So yeah. I have resolved that I totally and utterly despise Gateway systems for being nothing more than trash. My reasoning? Read on, if you so wish..
Alright. I have the habit of keeping my computer on for lengths of time that some might argue are unhealthy for the computer. I've never put much thought into this, as my system's run pretty good in the almost two years I've owned it.
Well, I decided to finally shut it down after more than 2 days of constantly running, and it did so normally enough. Few minutes later, I came back and powered it on, and it brought up the log-in page, normal enough. Typed in the password, and waited the minute or two it would take to load all my applications.
First thing I noticed that was wrong; my background. Second, the Windows Vista welcome center popped up. Then the Google sidebar. And then, about half of my desktop icons were missing, along with several programs which are supposed to launch upon start-up.
I was a bit worried, naturally, but reassured myself it must've been an update or something. Then I press the start button... and half of my pinned programs are missing as well. Now I begun to really worry...
I checked my pictures folder. Gone. The 1000 plus images I had, all gone. Documents next; hunderds of thousands of words gone, along with the next 3 updates for a few stories. Oh, and a few personal milestones, but now they're as lost as everything else. My music, my pictures, my documents, my games-- oh wait, that's interesting. A few games I'd downloaded somehow evaded being deleted; along with everything in my recycle bin.
Windows Live Messenger, and the Plus add-on, are still intact. A few other programs, such as Google Chrome, were also untouched, but a few programs that I had downloaded before (such as PowerTab Editor) were missing.
So, here I am, with an essentially wiped computer, wondering just what the hell happened. I have my suspicions that it was an attack program, and targeted only specific items. But, I have no way of removing it, being that my only defense is McAfee; and due to financial problems, it's currently no more useful than a free download-able trial, despite having had it on my computer since I first bought it.
I'd like to think that my data is still intact, somewhere, on my hard-drive, but just... hidden, or something. Prevented from being used, I guess. My C drive is reading as still having quite a bit of data eaten up; 87.6 GB free out of a total 138 GB. There's no way that the few programs still shown could eat up that much data, even as technologically impaired as I am, I can figure that out...
Should the opportunity arise, I will most certainly take this thing over to Geek Squad, or some other computer maintenance group; if there's even a possibility of recovering my stuff, I'm going to try. However, if anyone on here has even an idea for something to try, I'll give it a shot if I think it'll help. I'm not going to delete System 32 or anything like that... like I said, I'm not THAT stupid.
So yeah. This journal is done...
First off, I am competely and utterly miserable. Not only have I been physically drained thanks to a flu-like virus going around, I've also had to deal with personal issues involving people who are nosy, people who over react at the drop of a hat, and people who are completely selfish. I'm sure we've all had to deal with at least one of these types at one or another, and dealing with two at once is a headache in itself, but to try to handle a single problem involving all three... it's not just a headache, it's a freakin' migraine and a half. Literally so, being that I did experience quite a brutal migraine not too long ago...
Aside from all the 'woe is me' troubles, life's been quite interesting. I tried out Flamenco guitar style; I would like to pursue it, but unfortunately, a song that's meant to be played on a nylon string guitar just doesn't sound the same on a steel stringed one. And having those steel strings tear into the backs of my fingers isn't very pleasant either... so, perhaps a t a later date I'll try it again. But for now.. I'll spare my hands the pain.
Also school related, I'm currently in two classes which I shouldn't be, due to a slight error. I'm supposed to be a senior, so I was initially laid out with a schedule to match, but due to problems with a previous school I attended, I'm going to have to retake my junior year to make up for credits that were supposedly lost for whatever reason... so while I'm being classed as a junior, I'm stuck with 2 classes that only seniors are supposed to be in. I probably could get transferred out into something my level.. but what's the fun in that? I'm almost always up for a challenge, anyway.
In recreational news, I've found an old origami booklet, and have learned to make origami sailboats. I spent an entire night making these things, and now have about 20 or so of them. I needed more desk space, so I placed them randomly about the house, and now one can not enter any room without seeing one. I intend to learn either the swan or the peace crane next... though the latter is a lot more appealing, for reasons I hope are obvious enough.
I also happened to dig out one of my only Xbox 360 games, Ace Combat 6. While I don't have the ability to connect to Xbox Live, I've had plenty fun replaying through the various missions and remembering the storyline. It's interesting to try to follow the multiple perspectives as time progresses, and how each action affects the different people. Oh, and it's fun to blow up a bunch of stuff with absurdly powerful weapons and impossible ammo stocks. :P
While digging through some of my boxes that still haven't been emptied from the move, I happened to come across two of my alarm clocks. One is just a simple, run of the mill alarm clock, with bright red LCD display numbers, and a really, really loud alarm that is capable of waking up our entire house. The second, on the other hand, is quite unique, as it is not only old, but I'm pretty sure it's fairly limited edition. Anyone remember digimon? Well, this alarm clock is in the likeness of Veemon, and is fairly interactive. Oh, and it has the wonderous habit of yelling random phrases at the worst possible times. But, it's gotten me to wake up when my other alarms has failed, so it's earned it's place among my multitude of alarms. And plus it still contains quite a bit of sentimental value, as I was quite the Digimon fan back when I got it, and the memories are something that are irreplacable. Oh, got a bit sidetracked there, but ah well.
Alrighty. I think that pretty much sums of most of my life's events for the past two weeks or so. Well, now that this is all done with, I suppose I should hurry up and submit it already. And with that...
