A judge in Stuttgart, Germany, is currently trying to decide on a lawsuit in which a man hired his neighbour to impregnate his wife.
It gets weirder.
Demetrius Soupolos, 29, and his former beauty queen wife, Traute, were very keen to have a child together, but Demetrius was sterile so they began to seek out other possible options.
The option the couple eventually decided on was to hire their neighbour Frank Maus, 34, to impregnate Traute.
Maus, who was already married with two children agreed to do the job for the fee of €2,000. For three evenings a week for the next six months, a total of 72 different times, Maus tried to impregnate Traute.
When his own wife objected, Maus explained that he was "only doing it for the money."
After the unsuccessful six-month period Soupolos insisted that Maus take a medical examination. The doctor concluded that Maus was also sterile, which forced his wife into admitting that their two children did not belong to him.
I have written my Senator (and tons of others!) and called his office today. They said they would pass that along and that he hadn't released a statement on how he was going to vote yet. I sent out about 100 emails to all I could of the representatives from all over, including Guam.
"Your Letter to Congress
Jamie, thanks for taking action on behalf of NO HR 669. Your emails are on the way to Capitol Hill.
An individual copy of your letter will be sent to each official."
I wrote the Humane Society about it because THEY ARE SUPPORTING IT! So I told them that I would never give them another donation as I have over the years. They wrote back and said this:
"Hello,
We appreciate you sharing your concerns about HR 669.
Please know that the bill contains a “grandfather” clause that means people can keep their existing pets, even if the animal is later prohibited from importation.
In addition, the bill applies to wild animals, not domesticated animals such as hamsters. The Humane Society of the United States is supporting an amendment to clarify that domesticated hamsters and other domesticated animals would be exempt. More information is available at: http://www.hsus.org/web-files/PDF/legislation/questions-about-the-nonnative-wildlife-invasion-prevention-act.pdf
We would expect the bill to be modified as it moves through the process. Thank you for sharing your views with us.
Sincerely,
Beth Preiss
The Humane Society of the United States"
Thing is, if you look all over the net, it DOES INCLUDE hamsters and guinea pigs, snakes, lizards, some fish, birds, animals that are not native to this country originally. So I am not sure why she told me that. I might write her back about it.
They vote Thursday.
I have written SO many representitives in this battle. Man, I have probably written 100 people on it. If you own a pet, have you done your part? After the 23rd, it will be too late.
Well my infantile side thinks farts are funny.

Look at the faces some people make.. and their reactions... why do people get so worked up about something EVERYONE HAS TO DO?
The guy is making it a little extreme... but he's doing it in a funny way in a lot of cases. The leg kicks are frickin' classic!
I think I'd probably say, "Good one!" and laugh about it, but I'm a guy like that....
OMG I love the last one where she simply turns the other direction!
I have boycotted KFC for years now, after reading and seeing videos of the horrible treatment of these poor chickens. You may think it's just a chicken, but they feel pain and fear and kinship as we do.
Can you finish this video? Can you go to KFC after watching it?

The bottom line is... Any mass slaughtering is going to be cruel. Whether it's for food or because there are just "too many" of one animal.
Fast food restaurants have become the scapegoat because they are the most out in the open... But what about where TGI Friday's gets their meat? Or Olive Garden, where do they get their seafood?
I think it's important to not get distracted by one franchise alone.
What's difficult to me is figuring out what wouldn't be considered cruel on the mass slaughtering for food aspect.
Meat is a large part of almost every culture. It has been a way for us to consume the nutrients we need... Obviously now it has gotten out of control.
Again I'll say that America seems to be eating as a hobby rather than a necessity. The statistics prove it.
Just wanted to add that I'm not arguing with what you're saying, I'm kind of rambling on with my own thoughts here so I don't make a ton of journal entries myself :P
Oh yea, you are right. It's like a hobby! Obviously people go too far with things. I mean hell, look at fried twinkies! What's up with that? They put bacon on top of triple meat burgers. It's insane.
I agree that it's hard NOT to kill in a humane way. I guess it's just the total disregard for life that upsets me so much about it all. I am not putting down meat eaters, because I eat it too occasionally. It's the cruel way of treating another life that is just so wrong in my opinion.
"Kill one man you're a murderer. Kill a million; a king". It popped into my head. It makes me think about how one might become desensitized after awhile of doing that to the animals and after awhile they cease to be live beings.
This is so cruel. Fuck McDonalds. Jeez, why can't people just be humane?! Also remember the KFC cruel treatment of chickens. You know, everything wants to live. No animal should be treated like shit or with disregard. You wouldn't want to be treated that way would you?
I was a vegetarian for awhile, but not presently. I eat as little meat as possible. I believe that if something must die, then do it quickly and as painlessly and stress free for the creature as possible. There is no place for cruelty.

Often times I am not so quick to believe the people making these videos are giving us the real scoop. I think they don't want us to eat meat, period- so they slander companies. McDonald's has something to say about their practices:
http://www.mcdonalds.com/usa/good/products.html
For some reason, I think if this were really true, it would be all over the news.
I don't want my food abused or mistreated before it gets on my plate. But - I'm not so sure that it's entirely possible to kill an animal in a way that is painless or stress-free either. That isn't something which occurs naturally. I've seen how killer whales hunt & eat seals, and I've seen how lions treat their prey. I'd say that our methods are quicker & vastly more humane by comparison.
I am all for stopping that, I avoid fast food restaurants in general.
What if on top of stopping these idiots, we also promote the idea of local farmers and other people raising and slaughtering meat instead of leaving it up to faceless people who are only concerned with a mindless and cruel profit?
Back in Wisconsin we would raise and slaughter our own cows, meat could be purchased from your neighbor.
One steer could feed a number of families. The problem is also America's obsessive meat consumption. Meat is on the menu far more often than it should be.
I'm afraid to look at the video, because I know it'll upset me, ie make me sad and piss me off.
I'm a meat eater; I also believe that our meat should be obtained in the most possible humane way.
I got an email about HR 669, which is a proposal to BAN small pets, such as HAMSTERS, Guinea pigs, birds, reptiles, etc.!!!
Please help me with this and write the representatives that are listed or as many as you can. I have just finished writing each one that would let me. Even though I am not in their state, I can still write all but two. I just wrote the letter and copy and pasted.

This goes to vote in a few days, and it is imperitive that we do something about this. It's ridiculous!
The article starts out as this...
" Could your pets be outlawed?

If you own a hamster, gerbil, lizard, ferrets, exotic fish, snakes, birds or most any pet other than a dog or cat, your rights as a pet owner could be seriously affected. On April 23, Congress’ National Resource Committee will hold a hearing on The Nonnative Wildlife Invasion Prevention Act, also known as H.R. 669.
Under H.R. 669, animals not native to the U.S. would be required to be placed on a list of ‘approved’ or ‘unapproved’ species. The lists would be created by the Fish and Wildlife Service. This already undermanned organization would be required to complete the lists within a short period of time.
If this bill passes, some of the implications would likely include:
• The inability to take your pet across state lines, even when moving or traveling to a specialized veterinarian.
• A ban on breeding, selling or trading your pet. This would include most birds, fish, lizards, many small pets, such as hamsters many rodents, guinea pigs, reptiles, etc.
• The costs to the American public would be extravagant. The money needed to fund such an undertaking would come from our tax dollars. (Aren’t we supposed to be fiscally responsible right now?) Pet stores, specialty veterinarians, feed stores and pet boutiques would certainly see a loss of profits and many would be forced to close.
• Unfortunately, I believe there would be no other choice but for animal service organizations to euthanize animals classified as nonnative, because it would be illegal to rehome banned animals. "
There is more on the page, including at the bottom, a link to click to open a list of people to write.
Thank you for your help. I knew you people would be very interested in this. There are a lot of animal lovers on here.
