – about 16 feet tall, covered with hair - and it’s face, if you could call it that, was flat with a mouth full of razor-sharp teeth. Its unseeing eyes were red and slanted. Lying there in a pool of blood, the beast no longer looked foreboding.
Shelly looked down upon it one more time, and then walked over to her backpack. She had thrown it down in the excitement of fighting the beast; now she picked it up, dusted it off, and put it on her back tightening the straps. Adjusting her headband, she squinted her eyes against the bright sunlight, feeling the heat beat down upon her head and back. Sighing, she began to walk down the dirt road, thinking…thinking back to when it all began…
“You have done well in bringing the child to me.”
The old, wizened man told Shelly’s parents, as they gave her one last hug before turning and leaving.
“Where are you going mother? Father?”
Shelly cried trying to run after them, for the old man frightened her. Hearing her mother sob, Shelly began sobbing too, but stopped short as a hand grasped her shoulder with a fierce grip.
“You are to stay with me child. Stop that crying at once!”
Shelly looked back at the old man, her eyes wide with unshed tears. Quivering, she looked up, seeing bright blue eyes gazing back at her from a wrinkled face.
‘He must be 100 years old’ Shelly thought, frightened but curious too. Seeing her curiosity, the old man who was called Daichi, fought back a smile. He was not a mean soul, but rather, a disciplined and strict man. He looked down at the small child and saw the future. Her birth had been foretold long ago. Looking upon her right shoulder, he saw the birthmark that proclaimed her as the one. It was bright red, curved with three lines coming off of it. ‘Yes, she is definitely the one... ’
Taking her hand, Daichi led Shelly up the worn path to his small shack and told her to sit by the fire. Doing as she was told, she still shook with fear, but not as much.
“You will live with me now my child. You will forget your past life, for that is what it is, a past life. Every day you will study and learn the old ways for your life path will be long and hard and you must be prepared.”
Taking a sip of cold tea, the old man paused, and waited for her to grasp what he was saying. Shelly swallowed, not really understanding what was being told to her. Sitting quietly, she listened to the man, and thus, her new life began.
For the first ten years she spent with Daichi, Shelly spent every day working hard, studying the ways of the arts: jujutsu, kenjutsu, and naginata. She was most proficient with kenjutsu, taking to swords like a baby takes to candy. Soon, she was slicing through anything and everything with her wakizashi and katana, although the wakizashi was her favorite. The polearm, or naginata, was also a natural for her. Daichi would nod his head slightly after she worked hard practicing.
On her 18th birthday, he presented her with his own wakizashi – made during the 16th century and used by his ancestors in battle. The blade was worn but strong, and Shelly kneeled before Daichi kissing his foot with gratitude. Smiling, daichi bade her to rise, calling her “Aiko,” his special name for her. That night, Daichi made a beautiful dragon tattoo on Shelly’s upper left bicep. The graceful head was drawn upon her upper arm, the eyes bright red, the mouth spewing blood red fire. The dragon’s long tail curled downward to rest just above her elbow. Gazing at it in awe, Shelly did not know then the significance of the dragon…
The years past, and one night, Daichi called out to Shelly from his mat on the floor.
“Aiko, I am not long for this world.”
Crying out, Shelly ran over to him dropping down by his side taking his hand within her own. “Don’t say that father! You cannot leave me!”
“No Aiko, do not cry, for I am ready. All of these years you have spent with me have been for a reason. You have been preparing for the hardest battle the world will ever know.”
Pausing, Daichi drew in a breath and Shelly heard the wheezing sound escaping from his lips.
“There are others out there Aiko, who will fight with you. Your true name is Takeshi, which means warrior. You have a special power within you and even I do not know its strength. Only when you find the others will you know the true depth of your power. You must leave tonight Aiko. You must find the others, for dark days are coming…”
Daichi drew one last breath and ceased to exist in this earthly plane. Crying, Shelly gently closed his eyes and prepared him for burial.
Laying the last rocks upon Daichi’s lone grave, lying under his favorite willow tree, Shelly took one last look at the little shack that had been her home for most of her life. She kneeled down placing a lone flower upon the grave of the only father she had ever known. That night was the last time she allowed herself to cry.
“I will make you proud father.”
Getting up slowly, she began to walk, never looking back.
Hearing a noise in the distant, Shelly’s thoughts slowly refocused into the current moment. Shading her eyes against the sun, she looked down the road and saw a small town. As she walked, she felt her heartbeat pick up. ‘Something is going to happen’ she thought, excitement coursing through her veins. As she drew nearer to the town, she saw a small group of about 5 people standing by a store. As in unison, they turned to look at her. Shelly stopped, looking at the strangers: she knew she had never met them but she felt as if she knew them. Slowly, they raised their hands in greeting. As she waved back, the dragon on her left arm glowed as if with its own light, and she knew she had found what she was looking for….

Cautiously, Shelly walked up to the small group of people standing outside of a little general store. There were 3 men and 2 women: each unique in his/her own way. Quietly, they surveyed Shelly, not saying a word, leaving her feeling somewhat unnerved.
'Damn, why doesn't anyone say anything?' Shelly thought, swallowing a bit nervously.
As if reading her mind, one of the men spoke first.
"You must be Shelly." Gasping, Shelly was startled when he spoke her name.
"How in the world did you know my name?"
The man looked at her and a slight smile formed upon his lips.
"You are one of us Shelly. Like you, we have been traveling for a long time, looking for each other, getting closer to fulfilling our destiny. You were foretold as were we all." Pausing, he lifted a hand and pointed to the others.
"This is Dermond." The man nodded his head toward Shelly, and spit what looked to be a wad of tobacco juice onto the ground.
"The woman next to him is called Sheena. Morissa is next to her, and Mordid the gentleman in the far corner over there. And everyone calls me Alloyous." Bowing his head, he smiled at Shelly as the others greeted her in kind.
"Nice to meet you all, but I still do not understand how you know me, or what I am doing here. My father has died, and he told me to search for the others. Are you the others?" Shelly put one hand over her eyes looking at the group, shielding the hot sun.
Alloyous walked over to her and lifted up the sleeve on her left arm showing the magnificent dragon.
"Is this the mark your "father" left upon your arm?" Nodding her head slowly, Shelly took one step back.
Alloyous lifted up his left arm sleeve and displayed a dragon just like hers. In silence, she watched as the others did the same.
"What is this? How could you all have the same tatoo?" Shelly cried aloud, feeling really scared now.
"It seems as if your father left you without telling you what your purpose is. I guess it is up to us to begin.." motioning for her to follow, Alloyous and the others went into the dim general store and found a rickety table with 5 chairs in the corner. Motioning to the clerk, he sat down and pointed to the rest of the chairs. The others followed suit, and slowly, Shelly sat down next to him.
"We will all have a round of your best tequilla" The clerk nodded his head and scurried off to get the drinks.
Shelly took the time to study the rest of the group. First, she noticed Alloyous - his black hair was shoulder length, smooth and shiny even in the murky light of the store. His skin was slightly tanned, and his deep blue eyes sparkled under heavy eyebrows. His shirt was opened at the collar, showing a smooth chest. Sleeves rolled up just above the elbow displayed a muscular arm. When he smiled, his white teeth gleamed in a straight row. Shelly found him to be quite handsome. Dressed in black, he looked mysterious...
As the clerk brought them their tequilla, Shelly studied Dermond. Hair white blonde in color, he had dark green eyes, slightly slanted, with yellow flecks in them. He had a long scar on his left cheek: looked like a knife cut. A square jaw with a cleft chin rounded out his facial features; however, he had a hint of a beard. Skinny, Dermond looked like he had no muscle, but Shelly felt he was stronger than he looked. He had yet to say a word as he tossed back his tequilla in one gulp.
Sheena and Morissa looked like twins: they had short black hair, dark eyes, and a tiny mole on the left side of their upper lip. Breasts heaving in their chests, they had on identical shirts: sleeveless, and dark purple in color. The buttons opened to reveal a deep cleavage. Skin tight jeans and boots rounded up their look. Finally, Mordid was a pretty man, with reddish blonde hair and a goatee with mustache. His grey eyes sparkled with intelligence as he sat there studying her. Shelly felt a little unnerved as he stared at her...
She quickly drank her tequilla, feeling the liquor go to her head. She had not eaten anything that day and felt her stomach rumble in protest.
"Could you please explain to me what we are supposed to be doing here?" Shelly looked at Alloyous, and before he could speak, the door to the store slammed open. Everyone looked to see who it was, and before anyone could even take a breath, in walked the tallest, ugliest man Shelly had ever seen. He looked at the group of 6 and pulled out a shot gun pointing it at them...
