Where the Edges Fray

Sounds of surf. The voices entreat like fists and feet

Thrumming the God words tattooed on his forearm.

Crashes the susurration! Thrashing and threat.

The church scents of Man’s sin and candle sweat.

All that I am,” he whispers to the walls.

But the radio hisses at the camera flash.

Signs shine within eyes and the sacrament wine.

Still, he pushes away from the mother and from grace,

From the acid tears wept from a demon’s face.

“Map the grave deep and wide!” screams the street.

Then the days melt down the widow pane,

Dulled dose by dose in the dream dust now

In the space between his bed and wall

In the place where all he can do is fall.

“Dignify me,” snicks and clicks and tocks the clock.

"We skipped the light fandango

Turned cartwheels cross the floor

I was feeling kinda seasick

But the crowd called out for more

The room was humming harder

As the ceiling flew away..."

It scutters along my floorboards

With a sibilant sound of scales

Scraping like papery fingernails -

Busy. So busy in the dark,

Flaking the painted skin from a doll

And licking its dry tongue on the wall.

Madness in its true form wills me to see,

Breathes on my eyelids and pleads with me

To take its hand and play.

Lifting my gown, it giggles an icicle scheme

And strokes my flesh while it fingers my frozen scream.

Slippery slide into madness and joy, this is a really fun piece to read. I particularly like the way it rolls from my tongue. It is verbal nectar Jo, well done, truly.

This takes absolute brilliance to a completely new level. It teases and dances on the tongue, flickers a montage of rapidly changing images through the mind and leads with a playful giggle into the icy chill of the final phrase. Purely... simply... utterly brilliant! Fucking WOW!!

Holy CRAP, Jo!

If the most elite of the classics can be said to have flowed from the author's pen, then this one had to have taken control of your hand and violently forced itself from your fingertips, as though possessed by a creative genius which has outgrown the mind of a mere human. I'm still stunned.
