Cooking milestone!!

I grew up helping my Mom and Granny can food. But I have NEVER done so on my own.
Tonight I DID!!! Not only that........but I made SALSA for the first time in my life!!
Crossing my fingers they all seal by in the morning. All four and 3/4 pints of salsa!!

Today is a day of trying to find the balance. Balance between good things happening in my life and not so good things happening.
As my scales tell me I am getting healthier - 85 pounds gone as of today...happy dance...my parents stop by on their way to have an outpatient scan run on my Dad who is passing lots of blood through his kidneys. He has always been so very strong and able to work rings around men half his age, but no more. Now he talks about how bad he has felt for the last three weeks and how he gets out of breath and tires so easily, and yet Dr.'s say most of his tests are good. Sigh.
My college buddy, Jill, is coming in this weekend. It has been a bit over two years since I saw her. I am SOOOO excited.
My friends from the hospital in which I spent 21 years, and I are getting together tonight to celebrate a birthday of one of the gals. They are great and I love seeing them and spending time together. We try to get together once a month for dinner, the whole gang of us.
And the flip side is not seeing or spending as much time with Cat and Rat as I used to. They see each other all the time - mostly since Rat works with Cat's nephew. But still, it is time that they share what is going on in their life. And I seem to only catch what I read here. They tend to find out what is going on in my life the same way - here. This is not what I want, but I do understand that things change and proximity makes a huge difference.
I doubt they have a clue as to what I have been thinking. I actually had no idea of writing this when I started, but here it is.
But - Rat and Cat - love and miss hanging out with you two. Just thought you should know.
So - finding balance in the good and not so good of life.
Learning to put things out there as well since no one will know what I think unless I actually tell them.

I was stuck on 73 for almost a month. I stepped on the scales this morning and whoosh......another drop FINALLY.
Total this date - 77!! At 7 months!

Independence Day - Dad went into the hospital yesterday and will probably be there until tomorrow. Having difficulty breathing when moving around. Lots of tests being run, so far everything is negative. But can't walk down the hall and back without being out of breath.
So whatever you do for July 4th, it is better than spending it in a hospital. Sigh....
My Dad has always been so strong and able to work rings around most of the men I know. It is difficult to see him weak and in the bed with tubes everywhere linking him to things.

Way to go girl! I grew up canning with Mom too but have been too intimidated to try it myself so far but I did get a book describing how to do it since I don't trust my memory
