I used to tell anyone I could about the West Memphis Three. How important it was to have people look into it in order to have (Damien especially) those three young men freed. Damien wasn't that much older than me when it was exploding all over the news media that he would be sent to death row to die of a lethal injection. I couldn't imagine what he or Jason or Jessie could have felt like. My father once looked over my shoulder and asked me what website I was on when I started taking it upon myself to know more about the case. I'd mumble something about how I clicked on something that took me to a wrong page so he couldn't see. He was a right winged Rush Limbaugh listener and I could only imagine what kind of verbal toxicity he was spewing about the WM3 at the time. I don't know...I never liked Rush. But, I could only imagine.

When I learned that this was nothing more than a modern day witch hunt (especially being a goth in high school listening to bands way worse than what they listened to, plus, I studied various things of the Occult

and yes, wore loads of black)...I was pissed. How could a jury do this to these 3 young men?! I spread the word everywhere I could.

On August 19, 2011, they entered Alford pleas, which allow them to assert their innocence while acknowledging that prosecutors have enough evidence to convict them. Judge David Laser accepted the pleas and sentenced the three to time served. They were released with ten-year suspended sentences, having served 18 years and 78 days in prison. Jason and Jessie decided to do this because they were going to kill Damien.

Wow. Finally!!!

I was so happy for them all. Especially Damien. Now it's time to get them exonerated. I really hope to see that happen soon. I guess the whole reason for this entry is because I wanted to watch the 1st HBO Documentary Film about this entire thing the other night. There's also A LOT of footage I didn't get to see (saw it halfway one afternoon). Then I had to re-watch the films in order this week. It still upsets me. What upsets me even more is...I believe the killer or killers of Stevie Edward Branch, Christopher Byers and Michael Moore haven't been brought to justice.
