The Tainted Love cover in memory of John Balance

02:30 Aug 29 2006
Times Read: 524

Some people have wondered why I would do a cover of a song covered so many times already? This is my reason. One of the most well known covers of Tainted Love in the underground is the one by Coil. Coil was one of the most influential bands that appealed to the industrial, techno, and noise communities. Without their influence there probably would be no Aphex Twin, Autechre, Mentallo & Fixer, the list goes on. To those unfamiliar you may remember them best for their remix of Closer that appears in the opening credits of the movie Seven. Coils most famous album would be Loves Secret Domain on Wax Trax, a combo of Dark House, Industrial and trippy electronica. Hearing this album would forever change mine and many others sound for years to come. Although Coil reverted to more minimal noise throughout the 90s, they will be remembered for those ground breaking trax, Tainted Love was one of them. Late last year John Balance suddenly passed away unexpectedly, John had struggled for years with alchohol and drug abuse. It remains uncertain if this was related in any way or not. Upon hearing this shocking news I made up my mind that I would do a cover of a cover of Tainted Love as tribute to John Balance who inspired me and thousands of others to be more creative as a musician and fan. Here it is thanks for reading

The name Alexziq and what it means

02:28 Aug 29 2006
Times Read: 525

For those of you that read my Bio. this is the explanation of the spelling Alexziq. My last name is Aleksich, and as I stated in my Bio. people of Slavic, or Russian background during the cold war often changed their names, or the spelling of it to something less communist sounding. For Aleksic (Serb spelling) Aleksich (English) was made to be pronounced (Alex-sick). I thought it would be fun to take that same sound and make the spelling even more radical. More or less its poking fun at the conservative ignorance of our country past and present. There you have it!

Alexziq on Juggalos

OK, I felt I want to address this issue, because I know the looks I get from certain people in the underground when they find out I have a taste for this music. And by that I mean when Im asked "You like them?" I get a look as though its beneath me. For example Ill be talking to My friends more into Goth/Alternative, or black friends of mine and theyll say "Really you like them?" So let me try to explain in an intelligant manner as apposed to the braindead FU woot woot explaination some people give. First off ICP, Twizted, and Psychopathic is not just braindead rap rock. There are no drummers, or bands so to speak. Its created the same way the Beasties, or Run DMC did. Its a little more personal though, fans generaly look at the producers like part of the band. Mike E Clark, Fritz the Cat, and Mike P all come from backround in forms of Electronica. Mike Clark was with Primal Scream, Utah Saints, And George Clinton previous to ICP, Fritz is a Detroit Electronica legend whos songs sound like Coil to Puppy and everthing inbetween. Mike P plays in a Industrial Rock band. These guys are way beyond goofy Hip Hop. Yes the lyrics may be braindead, or sexist at times but there is a whole other side thats both political and religious, as well as bringing hope to children picked on and beaten through our great education system. Psychopathic Records in addition is following the same formula that Wax Trax did, sign close knit artists and belt the public with tons of material and side projects, keeping the fans music appetite quenched and craving more. But yes some of the Juggalos out there arent that bright and annoying, but you have that in any scene. Your always going to have your beer, and pot crowd, your geek crowd, your hardcore drug user crowd, and your posers. Youll find the same thing at any goth show. Ive talked to people at ICP and Twizted shows about everything from Puppy and Meat Beat, to the Misfits, to comics and movies and wrestling. Bottom line is this wether your a freak or normal, black or white, either you get it or you dont get it. You either love them or hate them, there arent many fareweather fans. And if being a fan makes you a Juggalo then be proud of it!

Alexziq on Comic Books

00:55 Aug 29 2006

Comic books shaped my life, It may sound crazy to some but its true. I grew up in a single parent home passed back and forth between my Mother and Grandmother, comics were a source of moral fabric in the early developement of my life that I am forever in the gratitude of. They taught me how to be a good person without being a conservative Nazi. Batman and Captain America taught me how to survive through pain when the odds are stacked against you. X-Men taught me tolerance and acceptance of others, while giving hope to myself and others who are differant themselves. Over the years I would come to grow into a young Punk Rock kid. Books began to come out like the Dark Knight Returns, Watchman, Miracle Man, Swampthing, and the Crow. These adult oriented books would ensure that I would continue to love comics through out the years to come. These stories tackled issues of emotion, political corruption, goverment, and the harsh cruelties of the decay and despair of our society. It would further develope over the years and mature labels like DC's Vertigo would arise turning Sandman, Constantine, and others into household names. You can see the evidence into todays society as more and more movies are made every year, even cult stories become movies in this age. This phenominon has let me know Im not alone in my feelings. Our society in the new millenium is so largely influenced by this counter culture its hard to ignore. We the freek and geek children of the 80's have left our mark on the world just as comic books left their mark on us!

Alexziq on my FUBAR video inspired by GG Allin

00:54 Aug 29 2006
Times Read: 530

OK, its time to address this because I know the majority of people who have seen this video are not friends of mine. They probably wonder why an electronica guy did this vid. Its very simple Im not an electronica guy! Is that the music I make? Yes. But I grew up a hardcore punk kid who got into industrial, it wasnt that strange back then. Jello Biafra and DK was a huge influence to me and I once read Jello say "GG is my personal Christ", I knew I had to check him out and did. GG Was the ultimate example of what society and restriction can do to someone. Now Im not going to sob for GG, he wouldnt have wanted that. To me GG was a big F U to every a--hole that ever gave me crap as a kid because GG didnt care what you thought of him. To quote Malcolm McClarin "hes a fabulous disaster". GG is a hero in my mind, an artist unbound by petty morality, and I believe your in heaven GG because this world was Hell to you! ( plus Im sure Wendy O, and El Duce are keeping you company) ooow, thats a sandwich I wouldnt wanna see!

Alexziq on Manson and Reznor.

Stop!! (If you get offended easy dont bother)

First off let me say that if you like them don't be offended, this is just my take. People often ask why old school people of NE Ohio give NIN, and MM such crap. My opinion is this, back in the late 80's and early 90's the old industrial alternative crowds of Cleveland/Akron were very cutting edge for our cities. We had clubs in Cleveland like the Alter House, the Lift, the Phantasy, and in Akron Carols, and Thursdays. Now for that time it was a lot for a boring state like Ohio. I often snuck into the Phantasy, and Alter House at 16 or 17 years old. We would see Trent there and no one thought anything of him, he was just another gloomy looking dude. Now you see this same guy a year later and he's more or less exploiting our little subculture to MTV, it made some of us a little pi**ed off. When Pretty Hate Machine came out a guy I knew at High school went to Trents going away party at his apartment in the Flats, the pics had Bob Marly, and Rush posters on his walls. Now not to say there is anything wrong with having a open mind to music but I just got the impression he was an outsider ripping off our music to advance his own career. Back in 92 at Skinny Puppy's Last Rights show at the Agora Trent sat down at the bar next to my buddy Murph trying to play it cool with the fans. The funny part is everyone went up to Murph and said " hey arent you Steve Murphy!". We even paid a skinhead we knew named Scott to go up and diss Trent for a dollar. I know it seems mean but you have to understand how annoyed we felt back then. That if you ask me was the beginning of the Industrial/Goth Posers. And of course creation needs a messiah, thats where Manson comes in. Trent created the posers and Marilyn led them. We ran into him too somewhere between 89-90 at a Dennys in North Canton, I wasnt impressed. Over the next few years I watched Manson rip off almost every trait from Shock Rock, and Industrial filling his own pockets full of money off the ideas of others, some who were destitude financially. Within a couple of years the underground version of the scene was dead in NE Ohio. Bottom line is this, I would be a liar to say Ive never liked anything Trent has done I just feel other bands from Ohio like Devo, the Cramps, and the Dead Boys did it better without suffocating the public. (Thats right Chrissie Hynde-no props to you! Next time Ill put my cigarette out in your eggs!) But thats another story. Thanx for reading!
