What bullshit... A woman replied to the resume I sent her, and was all eager to meet me ASAP! She wanted me to drop by today to fill out an application as well...so I go by at the time she suggested...and she wasn't in.
But that isn't the kicker...funny how the bitch didn't tell me that the store was closing (in less than a month, according to one employee); there were close-out signs all over the place! No mention of this in the employment ad! Now, if the job was gonna' be for at least 2 -3 months, I'd have considered taking it if offered, as it would've helped get me over for a bit, even though the pay was crap. I did call about an hour later to follow up, but she still wasn't in...
What a damn waste of my time.
Even though I'm on a tight budget, I bought my mom two lil' Xmas gifts since I was already out at the mall...
(The good news I received yesterday was that I'll be getting that 4th federal extension in unemployment benefits).

Spending the holiday with family; either at my mom's or my sister's. I will usually do the following:
-watch midnight mass at the Vatican on TV - even though I'm not Catholic
-sleep
-get up, have breakfast, get dressed, and go to one of the above houses
-talk - we talk a lot. In English and Spanish, and some kind of hybrid language, especially if drunk
-play games, drink, watch movies, drink, open gifts, eat an early dinner, loud music, movies, games, drink, etc
-maybe take a nap on a sofa
-eat some more, drink
-get a ride home, with food and gifts
-sleep
maybe - if I had too much to drink - I'll have a headache, But it was all worth it!

A few days ago, my friend Carrie invited me to an all-expense paid 3-day trip to Disneyland @ the 19th! I'd love to go, but I have too much going on/not going on right now:
For starters, I just moved and I don't know anyone in this new complex that I could trust to take care of my cats, let alone pay them. (Carrie suggested that her man James would take care of them, but she volunteered his services - LOL! I don't think the poor guy is gonna' want to drive across town every evening after work to tend to my cats. It was easier when we all lived in the same complex)...
And I'd need some spending money - especially if I'm also suppose to be going to a big punk-thrash show with her, to see one of her friend's bands in action.
And what if my stomach pains me so much that I won't be able to do anything?
I've mentioned all of the above to Carrie, but she still wants me to go. I do appreciate the invitation, but it really isn't feasible right now.
Bummer.

Since I'm waiting for that 4th unemployment extension and my WIA classes to kick in, I decided to go ahead and file for gov't assistance...something I would have never dreamed of doing, ya' know? But I figure, I may as well try to get a lil' something while I wait.
Anyway, to be eligible for these gov't funds, one has to take part in a lot of classes and meetings, while continuing the job search. The job search has not stopped with me, but the other stuff is new - including sitting in the huge welfare office with tons of unruly kids and people coughing and sneezing everywhere. (There are hand sanitizer stations everywhere, but hardly anyone uses them. I do - I'm kind of a germaphobe).
Okay - I'm rambling here. Anyway, I had a two-day workshop with an interesting bunch this week. Of the 20 people in the class, 5 were ex-cons. Most were kinda' scary - but one did look and behaved like a college student - LOL! There was one though who seemed pretty scary - it didn't help that he kept staring at me, grinning. I later figured out that he was laughing at what a dork I was, burning my mouth with hot coffee, dropping shit, etc. He ended up being really cool - told me that he was indeed laughing at me. (Once a dork, always a dork).
Everyone in the class was nice. I have to say that when we had partners for interview role-playing, my partner and I were the best - it was suggested that we should have been in the video we saw which showed the right way to interview. (I was the person being interviewed. I was pretty good concealing my nervousness too).
One woman in class gave me an unexpected gift on the second day - a cool lil' handbag that she made out of a soda pop can! I was speechless - I thanked her and told her that the purse actually matched a hot pink coat that I have and love.
I'll be seeing the same group next week, as we go in to turn in our job searches. I have to be sure to keep in touch with them all!
