Vampire bats
According to Daniel Riskin of Cornell University, the bat will take as much as a half hour to lap up the blood and that blood amounts to about a tablespoon.
The bat delivers a substance in its saliva that prevents the blood from clotting. According to Robert Roy Britt writing on science for on msnbc.com, scientists have developed a blood thinner to prevent stroke and heart attacks from vampire bat saliva.
Note: New health warning just delivered by Health Canada. A rabid bat was found outside of the McGill University gates, in Montreal. One man was bitten and is going through tests right now. If anyone sees a bat especially flying during the day this is a warning sign that it could have rabies. Bats are nocturnal animals they should not be flying during the day. But be careful at any kind. If there is one rabid bat there could very well be others.

An exciting discovery has been made in Venice, Italy in March of 2009. A team of archeologists was digging a gravesite on the island of Lazzaretto Nuovo, in Venice looking for some clues to the remains of plague victims in the middle ages, in 1576, when they serendipitously found a female skeleton with her mouth stuffed with a brick.
What is exciting about this find is that it was the practice in the 1500's, in Italy, to stuff the mouth of a vampire with a brick. The discovery by Matteo Borrini of the University of Florence is a flashback into vampire history and a witness of the past in action. Borrini presented his findings to the American Academy of Forensic Sciences in Denver, Colorado.
According to Borrini this may be the first vampire to be scientifically (forensically) examined. Borrini claims this is the first evidence of vampire exorcism, though other scientists say that there were also vampire skeletons found in Poland.
In that era in Venice, the populace believed that vampires went beyond sucking the blood of their victims, they actually caused the plague of 1576.
We know the legend of Dracula and the common belief that it originated with Vlad the Impaler III, Prince of Wallachia who was the ruler of Transylvania, Romania in 1456 to 1462 . He was also known as Dracula.
