"I love you, my sister, my friend, my dearest companion. You are a beautiful, kind hearted, genuine soul who deserves the very best and the ultimate love. Through the darkest hour, I am will be your heart, I will pump it full of love, kindness, and sincerity. I will be your mind, I will think of happy thoughts, warm wishes, and postivie energies for you. And I will be your friend, your sister, and the one you can talk to, when you feel lost, alone, and deserted. When you feel alone, remember even though the distance between us is great, the distance between our hearts, as sisters, as friends, is closer than if I was there, giving you a hug. Remember, even though you feel alone, you are in my heart, on my mind, and apart of my very soul. I love you sis, forever and always. Love Keri."

Winter Solstice is the day symbolic of the rebirth of the sun, for it is on this day that the sun will begin to be closer to the earth. Here is a little background information on the significance of this day.
The Phoenicians gave us the wheel neatly dissected into 360 equal parts or degrees. The Phoenicians saw the year as a circle and created the earliest form of our present day calendar, calling it a 364 day year. The four extra days marked the circle much like North, South, East and West inscribes a compass, with each of these four days a cornerstone. These ultimately would be called Winter Solstice - the day with the most hours of darkness in the day, Summer Solstice with the most hours of daylight, and the two equinoxes neatly marking the Spring and Autumn midpoints.
These four days were 'spirit' days in which it was believed we could see into the spirit world. They became causes of celebrations, noting another passage of another year. The Spring Equinox might be a time to plant, the Summer Solstice marking a time for the bounty of the fruits of their labor. The Autumn Equinox marked the end of the harvest and the Winter Solstice marked the end of the year, much like the night marks the end of another day.
The spiritual ramifications of Yule are profound for both neo-pagans and Christians. For Christians, the birth of Christ means a turning point between eternal death and eternal life. Devout Christians celebrate Christmas as the beginning of a new spiritual age of eternal life. For neo-pagans and non-Christians, Yule is also a time of spiritual beginnings. The Winter Solstice is the turning point in the natural cycle of the year. Because Yule signifies the completion of the wheel of the year, the period around the Winter Solstice is considered to be a good time for spiritual work.
Some neo-pagans believe the dark nights of winter are when the veil between the spirit world and the living world is the thinnest. It is therefore an appropriate time for self-examination and meditation on hidden energies-both the energies lying dormant within the earth, and also those within ourselves. Yule traditions celebrate nature's renewal, and help affirm our connection to the energy and power of the earth and the cosmos.
It is also a reflection of one's personal journey. On any adventure (including one's entire life) there is a birth, a mid-life, a sunset and a death. The belief in death and resurrection is universal. Perhaps it is reincarnation or perhaps it is a heaven, but that there is something beyond death. The Winter Solstice celebrations can reflect this. A Winter Solstice, then, can be a spiritual moment for an individual to contemplate their own mortality, their own dark moments, and that there will be light on ahead.

A Soldiers Christmas Story
'Twas the night before Christmas, he lived all alone,
in a one bedroom house made of plaster and stone.
I had come down the chimney with presents to give,
and to see just who in this home did live.
I looked all about, a strange sight I did see,
no tinsel, no presents, not even a tree.
No stocking by mantle, just boots filled with sand,
on the wall hung pictures of far distant lands.
With medals and badges, awards of all kinds,
a sober thought came through my mind.
For this house was different, it was dark and dreary,
I found the home of a soldier, once I could see clearly.
The soldier lay sleeping, silent, alone,
curled up on the floor in this one bedroom home.
The face was so gentle, the room in such disorder,
not how I pictured a United States soldier.
Was this the hero of whom I'd just read?
Curled up on a poncho, the floor for a bed?
I realized the families that I was this night,
owed their lives to these soldiers who were willing to fight.
Soon round the world, the children would play,
and grownups would celebrate a bright Christmas day.
They all enjoyed freedom each month of the year,
because of the soldiers, like the one lying here.
I couldn't help wonder how many lay alone,
on a cold Christmas Eve in a land far from home.
The very thought brought a tear to my eye,
I dropped to my knees and started to cry.
The soldier awakened and I heard a rough voice,
"Santa don't cry, this life is my choice;
I fight for freedom, I don't ask for more,
my life is my God, my country, my Corps."
The soldier rolled over and drifted to sleep,
I couldn't control it, I continued to weep.
I kept watch for hours, so silent and still
and we both shivered from the cold night's chill.
I didn't want to leave on that cold, dark, night,
this guardian of honor so willing to fight.
Then the soldier rolled over, with a voice soft and pure,
whispered, "Carry on Santa, it's Christmas day, all is secure."
One look at my watch, and I knew he was right
Merry Christmas my friend, and to all a good night.

I saw this on facebook and felt touched that this is going around. I may not be in the military, but its really nice to see we haven't forgotten our troops working so hard to give us security over here.
Yes - that is where it came from. I have always done that every year. People don't realize just how much it means to them. If I can find the soldiers The night before Christmas poem I will repost it.
