Welcome to SciFi Japan, your source for news and information on science fiction, horror, fantasy and action movies, TV shows and videos… from classics and old favorites, upcoming productions, to the odd and obscure titles you may never have heard of before!
SciFi Japan was launched in early 2006 with the intention of bringing accurate and exclusive information on Japanese productions directly to English speaking fans worldwide. To achieve that goal, we brought together an amazing group of published authors and reporters, film historians, reviewers, festival organizers, and movie makers with ties to the Japanese film industry. Our contributors have been well-recognized for their expertise; they have been interviewed by major news outlets (including The New York Times, NPR, Chicago Tribune, Reuters News Service, NHK: Japan Broadcasting Corp., and Korea’s Munwha Broadcasting Corp.); contributed to DVDs from labels such as the British Film Institute and Criterion; and provided press and publicity materials for theatrical and DVD releases.
Our staff and readers expressed interest in coverage of TV and films made outside of Japan, so SciFi Japan has evolved to present information from all over the world. While our primary focus remains Japanese tokusatsu (special effects) and anime productions like GODZILLA, ULTRAMAN, SPEED RACER, and ASTRO BOY, we will regularly run features on American releases like THE DARK KNIGHT, IRON MAN, and CLOVERFIELD; British favorites such as DOCTOR WHO and PRIMEVAL; and Asian titles like THE HOST. With contributors on four continents we will always have something new to write about.
SciFi Japan works closely with studios, distributors and media contacts to bring in-depth coverage on their latest projects. We often present exclusives such as interviews with the people behind the scenes, first looks at photos and production/publicity art, and trailers and video.
