Woodruff, Bruce Anthony: Peacefully at home in his wife’s company, on Tuesday 18 November 2008. He was the beloved husband of Gloria, dear father of George, Elizabeth and Catherine, grandfather of Nathaniel Ezekiel, Serena-Marie, Malik, Nathaniel Pierre and Caitlin. Bruce is predeceased by his parents Marion and Wilfrid and survived by his sister Lynn Jacob of Bracebridge, sisters and brother-in-law Glenna and Don Picket of Oakville, Janet and Larry Gibson of Caledonia and mother-in-law Evelyn Roblin of St. Catharines. After brief careers as a reporter for the Niagara Evening Review and a teacher of elementary and then secondary school, Bruce was a professor of Language Studies at Mohawk College for 26 years. He was a candidate in the 1974 federal election. Bruce contributed greatly to his community; he was a working member of the London Little Theatre and produced two operas for the Hamilton Opera Corporation. He and his wife Gloria restored and designated the 1839 Woodruff family home, Woodbourne, St. David’s. Bruce served on Niagara On The Lake Heritage Committee and Willowbank School of Restoration Arts Board, initiated the St. David’s Ratepayers Association and the St. David’s Heritage Day. Resting at Hetherington & Deans Funeral Chapel at 5176 Victoria Avenue, Niagara Falls, where the family will receive friends Thursday evening 7 – 9 pm and Friday 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Saturday 22nd of November 2008 at 1:30 pm at Stamford Presbyterian Church at 3121 Saint Paul Avenue, Niagara Falls, ON. Internment will be at St. David’s United Church Cemetery at 1453 York Rd, St David’s, ON. There will be a reception at Woodbourne (214 Four Mile Creek Rd, St. David’s) to follow.
On Tuesday 18 November 2008 at approximately 14:30 my father died after a brief battle with Cancer. The funeral will be this Saturday at 13:30 in Niagara Falls.
