Documentary exploring stories of `deviant burials', designed to prevent the undead rising again, wherein corpses were beheaded, burned or had their hearts cut out - or a combination of all three. The practice has not entirely died out, with villagers in Romania exhuming a man as recently as 2004 to remove his heart. Archaeologists including Catriona McKenzie, John Blair and Mark Horton examine items from these disturbing burials, and the programme asks whether such powerful fears of the undead explain people's modern fascination with vampires.
