Tesla
Tesla is the man who contributed more to our world today than any other Scientist. He is of course the man who introduced us to the 'alternating current' - which powers everything and without it, we'd have no computers, tv, radio, electric lights etc .. so as you can see this man is pretty important. Not enough is taught about Nikola Tesla in schools in either Uk or USA. Shocking - yes indeed it is. The answer to this is because an inferior but better known Scientist Thomas Edison was given credit. At this point many people will be asking why this is. Thomas Edison had come up with an inferior way of giving the world electricity - which was the 'direct current' system. Edison had a gift of recognizing talent and capitalizing on patents. Edison did not come up with the light bulb - he trawled through 26 inventors works and merely tweaked a workable version of another's design. As you can guess - yes Edison worked with Tesla too. The two men worked together and they compared their works - Tesla's 'alternating current' and Edison's 'direct current'. Tesla was angered by Tesla's current because it showed his lacking in comparison. This was because Tesla's could power more miles than Edison's and would require less power plants. For this to be known, Edison's 'direct current' would be obsolete while Tesla would be celebrated. So Edison set out to discredit Tesla and his work by demonstrating the dangers of Tesla's 'alternating current' - Edison did this by electrocuting dogs and cats using Tesla's patent, thus horrifying the public about Tesla. So Edison's inferior product was used instead. Yet despite this- which design do we use today? Why of course it is Tesla's 'alternating current' with it's thinner wires and superior higher voltage. Sadly by the time the public and the Governments got their fingers on the pulse, Tesla had died, Edison was already taught in Schools, so the facts about Tesla being the Father of the AC current was left to obscurity for many years to come. Tesla was very much a Sheldon Cooper of his day - celibate, had an Eidetic memory and had many quirks such as being a borderline hermit, OCD, and short sleeping patterns.Despite these oddities, he was said to be a polite, humble, honest and likable man.The brilliant writer Mark Twain was a good friend Nikola Tesla.Sadly popular culture is laughably inept at admiring the correct father of the electric age. Without Tesla we wouldn't have enough electricity to power our homes for it would had taken a power plant every mile to power your home. Only the rich would afford it. Without Tesla we'd not have electricity as it is today. We would not have the items we use for entertainment, cook our food, power our workplace and make life just awesome and wonderful. The very computer you are looking at right now would not exist without this man. I'll say it now - Edison is a hack and Tesla rocks.
