Based on Asimov's Foundation series, The Foundation Trilogy is made up of eight hour-long episodes, broadcast by the BBC, 1973, then repeated in 1977 and 2002.
Psychohistory and Encyclopaedia, the opening episode, begins on Trantor capital of the Empire, with the meeting of Seldon and Dornick, their trial and exile to Terminus. The action jumps forward fifty years, where the repercussions of recent independence of the Four Kingdoms are felt on Terminus, and are handled by the first Mayor, Salvor Hardin.
The Mayors, the second broadcast, takes place twenty years later, as Mayor Hardin faces the domination of the nearby and most powerful Kingdom, Anacreon.
The Merchant Princes the third part, is set 150 years after The Foundation is established, and the powerful trading nation faces its greatest threat, guided by Hober Mallow
The General, the fourth part, takes place 200 after The Foundation's creation. The Foundation battles Bel Riose, a General from the dying Galactic Empire.
The Mule, the fifth instalment, is set 100 years later and The Foundation is challenged by an unexpected threat, called The Mule
Flight From The Mule, the sixth part, describes the war against The Mule and the search of The Second Foundation by some key characters.
In "The Mule Finds", the seventh broadcast, The Mule attempts to find The Second Foundation.
Star's End, the eighth and final instalment, takes place sixty years later, with a teenage girl at the center of the renewed search for The Second Foundation.
