Good article although I wish there were more put here. I have to say that I do think that this occurs. When looking at neuro pathways, it is shown time and time again that by repeating an activity we enforce that pathway in the brain, when we stop... over time that pathway fades, and eventually becomes lesser.



With thinking about this in the conscious brain, then you are looking at one set of pathways. Yet there are cases of people "speaking in tongues" where in fact it was a language that they learned as a child, but being in the trance like state, they were able to fully remember.



So instead of looking at it like the brain is effected differently, perhaps it is an area or function of the brain that uses a more stable "remembrance" than a neuro pathway.



Interesting to think about that is for certain.

Though Autism, otherwise known as Pervasive Development Disorder, (PDD) has many levels to it. Yes, they perceive the world differently, yet they try to fit within it, for those who can try. It all depends on the severity of Autism you are referencing and how their thought and learning pattern functions.
