A misty morning,
damp with frost.
I walk alone
and I knew I was lost.
Ahead in the distance,
I saw a light most welcoming.
I smiled to myself,
and thought it most becoming
of the smallest cottage
straight from a fairy tale
nestled in the woods,
where no one could tell
of the magic around it,
and the love inside
of the smiles that frame it
and the happiness belied.
I walk to the cottage
and knocked on the door
a woman pulled it open
and walked across the floor
smiling at me,
with a dazzling light
this beautiful woman
became my heart's delight
The darkened forest of my life
became quite brilliant
and I realized deep inside
that I was kind of resilient
a rubber band,
swaying in the breeze
neither breaking, nor tearing
bearing heat and the freeze.
The strength this woman gave me,
because a guiding light
and I walked away that evening,
feeling even more than right.
I strode to my home,
quite a few miles away
and hugged my small family
and began a new day
full of hope, love and harmony
of voices that sing on the breeze,
and the life I had almost lost,
had brought me to my knees.
The light that old woman gave me
the hope, the pride, and the fear
for the lives of those who had loved me
and those that loved me yet
For she told me in that cottage,
on that late winter night long ago:
"You cannot live, realy truly live,
unless you learn first how to love."
Untitled
Sitting in the still of night
the stars refuse to shine
and then you shone with dazzling light
and I knew that you were mine
The heat of your eyes
your breath on my skin
the feel of your body
makes me smile again
A light so bright
that breaks through the night
that smothers my soul
and makes me feel right
To hold your hand
and know you're mine
inflates my heart
and makes me shine
A Fire Inside
Honor bound
and honor bred
borne in blood
of deepest red
Darkest night
devoid of light
no sign of hope
a swinging rope
a choice to be made
hard to think
my thoughts begin to
rapidly fade
I remember most fondly
of my friends oh so dear
who walk right beside me
and take away my fear
honor most high
first in few lives
but for my own
there is none higher
a fire inside
a passion quite bright
to live life to the fullest
and do whatever is right
to love
to laugh
to live
to learn
the fire inside
a love to earn
