I got some good/bad news today. I have had an Aunt and an Uncle from Dad's side of the family in the hospital over the weekend.
My Uncle is my Dad's brother. He was sent home today. He has been diagnosed with lukemia. The severity and kind is still in process. They did the bone marrow test today and will have the results on Thursday.
My Aunt (married to a different Uncle on my Dad's side) also got to come home today. She has been diagnosed with COPD. She will need oxygen from now on 24/7. Mom said one of the Dr's gave her 3-6 months - I hope he was wrong.
But the thing is....as soon as she got home, my aunt gave my Mom this huge floor stereo.
Not a good sign.
A few of My Favorite Things.......revised

It wouldn't be funny if it weren't so true... Julie Andrews turned 69 and to commemorate her 69th birthday on October 1, actress/vocalist Julie Andrews made a special appearance at Manhattan 's Radio City Music Hall for the benefit of the AARP. One of the musical numbers she performed was "My Favourite Things" from the legendary movie "The Sound Of Music."
Here are the actual lyrics she used:
Maalox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,
Bundles of magazines tied up in string,
These are a few of my favourite things.
Cadillac's and cataracts, and hearing aids and glasses,
Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses,
Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,
These are a few of my favourite things..
When the pipes leak, When the bones creak,
When the knees go bad,
I simply remember my favourite things,
And then I don't feel so bad.
Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions,
No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,
Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring,
These are a few of my favourite things.
Back pains, confused brains, and no need for sinnin',
Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin',
And we won't mention our short, shrunken frames,
When we remember our favourite things.
When the joints ache, When the hips break,
When the eyes grow dim,
Then I remember the great life I've had,
And then I don't feel so bad.
Ms. Andrews received a standing ovation from the crowd that lasted over four minutes and repeated encores. Please share Ms. Andrews' clever wit and humour with others who would appreciate it.
Unfortunately for me - I am now at the age that these things are becoming more of a reality for me. I hope in the future I can meet the realities of old age with humor and grace.

Tomorrow makes day 4 they have been working on a minute bathroom and stairwell. Sigh.......
In other news....I am halfway through reading program admission essays that I turn in tomorrow.
I get to pick up my two new pairs of glasses tomorrow as well. Looking forward to that and my Reiki session in the same day.
And - gotta like a neighbor that brings you homecooked tender BBQ ribs, scalloped potatoes, cauliflour (sp), mac and cheese, yeast rolls, and CHOCOLATE CAKE with DOUBLE the CHOCOLATE ICING.
I am as full as.....well as full as a Birdy has ever been. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
(Yes eat your heart out on that Rat and Cat)
Evil grin as Birdy rubs her tummy.

I rarely get "riled up" (Southern term for angry) but my aprtment manager has managed to do so.
The ongoing saga of the aprtment redo -
The weekend before I left for a week he said to take things off my walls and clean out my bathroom so he could paint while I was gone.
I do so. I come home after a week. No paint job.
I call and ask why. He says I told her not to do that until I called. I ask - her who? - He said my neighbor's name. I said no Chris you told me to do it before I left standing here in my living room.
He muttered and hem hawed around and then said he would be here the next day. That was yesterday.
He came. They started but did not finish. He said he would be here early today. So I get up, take a shower (minus a shower curtain - which is an awesome feat in itself as there was no water in the floor after) and am sitting here waiting........it is now 10 am. So much for him being here EARLY.
GAH........
On the road again........for about a week this time.

So...leaving tonight for the DC area....taking a friend to pick up her Mom from an international flight.
Not really looking forward to it but it is sort of an obligatory trip as she went for/with me last year.
So......I go.
Am leaving the computer at home rather than lugging it in and out of hotels so.....am taking a lovely thing called a book instead.
Catch you all next week. Try to leave VR mostly intact :)
***Rat and Cat.......I will have my cell phone with me.

I have a really nice neighbor. She has knitted me a fuzzy scarf in pink and purple and given me two roses today.
She thought I needed cheering up :)
Sweet of her......and Rat was envious of my scarf...:)

Almost back to normal in the kitchen.......just got the counter and the table to clean off.....and the living room coffee table (micro) but I think I am going to get a cart for it to move around as needed and keep my counter space.
He still needs to nail something down in front of the cabinets but mostly done in there. Said he was going to paint the bathroom and stairwell next week so I have to clean stuff off those by Sunday night.

Happy 3 year VR Birthday to ME !!

Three years ago today, I joined VR. Why? Becuase I was so tired of not knowing what in the hades my two friends were always talking about - some VR website and people with weird nicknames on it.
I just intended the profile to be a way to see what they were doing and to know who they were talking about. And perhaps, even add to the conversation once in a while.
Well....dang it all.......three years later....all three of us are still here. All three Sires and those two with little red buttons under their names. Woot!
I have been able to journal and to learn how to put together a profile to share a bit about me. I have even managed to put together a medium sized portfolio. I have recorded bits and peices of my life here over those three years.
I have also learned about others - some good, some bad - but that is ok...that is life. Had some decent conversation, made a few friends, and was able to sometimes hold my own in a conversation with my real life friends on the happenings of VR.
I was even part of the start of the VR Zoo. My friend and I going on vacation together was the start of Rat and Birdy and our other friend being just like a Cat. We have only grown since then.
It has been an interesting three years. I hope the next few are as good or even better.

*hugs* She just needs some time to come to grips with the ideal. People can live for years with COPD if they follow the rules. I'm sorry about your uncle but I'll keep praying for him.
