A Handful of Sea

Times Read: 1,287
I talk to the sea.
I have missed her more than sky;
She never makes me feel small
And I have brought my lover to her shore.
We whisper about the sand on his skin
As we watch his patient treasure hunt
Where he digs along the water's edge
And sifts the sand from his fingers,
Dipping them into the sea
And holding them up to the sun.
He does this again and again,
Lost in his thoughts,
Lost in his world.
She doesn't ask if I am happy.
"You do not long for him to look up
And search for you in the waves."
I smile, thinking of the sand
He will have to shower away
Later, when this moment will be in my pocket
With the shards and shells he has gathered.
'No.'
He is bent to the ocean I love
And he is not the shape of a sigh
Or a sunset dream.
I cry to the sea.
I have missed her more than earth;
She has loved me so long,
And my lover waits for me
At her shore, whispering.
Tonight we will lie together
On sheets that smell like the ocean,
Lost in each other,
Lost to the world.

I'm glad I took your suggestion to stop by your journal and find out a little more about you. This is beautifully written.
I too love the easy tranquillity of the sea, listening to the waves gently break, gathering the grains of sand only to wash them up again on the shore, and my memories of these peaceful moments shared with loved ones.
