Vampires are the embodiment of our fears; they are solidified darkness.
They are not the fears born of ignorance, but of experience, often personal experience.
They are what you fear to become, tantalizing with their hollow pleasures.
They are the sum of all your fears, be they death, rapine, ugliness, lawlessness, oppression, or unholiness, and all the other false fears which enslave us to society.
They tantalize us by disregarding useless memes... they challenge our worldview... they are our tests, trials, and tribulations which shatter your reality rut, allowing us new growth.
Vampires have infinite variation, and no vampire is laughable (even the sparkly ones), as they define the horrors (even if they are of high school) of the author. They define the fears of the society from which they evolve.
They are that darkness that lasts that extra moment before the light finally dispels it with clarity.
