"Ich will weg von hier, doch es scheint egal wohin ich lauf..."
"To-morrow, and to-morrow, and to-morrow, Hier bin ich. Ich kann echt gut Denglisch sprechen! :-) 1. I am a redhead. I'm also left-handed... apparently I'm chock-full of recessive genes. 2. I'm a people-watcher. I'm probably watching you. 3. I love old movies and black-and-white photography (Dorothea Lange). 4. I love playing guitar. I'd also like to learn Appalachian dulcimer, lyre, harpsichord, and electric bass. And then make a band that uses all of them. 5. My first word was "twinkle." 6. If my Dutch were better, I'd be sexilingual. Although only four of them are still in use today. 7. I keep a copy of Shakespeare's Complete Works on my bedside table where most people would keep a Bible. 8. I really like Edward Gorey. I also really like a lot of people. I also tend to like things, in general, a lot more than is healthy. 9. I am outdoorsy and pragmatic, but also embarrassingly domestic at times: I like cooking, reading, and knitting, but I can also pitch a tent, avoid poisonous plants, and change your oil. 10. I love Wikipedia. Factoids are my thing. There are too many ideas and too many people. And too many directions to go. I was starting to believe that the reason it matters to care passionately about something, is that is whittles the world down to a more manageable size. A quick note to any potential friends... Feel more than free to add me, bite me, read my journal, etc. Please don't ask me to cyber, because that's gross. Also, please don't ask me for any email/instant messenger screen names. I will not give those out to anyone I don't know in real life. No exceptions. Besides, I'm not on those very much anyway. Honestly, you're more likely to see me on VR than online with a messenger. So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past. I know, I look young. I look like I'm about sixteen years old. I'm not. I assure you, I'm a fully-fledged adult, furnished with all my Constitutional rights. I'm not naive, and I'm not immature. I know where I'm going in life and I have many of the tools I'll need to get there. I have a very strange sense of humor. It's pretty subtle and a lot of people don't get it (that is, they think I don't have one). It's tied to my eternal quest for beauty in the world -- you have to be looking for it. I'm always looking for something. Generally, I have a hard time living in reality... I am so very prone to fantasy. I am very self-reflective, and somewhat self-contradictory. I am a generally serious person, and I love philosophical and personal conversation. I'm not the party type, but I do like to get dressed up and have fun every once in a great while. I am fiercely independent, always in motion, always growing and changing. I don't like to define myself by anyone's standards, including my own. I'm a student majoring in Classics and Linguistics at an American liberal arts college. By night, I am a singer-songwriter. I'm sort of a rock soprano -- I have opera training but now I sing mostly folk-rock-indie music, and I accompany myself on acoustic guitar and occasionally drums (by which I do mean whatever surfaces are available). I do not have Myspace. For those who like that sort of thing, that is the sort of thing they like. Books and words, words and books. Some of my favorite writers... And on the subject of words... ...words I enjoy... About My Passions... As for music, I will truly listen to anything (I know, I hate it when people say that, too) as long as it's good music. I like everything from classical to metal to techno to hip-hop to alternative rock. I will even listen to pop and country, as long as it's good pop and country. I enjoy African tribal music, European electronica, chamber pop, Celtic punk, and choral music. My list of favorite artists is quite long, so I won't bother with that, but I will say that I get into very specific moods for a genre or even a song. Right now it's Cream. Yesterday it was the Dresden Dolls. I speak English, German, and Spanish. I've studied Latin and Greek extensively, as well as bits of French, Russian, and Hebrew. I have a basic reading knowledge of Dutch. I am quite interested in learning Hungarian, Arabic, Sanskrit, and Irish Gaelic. I'm also a bit of an English-language purist: I use semicolons and Oxford commas. I shrink from dangling modifiers. But I have fun too: I don't mind split infinitives, and I think shouldn't've is a perfectly fine construction. I love languages (clearly) and culture. Travel is one of the most broadening things a person can do. I want to learn Hungarian and then go to Cséjthe and read Erzsébet Báthory's diaries. I hope to eventually go into classical philology. Sexually speaking... - My Kinsey number: 4.5 - Kinks: Not that it's any of your business, but I'm a domme. - I am a hopeless, intense romantic. I don't hook up: I would not sleep with someone I don't love. - No, I will not cyber or show you nude photos. Really now. Things I Like... Music, languages, color, singing, playing guitar, writing songs, food, history, chocolate, autumn, big cities, being barefoot, libraries, tea, hot sauce, photography, iced coffee, cats, minty things, cooking and baking, swimming in the ocean, the smell of onions, kissing, rain and snow, activism, grammar, playing with fire, knitting, contra dancing, pretty eyes, Star Wars, webcomics, reading, having a purpose... I like playing the game where I have as much fun as possible for as little money as possible. I collect soda can tabs (I'm thinking of trying to make chain maille out of it) and little souvenirs from places I've visited (e.g., I have a little ceramic squirrel from Costa Rica). I have an affinity for lists. I secretly like fashion. I love falling asleep reading and waking up on lazy mornings. I like pomegranates. Though I do prefer to ramble in my own words, I like quotes very much. I'd like to say I can quote you to death... but that's probably not true. Things I Don't Like... Stupidity (I really have no tolerance for it), prejudice, studying, sexualization of children, objectification of women, the color orange, custard, feeling itchy, marshmallows, bigotry, Sigmund Freud, extra noise, drama, smoothies, exercising, having to wear sunglasses all the time (yes, in the winter too), excessive humidity... and I hate when people bump into me because they aren't looking where they're going... it's like when people drive while talking on their cell phones. It's irresponsible. The Dante's Inferno Test has banished you to: the Sixth Level of Hell - The City of Dis! Here is how you matched up against all the levels:
I don't want my profile page to be crowded with silly quizzes, so to save space and loading time for all of you, I have moved all my other quizzes to my journal. In case you care, I am keeping them in my "Stories" section for now. About my ratings system: I always rate a profile when I visit. If I didn't, it's because I have already rated you. I don't re-rate unless you ask for it. I try to be fair, but I usually end up on the nicer side. I will rate you a 10 if you put in obvious effort. If you're over level 25 and your profile is still barren, your rating will go down. Likewise, if your profile is full of pictures, quizzes, and other "fluff" without any content, that earns a lower rating. I'm not picky about things being legible -- it's your profile, so it's for you. I don't revenge-rate. I don't rate people below a 5. If you harass me, I will block you. If you add me to your friends list, please do tell me - so I can add you back. I try my best to return all rates and adds. I don't respond to bites, but feel free to message, stalk, add, or look at my journal. I really like meeting and talking to people. Assuming you conduct yourself well, I'm more than willing to talk to you. I like people! [Celebrant] [People] And also with you. What can I say. Catholic habits die hard. |
